First of all, use the downtime to reload the spent cartridges from your revolver. Keep the casings. Flick on the lighter momentarily to help see the room's contents. Is there a window?

You try to reload your revolver in the dark, which takes a while. Eventually, you get there, and decide to keep the casings so that the police can't trace them back to you.

Flicking on the lighter for a few seconds reveals that you are in a storage closet. You see a broom, a bucket of water, a mop, and stain removing chemicals.

"No sign of anybody, man." The gangsters in the shotgun-wielding man's room fail to find anybody in the bathroom. "Other than that unconscious guy over there that got stabbed. One of the errand boys, too."

"Check behind the sofa. Look under the bed. Heck, check even the fridge. He's got to be in this room somewhere." The gangsters continue searching the room you were just in, giving you valuable time to slip away and plan your next move... Or keep waiting.

To the Front is the door that you just closed. Opening it would surely expose your hiding spot.

If there is low-light, no need for the lighter in the apartment hallway.

They did see it, but I somehow didn't add them reacting to that, which has now been fixed. They're also busy trying to find the protagonist.

You stay in the closet, trying to position the janitorial equipment so that it will conceal you if someone opens the door. It's not working particularly well, especially since you happen to be human-sized, not chihuahua-sized.

"Still nothing." A voice from the shotgun-man's room. "I'm gonna go check the first floor. You coming along with?"

"Nah. I'm gonna go check the other apartment room on this floor. Besides, the deadbeat living in the other room still hasn't paid Mad Tony his protection fee, and he could be hiding our little intruder."

"Alright. Anything happens, give me a yell."

One gangster goes down the stairs to the first floor, continuing his sweep of the building. The other gangster walks past the storage closet you're hiding in, and knocks on a door somewhere in the main hallway.

"Open up, holmes! You better not be hiding anybody in there, and you better have Tony's protection money, too!"

You hear a door opening, followed by the gangster's footsteps as he goes deeper into the room.

We can sneak to the second floor hallway and go into the Staircase to go to the third level room; and I think the gangsters are checking out the apartment room allowing us with our lighter to not crash into anything and go to staircase and hopefully go up? You peek outside the janitor's closet in the darkness, and see the light from a flashlight under the door of the other apartment room. Judging by the light, the other gangster is inside the room, and the door is closed.

We can sneak to the second floor hallway and go into the Staircase to go to the third level room; and I think the gangsters are checking out the apartment room allowing us with our lighter to not crash into anything and go to staircase and hopefully go up? If there is low-light, no need for the lighter in the apartment hallway.

You sneak your way to the third floor staircase in the darkness, keeping your lighter on to see in the pitch-black environment. As you make your way to the top of the third floor staircase and step into the main hallway, a voice suddenly calls out.

"Who's there? Is that you, Frank?"
