war dogs escape from pig tail ropes
« on: November 26, 2007, 12:02:00 pm »

Has anyone else seen war dogs almost immediately escape from pit tail ropes?

in fact, i've heard of the glitch/bug, if an animal sees it's original trainer, it'll break from chains ropes etc.

So will chains (iron?) solve this, or will dogs escape from any restraint when their owner walks by?

I have two war dogs in iron chains at my front gate, and they repeatedly escape. Once one of them actually escaped to chase a kobold thief, though this could be intended ("release the hounds!").

It's not intended.  This is a known bug where dogs break out of their chains to follow their trainer.  Something similar seems to happen occasionally with prisoners, although I'm not sure why.  My speculation is it's a squad member going to follow their squad captain, or a child going to follow their mother.

Yeah, iron chains don't hold my dogs either.

Hm, my rope reed ropes are doing fine at restraining the war dogs at the entrance to my fort. Do you think it could be a quality issue? My ropes are all +ropes+ and *ropes*.

Heh, I had a glassmaker sentenced to 120 days on a chain. It was made out of iron, Every time he wanted a drink, food or to sleep he would simply walk off like he wasn't chained, do whatever he wanted to do and then start hauling things like normal. Eventually the guardsman assigned to him would track him down and hook him back up. It took literally about 4 years for him to serve his sentence.

I might add, that the person who ordered him chained in the first place didn't even live to see the full thing carried out. The countess was tragically starved to death when making too many outlandish demands.

I hope this gets fixed soon. it's causing quite a traffic mess and my fort is less safe for it  :(

You can still stick any number of animals into a cage, if traffic is your concern.

I have been, it just takes a while since I started with 8 dogs and they've multiplied exponentially (my caging jobs just seem to take a while for some reason). Primarily though, I like war dogs to be around to intercept goblins and failed moods.
