I've done some mild modding on creatures, but I haven't tackled items yet.

I was wondering if anyone had made a "whiffle bat" sort of item that the game would recognize as a weapon, but would do no damage on impact. I want my new fortress to have a "danger room" with weapon traps for teaching my soldiers to block and dodge, but I'm tired of the danger room of wooden practice weapons accidentally killing my dogs.

If not, advice for how you'd go about making a puppy-safe weapon would be greatly appreciated! I figure there's no need to reinvent the wheel if I don't have to.

EDIT: I meant spike traps, not weapon traps.

I think you need spike traps for a danger room, so the easiest way is probably to make a trap component like a menacing spike, but without the menace.  You'll want blunt damage instead of sharp, a very low size to minimize momentum, and probably a high surface area for the attack.  This isn't tested, but I think it should be relatively safe.

If it still causes problems, try reducing SIZE even further or cutting down the 10 at the end of ATTACK:BLUNT etc.  The effect should be like getting gently tapped with a light sheet of plywood or something.

Thank you! I'll have to try it out. :) If all goes well, might install them in the daycare, too!
