The Exiled Demon
« on: September 10, 2018, 01:45:23 pm »

The Legions are mighty. The Legions are unstoppable. World after world has fallen to them, corrupted from within or assailed from without until all were dead or served the Legion. There was not a single force that could withstand them. It was glorious. You were one of the mightiest generals. Your dark magic consumed the souls of thousands at a time, your lethal blades and claws tore the life from hundreds at a stroke. Not even the ancient dragon-kings of Balas could slow you, nor the mentalists of the Endless Gyre make you hesitate. And even when you did not persoanally take part in the conquests, you were still the architect of much glory. You watched as Delicious horrors were unleashed upon helpless populaces and nations broke with despair as they witnessed the depredations of demonic armies. Other greatt conquerors were rewarded…Bephagor the Devouring. Krnlgn the All-Knowing. Nrgln the Widowmaker. But you, you were first and foremost. Even they feared your name. Even they only spoke of…this accursed magic! It robs you of all your power! With a struggle, you manage to recollect your name.

But the courts of the Legion are a deadly thing, made as they are of thousands of quarreling true demons. Some rival found a long forgotten secret of yours, and trumpeted it to the others. You were stripped of title, of power, and brought before the Mightiest of All to be sentenced. They saw an opportunity for further cruelty, and did not kill you. Instead, they tore away all but a sliver of your might. You managed to keep a little extra of your strength of...

though, and so you had that secret defiance to enjoy as you were dragged to the Font of Worlds and forced to pick a world, distant, and untouched, for now. You were not allowed to see the world, and you were instead forced to pick from a bag of stones. You drew a stone of…

This was a test, one you knew you were destined to fail. No demon on their own had ever conquered an entire world...but you would. You will triumph. One day, you will no longer be exiled...

Glossary

Demons: Demons are made of raw Evil, incredibly mighty and powerful. They can be summoned by certain magical rites, form spontaneously, or be created by other demons. However, only demons which form naturally can create lesser demons. A massive demonic alliance known as The Legion has conquered endless worlds, and you were once one of their generals.

People of the Scale: A confederation of many tribes, united by a common religion revolving around belief in a connection between dragons, ancestors, and the spirits of the world, and by economic ties with one tribe in particular, the Caz, who seem to control a collection of mines and forges, trading copper and gold for food and skins. They also supposedly have some extremely powerful magic.

Roll to Multitask, seeking new players.
Yeah sorry, someone blew up a street in my state and took the internet down for multiple days with it.
This really happened. 2020 was wild.

You are Beleth, the mightiest of the Legion. And you will bear that title once again, you silently vow, as head bowed with false humiliation, you thrust your hand into the bag and pull out a stone of bright emerald green. The Mightiest of All makes a single sharp gesture, and a spell of awe-inspiring power pulls you into the Font. As you fly towards the place you will be exiled to, you realize you have two opportunities: you can choose a new form and you can get a better sense of the world to pick a good place to land.

You feel the world as you fly towards it, unable to do anything but examine it as you are forced through the Font. The world is old and primeval. Great forests cover the northern half, endless grasslands the south. In some places the trees are so tall that ecosystems live in their branches, in others they are so dense that insects struggle to make their way between the trunks. Creatures of all shapes and sizes are everywhere. Even the burning deserts and frozen poles teem with life in incredible, beautiful variety. To you, this simply provides…oppurtunities. However, nature, though savage and cruel, is not truly evil. To gain power, a demon must feed on evil and suffering and worship, and they all work best when there are sapient life forms to torment and give praise.

This world has a few – men, elves, and various hybrid species mainly, although others are present as well, including what seems to be sapient animals. They have no cities, living mostly in travelling camps or simple villages. However, you sense something old and powerful, something very different, deep beneath the surface of this world, and there are ruins which practically glow with magic and strange energies.

An involuntary smile forces its way to your face. Yes, nature is not evil, but in the hunt, in the struggle for mates and food and shelter, in the snake’s venom and wasp’s sting, there is…potential.

in that case

Land in the grasslands in the south, nearby a nomadic tribe of humans
Take the shape of a large humanoid with the head of a bison.

Maybe there is not truly evil in nature... but if the sapients that live here think there is, does belief not speak as loudly as action?

Take the form of an oily-black, bear-like beast, the embodiment of the brutality and death that nature holds for the likes of men.
Arrive in dense, dark forests, nearby a moderately-sized encampment.

Glass is, as usual, correct.
Yep, as ever, I bestow upon Glass the expected +1
I'm gonna say we go with whatever Glass's idea is.
