I mean the warriors pretty much scream chest protectors. Any reason you made them mostly all female?
The same reason all dwarven and goblin sprites are male. Because

You send me your set a while ago, because of the TWBT options. Here an example I made for your levers.

the -bg file:

As you see, the areas that are supposed to be transparent, are also transparent on this file. It only has one color, white, and it's only used to tell the game where to apply background color. This is mostly used for contaminants, like blood or water on the item. In this case it's the entire lever, and none of the background.

the -top file:

The top file applies the color as-is ingame, and it can never change. No matter what. Never use a full sprite in a top-file for items, because if you mark them "forbidden" or "dumping" or any other status ingame that usually adds color to the sprite, it wouldn't... the sprite would never change.

In this case I added the green/red dots on the top of the levers, so that no matter what material the lever is made off, the green/red will always stay.

It's great for constructions though, to blend walls/floors of different color together more nicely.

I suggest using kilokittens. As cats are 10X the volume of kittens. That way, 50 cats would be .5 kilokittens.

100 cats would be 1 kilokitten.

UPDATE 1.4!

HUMANS!

Really outdid myself on this one, believe it or not, form making half a thousand sprites, you improve quite a bit. So in addition to the new human sprites, which are slick, I also went back to update some of the older dwarven sprites, mostly military.

gilded to me would be too gaudy for a military dwarf, a fortress guard absolutely. I lean towards a trim of some sort, helmet plumage, something like that.

I like these. Tilted shoulders give the humans a giantish quality, which they should have from a dwarven perspective. Good set.

@thetj: I agree with you. Right now, Master dwarves are in grey full plate with intricate, yet not gilded helmets. Though there is no way to assign any other sprites, the more elaborately decorated dwarves are reserved for future graphical implementations. But it is possible to pick and choose manually out of preference.

@xordae: What takes the longest time by far is the pose. Since it has to convey size while being limited to a 32x32 box. I could just do false divulging of my secrets by rabid generalisation and say it has to do with very high boots.

I really love everything about it, I'm extremely eager to see your set, using meph, while very good has inconsistencies like dead dwarves etc, and transparency problems that I can't seem to remedy on my own.
