No work we want to do here and we need time to heal, so we head out to visit the surrounding area.
First up that big Citadel city. They won't have any jobs for us (only Noble jobs there, and we're not famous enough for that yet). However, we may find some good recruits and it's a good idea to see what's available for when we have more money.
Armorer, Weaponsmith, and Training Hall. This place will be wonderful once we hit the midgame and have money to actually spend on this stuff.
There were also a ton of people for hire here, but they're all expensive folks like Milita troops or Sellswords and the like. No one we could afford and actually wanted.
There is a big village to the south-east that I think may have work for us, so we head off in that direction.
Another of those tutorial bits of advice. In this case, it's the exact reason why I'm not haggling too much on contracts just yet. We need to start making friends with some of these cities to help us get better prices and contracts.
Off to that mining village. Mining towns can be good places to get tools and other metal supplies. And miners, but they're actually kind of terrible as recruits since they have bad fatigue.
Oooh, a special spot on the map! We'll have to remember to come back here. These places often have good loot in them, and this one is just full of zombies. We're a bit too beat up and weak to fight them just yet, but it's worth doing early on.
There is also an Ambition we can do that needs us to clear out a place like that. If we haven't done this by the time that Ambition is unlocked, we should definitely do it then.
Oh, yeah, lairs and camps like that on the map often spawn wandering groups of monsters. In this case a single Nachzehrer, which are weird undead monster ape things. A single one is probably one of the more powerful types, and we definitely don't want to fight one of those right now. Plus, they often don't have any loot on them, and what's the point in fighting if you're not going to make money off it when you're a mercenary company?
First thing I do when we arrive is look for a promising recruit. And we find one, a Brawler! Brawlers are a bit expensive per day, but have good stats. They also have a bonus to damage with their fists, though the chances of us ever using that is really slim. Even with the bonus it's still bad compared to a weapon.
There are a few other good potentials in that list, such as the Butcher and the Messenger, but we don't have the money for more than one right now.
And that brawler was a good choice! Strong, which gives +10 fatigue, is a fantastic perk. And he's got good starting Resolve and three stars in it. Nothing else too special about him, but he can fit a role we'll need. That of Sergeant, which is both an Ambition we get later on and an in-game role that needs a perk to use but lets us rally our troops. So this guy will be our Corporal. Ideally we'll want to give him a polearm at some point, but for now he can be on the shield line. We'll just have to see if he lives long enough to rise in the ranks.
Time to get some work. This one should just be fighting some low level bandits, and is just to sort of job we need.
Oh, and here is the town we're in. Nothing amazing about it, but it's nice enough. They do have tools on the cheaper side, which is handy.
