Custom Civ Dying out

I wanted to make a race of Illuminati-lizardpeople for my world by modifying preexisting lizard raws. But I have encountered a problem where their civilizations die out very quickly during world gen. Can someone tell me how I can fix this?

Enemy post:
Try giving them pets similar to the ones elves get, those make a major difference in worldgen combat.
Also, they don't seem to be able to grasp things.

Are they intended to be literal quadrupedal lizards? If so, the best option is probably to switch out QUADRUPED_NECK in their bodyplan with the QUADRUPED_NECK_FRONT_GRASP version that gorillas use.
