Toady should write a basic walkthrough for Adventure Mode -- nothing too detailed, just a list of which towns have some good recruitable party members in them, the locations of a couple of decent early-game magic items and spell scrolls, and some easy quests so newbie players can get a couple of EXP levels under their belt before taking on anything too challenging. This, plus a pre-printed map showing where you start out & where to go from there, would be a big help to inexperienced players (because the learning curve of this game can be a little steep at first). You could sell these walkthroughs/guides at gaming stores, for like $10 each.

Minus charging for physical guides, that's pretty much something they've considered. It'd be pretty cool to have a pre-genned world that comes with the game.

okay... here's a terrible suggestion for you all: Night Witches in a Po-2
(inspired by this thread: http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=169659.0)

randomly have something describing (using in-world/in-timeperiod appropriate terms) the sounds of a loud automatic sewing machine (or lawn-mower engine) and then have explosions equal to 0.5-10 kg of ww2-era high explosives go off. somewhere on the surface.

Idea: Toady introduces a DF-themed cryptocurrency called DorfCoin.  In true dwarfy fashion, instead of digitally mining with computers, you have to literally mine it out of the ground, then refine it.  It's very secure, because its value is tied to its actual, physical form, making it impossible to steal via hacking.  Plus, it's shiny!  (It's gold.  Literally just gold, from the ground)

You could make your own DorfCoin protocol in-game with a Dorfputer. What Toady should do is allow players to build giant hydraulic aqueducts to allow transmission of information between distant sites. Transmission via minecart and giant axles should also be possible. Perhaps pneumatics too. Other sites should interact with these systems in a meaningful way.

Realistic unarmed combat: every punch or kick has a chance to injure the striking body part of the attacker, and hitting an armored opponent can end up breaking your own bones.

Alternatively, extremely unrealistic, anime-style unarmed.  Against a master of unarmed combat, metal armor is like paper, weapons are next to useless, and most opponents may as well be moving in slow motion.  A Grand Master with sufficient stats begins approaching One Punch Man levels of invincibility and raw power.

"Dwarven TrailsTM."

In Fortress mode after the embark screen, instead of immediately starting at your chosen site you play a medieval-themed clone of Oregon Trails, starring your starting seven.

How far you have to travel depends on how far your site is from the Mountainhome. How well you play determines what (and whom) you actually start with at the site.

I think I had a suggestion like this a few pages back.  Still a great awful idea, though!

Alternatively, the opposite: you don't get to play until a couple years after embark, by which time your dwarves have automatically determined fortress layout, diplomatic relations, and primary industries, among other things, heedless of your plans.

Why stop there? The entire game should run completely autonomously without any player input. This would also alleviate the need for a GUI, so the game should run quietly in the background while you read up on all the awesome things that may be happening in your invisible game on the wiki.

I'm pretty sure this is actually planned. It's not a bad idea at all.

Urine and feces! They decay into miasma!
Ah, the infamous long-standing canonical example of a thing that Toady will never add to the game. Of course, the thing that's changed since the last time Toady made his views on this known is that Oxygen Not Included has demonstrated that you're allowed to have toilets in base building sandbox games.

Well, ARK is a fairly mainstream game and features the player characters pooping and getting an XP bonus for using a toilet.
