You can only see areas that your citizens or pets can see. Areas they have seen appear as memories. You'll never know what beast has entered the map until it confronts your stranded dwarven infant.

That has actually been a very serious suggestion in the past. Basically creating a "fog of war" situation with lines of sight dictating what information the player/dwarves have about other creatures and items on the map.

You can see things that have been reported to the mayor whether true or not... And there's no way to tell the difference between reality and one or other of mistaken observations, deliberate lies, fabulations or just out-of-datedness.

This sounds interesting TBH. Granted, there should be ways that the player can gradually work out the true information from the false (perhaps with varying and/or customizable difficulty levels).

It should depend on how high the mayor's liar skill is, if it is legendary you will never be able to what's real and what's fake.
