"(6)(6)(6) The village has been looted, and the Norsemen have acquired a lot of spoils, in form of food, prisoners and valuables. They then loot peasants for their clothes, wash them and put them on. They decide that the best course of action would be infiltrating the nearby castle and surprise attack it once inside, and so they do. (Auto-4) The guards are immediately convinced of Vikings' disguise by noticing a smoke going into the sky at the village's location, and so they open the gates..."

+55 prisoners, +350 gold, +70 food. You're inside the castle, and you have 25 disguised housecarls and 30 heavy axemen with you.

Wait for an opportune moment. Of course, try to stay near our weapons so we can be ready to fight if our cover is blown early. As long as we let all the Italian speakers do the talking and avoid discovery, some advantageous situation will present itself. Perhaps the guards adopt defensive positions on the walls, anticipating a viking threat from outside, and turn their backs to us. Perhaps night falls, and most of the castle falls asleep. Perhaps a bunch of guards leave to go investigate the village, reducing their numbers.

((OOC: Sorry for the delayed post: my mom had a blood pressure problem, so I and the first aid had to care for her until 1 AM, when I was almost like a zombie.))

"(Coin flip: Tails - Defensive position without a scouting party towards the village) Your Italian-knowing troops speak with the garrison leader, and he says that the best course of action would be to establish defensive positions but without a scouting party, since 'the Norsemen have already attacked' them before, and he wants his garrison to be 'fully intact and ready for the assault'. He anticipates the Norsemen to attack during the night, since 'the archers will be not as accurate in the dark', quoth the garrison commander."

It's currently afternoon, and the night will fall in 3 turns. Would you like to wait till the night or commit subterfuge right now?

I say we use this time to scout around the town and figure out its weak points.

((Just to point out: it's not a town but a castle!))

"(2) You've tried to venture off to explore the castle for the weak spots, but you accidentally bump into a guard, who says that you 'should stay at the yard for now', and that that they'll be 'escorted to a safer place' during the night, when the Vikings will attack the castle."

It's day right now, 2 turns left till the night.

What if we attack now, catching them off guard?

What if we attack now, catching them off guard?

They're currently preparing themselves, so part of the melee troops are on the wall and part of them is moving onto the walls. The archers are already at their position, and since it's day right now, that'll mean no penalties for them to shoot at you.

So ultimately, I'd say you catch only a half of the (already stationed at the walls) Sardinians off-guard, while the other half will retaliate immediately.

Ah. What about building siege weapons like catapults and used them on the archers without sending out melee?

You're disguised as running-from-danger peasants, so building siege engines would be scrutiny-drawing at best. The bad kind of scrutiny.

Lets examine the areas of the castle that we're allowed to then, we should be looking for choke points, where they store the guards equipment, and anything else that'll be useful when we attack.
