Disappearing Statues Outside My Fortress ( .34 )

 Every once in a while I check the outside of the fort - some of my decorative statues are gone ! There are no announcements or combat logs indicating goblins or kobolds hanging around outside .

 I really don't think a thief can swipe them ... can they ? And if they can, why isn't my swarms of dwarves seeing them taking ( or destroying ) the statues right in front of the main doorway ?!

I'm going to do an experiment - all the heads of goblins & kobolds will now explode when spawned. I'll check my statues after a couple years to see if any are taken.
