Philosophical question: is it possible to re-rail an internet forum thread?

It's not the rails that are the problem, it's the whole construction, really; the track is basically an automated circle that can't stop even for a minute.

Look out.  Godwin's like the grandfather of Frankenstein.  Didn't ya know?
I breathe air, therefore I'm Mike Godwin. And Donald Trump. And Keanu Reeves. And Hitler. And Masahiro Sakurai.

Much less active than I used to be on these forums, but I still visit them on occasion. Will probably resume my activity in full once Dwarf Fortress will be released on Steam.

But there's a fork in the rails.  One path has four people tied down, the alternative has one person tied down.  You can pull the lever to divert the train to the one person track.

Did we not have another philosophy thread previously?

Did it not turn out about as well as this one?

In other news, my favorite classical philosopher is Epicurus. Not that I really know much about him, he just seems like a fairly chill dude, and that's something I can respect.

Classical cynics are cool too, but I don't work out much so I can't in good conscience consider myself one.

Pshhhh classical philosophers are all bitches. If they weren't alive after the rennaisance I don't give a FUCK

Fuck all of "the haters" John Milton is hands down the realest bitch to hath breathed on this Earth.

Pete singer can choke on my peepee bro, what I'm supposed to like him cos his moral philosophy acknowledges the nuances that John Milton's brand of utilitarianism tends to avoid? Haha yeah maybe I would if I was a fuckin baked piece of whole wheat bitch, but I'm a BIG BOY that likes his ethics COMICALLY SIMPLE.

In a futile attempt to rerail this: If you could recommend a single philosophical work, what would it be?

I recommend everyone reads Polybius' The Histories.

From what I've heard, Candide is actually banned in the US, so getting a physical copy might be difficult. It's in the public domain, though, so a digital copy is no further than Wikimedia.

As far as I know, books can't be banned-banned in the US thanks to, uh, you know, that one amendment. "Banned books" around here are books that schools and public libraries refuse to stock, but private bookstores can have whatever. Which of course leads to the wonderful situation of the local bookstore having a big old shelf labeled "banned books". :D

Down at the bottom of the ocean. Beneath tons of brine which would crush you down. Not into broken and splintered flesh, but into thin soup. Into just more of the sea water. Where things live that aren't so different from you, but you will never live to touch them and they will never live to touch you.
