Always fun to share your knowledge and experience with others.  I wouldn't get too invested in it, though.  DF is a personal project and more of an art project than anything else.  Toady and Three toe are building something that is a labour of love for them. They are going to make personal choices and sometimes (maybe many times) that will clash with what many would consider the "best way to do it".  It's hard because as players of the game, we love it too and we want to contribute.  However, there is a limit to the amount that we can contribute because it is neither our project, nor is it a community project.  It's doubly tricky if you are an HCI person who isn't also a programmer since you are pretty seriously limited with respect to starting your own projects.  Unfortunately that's the way things tend to work out...  The whole reason for doing your own thing is so that you don't have to listen to other people telling you how to do it ;-)
