Prisoners attacking their haulers
« on: March 18, 2019, 09:27:17 am »

I'm having a (somewhat large) number of cages from cage traps loaded with trolls, beak dogs and of course goblins. I had them transported to a stockpile without issues, but when I try to assign their "contents" to a built cage, I sometimes get a message saying

UristMcHauler cancels Cage StrangeName, Troll: interrupted by a troll.

The interrupting troll is the prisoner himself, and of course things get messy, afterwards.

What's going on here and how can I avoid it?

There is some risk prisoners break free, and then a mess ensues. Having militia stationed might reduce the damage, and stripping the prisoners of weapons and armor before the transfer reduce their ability to cause harm.
This issue is especially bad with mass pitting, as it seems subsequent prisoners ordered to be pitted break free as well, even if the previous ones have all been put down before the hauling starts. Note that this is an issue even if cages are immediately adjacent to the pits, so the hauling distance is a single tile.

There is also an issue with military types attacking hauled prisoner, in particular merchant/diplomat guards.
