Altha froze in midstep and turned around, seeing the apparition behind her. Goosebumps rose on her skin as she beheld the malevolence emanating from its ethereal form.
She took a step backwards and did her best to remain calm. Like most students of the studies of the ancient magicks she had encountered the undead and other such specters on digs before, but few had felt as menacing as this.
Altha quietly inhaled and attempted a trick she had learned from one of her teachers back in those days. She extended her own magical aura and attempted to probe out gingerly, pushing thaumatic ties into it that would feed back to her own senses while simultaneously erecting some mental filters to prevent whatever backlash might come from extending to such a being. She had heard this was originally developed for use by tacticians, and in theory this should have been able to abstractly give her some sense of what she was dealing with. Its nature, its level of strength, that sort of thing.
But instead all she received was chaotic forces enveloping her. A howling wail of indescribable malice. The best one could put it to words was something like a “H̸̗̰̹͕̯u͔̦̙̤͟u̙̗u̥̮͔͙̜͎͢uu̡u̥̖͞u̴̩u̝e̵̫̞̲ee̗̪̺̙̘͚̗” noise.
”...oh shit.”Tucking her tomes under her arms, Altha ran as fast as she could to catch up to the others, only for her slight frame to slam into a wall of metal.
Quickly recovering from having ran into Siegfried, she peered around him but could see no sign of rhe Captain. She could hear the thugs shouting from around the corner, so he must be up ahead. Once again she mentally cursed at the situation.
However this man in front of her... he was the one who had come up with that strategy earlier... and the one whom multiple times the Captain had deferred to in leading the way. Yes if anyone would know what to do it had to be this one.
Frantically she reached up and began knocking on the back of his armor, just below his neck in an attempt to get his attention without making too much noise.
Realizing that with the thickness of his armor this might be counterproductive, she instead ducked and did her best to squeeze past him in the corridor and stand in front of him, waving to get his attention.
