Terra speaks, the Empire listens. it has been thus for more generations than you care to count. But was is the exact situation of Terra?

A. Client State You are formally independent, but under the protection of the Empire. You provide troops for the Empire, but these troops are formally under Terran Control. The ties that bind are fragile

B. Vassal You are a subject of the Empire, part of it as are its many other citizen races. Over the aeons you have earned your citizenship twice over. You are the beating heart of the Imperial Military.

C. Dominion You have not stayed entirely free of foreign Immigration and Colonization and while the hand of the Your Masters is light it is still noticeable.

D. Janissary Earth is formally independent and under quarantine. Each year a tithe is taken from this backwater planet to satisfy the military needs of the Empire. You are born of Earth but you know nothing of it beyond what your masters wished to instill in you. Slave Soldiers through and through. You were born for war and know nothing else

E. Varangian Originally a diplomatic gift to allow Earths continued existence as an independent (if closely monitored) entity, 1 Division of the best we had to offer was sent to the Empire. First used as fodder, then shock troops and ultimately as the Emperors Personal Guard, The Emperors Terran Legion grew considerably over the centuries. It is now the Emperors Personal Army next to the actual Imperial Army.

Soft Sci Fi. I'm not that good with focusing on the tech.

...raised during the First Great Expansion, the Terran Legion was originally meant as a political gift to ensure the continued survival of the human species and their homeworld. Back then of course, neither the Humans nor the Tervenn knew what it would eventually become.

I will spare the esteemed reader the nitty gritty details of the Terran Legions rise to notoriety however and concentrate on their image within the Empire at large, among the Nobility of the Tervenn and of course among Emperors and the Populace of Golm 387 known as The Shining Mother amongst the Tervenn and dubbed Miklagaard in some historical reference by Terran Legion Commanders. I note here that the original idea of the Emperors Terran Legion (after their initial misadventures as Meatshields and Shock Troops) was to serve as an apolitical force within the Imperial Capital, to ensure a loyal corp of troops and guards for the Emperor. This would indeed be later subverted repeatedly by the Legion itself as on occasion it did in fact play kingmaker. While Tervenn records of the time gloss over the fact, my own research thanks in large part to records by the Legion and most fortiuitous eye-witness statements by a Lere-Gah who i managed to track down proves indubitably that the Period of the Hundred Emperors was characterized by large influence increases of the Terran Legion and that Emperors were helplessly ineffective without the tacit support of Guard Commander Visconti and later Rokossovsky. It is indeed telling that during that time two men served a hundred emperors.

The sheer audacity and impunity with which the Terran Legion could act is characterized best not only in the fact that the Tervenn have to import vast quantities of the horrendous chemical nerve agent known as alcohol but also in the at times outrageous amounts of property damage done to the Capital City by Legion Soldiers each year, which are simply ignored and the soldiers at best, lightly disciplined.

On the followi-

"Influence of the Emperors Terran Legion on the Tervenn Empire" by Och'Zehn 3rd Level Historian of the Gah Archivists

These days the Terran Legion is indeed an army with a subsector. Vast swathes of humanities industries are all concentrated on outfitting, training, equipping and maintaining the Emperors Terran Legion. All of that paid by the sheer endless coffers of the Tervenn Empire. The requirement to always send the best of the best, of course caused an interesting shift in our politics at home. Returning veterans were generally fabulously wealthy and in time with the connections they made during their services, influential as well.
The situation being what it was, it ultimately reached the logical conclusion. A warrior elite rose in due time, gene and cybernetic modification further differentiating them from baseline humans. That is not to say that we saw the rise of some kind of feudal society but rather the rise of dedicated families, dynasties of soldiers. If your parents had been Legionnaires you simply were already born with parts of the required gene modifications and even had a lower chance of rejection, you had the resources and the money to recieve the best of schooling and training. Ultimately it was a done matter in the free market. Those who returned from service could simply afford to ensure that their children would serve as well (or at least have high chances).
But those at home lived in similiar unprecedented prosperity thanks to the vast Funds poured into the Terran Legion.

It is in those times you grew up. But who were you born to? ((i promise this the last char creation panel ^^))

[] Legacy of War - You come from a long line of legionnaires. Your family is wealthy and influential and due to your heritage you can not only afford but also survive genetic augmentation beyond baseline human levels
[] Lord of War - you come from the great industrial magnate families which supply the endless need for arms and armor. You are wealthy, but your body is unused to the severe genetic augmentation
[] Child of War - you come from a family of Rankers, that is, your family was among the masses of the Terran Legion, first generation legionnaires themselves and not raised from ancient soldier stock.
[] Dog of War - you are a first generation legonnaire, no one in your family served before and it is a rare thing and indeed a great honour for your family. It also means that you had to make your way to the top from the very bottom. your towering intellect, your skill and your grit is what kept you alive and successful. You, hwoever lack wealth, connections and even some formal education that is par course for other officers. Genetic augmentation doesn't take as well with you as with those who are used to it and since you rose through the ranks, you are distinctively older than people of similiar rank.

While you probably had a distinct military education, where did you truly excel?

[]Tactics
[]The Frontline
[]Politics
