(IC) Tin Age: Hard Landing (They Can Be Beaten)

Theme Song
The sound of the plane's engines reverbated even inside of your mech's cramped cockpit as you all sat tightly and snugly, waiting for the inevitable. This was all her idea of course, an airdrop over a mountain was certainly an unconventional way to deploy your squad to it's first mission, but it was certainly a very picturesque way, to die that is, if you wanted to be a pessimist about this.

But you're not worried, you're the STARGAZERS after all, you signed up for this shit, they didn't have to spell this out for you but you know what you were signing up for, why else would they promise honor, glory, excitement, danger, and FREE CITIZENSHIP WI-oh wait, wrong setting. Right, all of the lights are turning green, the clumsy packs they've given everyone are all ready and fueled up, the bay doors are starting to open,  you can already hear the harpies cries as they spot the gleaming mass of your 'soon to be decommisioned anyway' carrier, and now with just a quick burst forward you're.

Alright you can see the ugly ass things now as you're tumbling through the sky, you know how in old ass movies and cartoons and such they always depict harpies as these nubile young women with bird feet and feathered wings? Well uh these harpies are...they look like a hawk or an eagle that had tried to swallow a woman whole, and uh, failed in a very messy way once they got up to the head.

They seem really angry too, charged straight into the plane you were on, sent it plummeting straight down in a fiery mess too, good thing that there's only four of them right? I mean sure, you've still got a short way to fall before you make it semi safely down to the ground, but at least the rest of the nest isn't here, Yet.

Freddie tried his best not to panic. His Ultra-Shocks would help him and his vehicle survive... right?

And his colleagues could shoot down the harpies, right?

And they wouldn't tear him to pieces with their disturbingly human-like teeth, right?

Freddie shook his head, unable to free it of the thoughts of what could happen if he got killed here. The best he could do was focus on getting the footage, getting the records... Letting the people know what it was that lay outside the walls... And show that they can be beaten.

Hitting a switch on his controls, he began recording, focusing his main camera (and by extension his machinegun) onto the nearest harpy before he landed.

Solomon surveys the screeching harpies; damn, these things are ugly. He aims his winch harpoon at the nearest one and fires, in an attempt to drag...her(?) down to the ground with him.

"Alright. Time to have a little fun"

Medea angled herself to look back up at the harpies. Man they were ugly, and not even in a cool way. She would much rather have fought the cute girl kind of harpy. Give them like, sword wings or something. An ariel swordfight between a mech and a sword winged bird woman sounded AEWSOME

Ideas for later. She would have to write that down.

First and foremost, they should eliminate the enemies as quickly as possible. The faster you take one down, the less you have to fight at once.

She brought her laser out of her arm and took aim up at one of the hideous fliers, and fired sending a scorching beam up at one of its eyes, then immediately proceeded to taunt it.
"Hey ugly! Come get me!"

Once she had a hold of it. Oh boy was she going to mess that thing up.

Toby didn't feel an ounce of fear! None at all! Falling has always been proven to be VERY safe!..
Okay, maybe Toby did have a little morsel of fear growing inside his stomach.. perhaps.. a full cage of butterflies ready to burst out his very mouth in a form of a scream. However, Toby had signed up for this and what point is there to show fear while faced with... with.. what the flying guzzling chriping fuck are these things.
These aren't like the ones in the comics and movies he'd seen! What a rip off!

All Toby can do is try to at least maneuver somewhere.. some place where he can hide away and get some distance. Thats what's he's good at. Till then, he'll get his autocannon ready too shoot at these.. these... literal chicks?

The seven of you didn't have much time to spend before the thrusters would automatically activate, and slow down your fall enough to stop you from splattering on the ground and end up as a multi million dollar and possibly nuclear pancake, but Medea and Solomon obviously decided to make the most of their time while they still had it, as they maneuvered their mechas to try and make the iron hot by striking, so to speak.

The Atheon's laser swiftly pops out of it's left arm, briefly emitting an obviously recorded discordant hum as it charged up before it let out an uncannily accurate concentrated beam of blood red light towards the nearest harpy, piercing straight through the very top of it's shoulders with a glancing hit.

A spray of ichor briefly ejaculated from the wounded harpy's right shoulder as it banks around in the air to face its aggressor, letting out a blood curdling shriek in response to her taunting, and getting her sister's attention as she rushed towards the Atheon with claws outstretched at breakneck speeds, a monstrous bird of prey ready to tear into its next catch....until the Thunder Beetle's winch harpoon soared straight past it's wings, causing it to reflexively bank out of the way, hugging its wings close to its body, as the beetle retracted its harpoon for another go.

The thrusters activated before the rest of the harpies could reach the party, causing all of them to suddenly jolt up to the sky and throw off their aim, sending quite a few reflexively flapping their wings in an effort to not plummet straight into the hard and rocky ground. The shock of impact jars the seven of you a bit as you finally crash down to the ground with an unsatisfying thump, and as you discard your now useless thrusters you notice that the harpies are already in the process of circling around you in the air, your antics having apparently pissed them off enough to awaken another three to see you off.

all of you, apparently

Randall raises his mech shield, waiting for the enemy to attack first. When one of the monsters decide to change, block the attack with the shield and poke from behind with the spear, aiming for the wings to reduce their mobility.

Solomon looks at his companions, "You guys can start taking these things down anytime now!"

Fire another harpoon at one of these bird brains. If it connects, or at least wraps around one, zap 'em. If one of them get into melee range, zap 'em as well!

After the landing, Freddie tried to aim his camera at one of the birds and fired the turret at it. If the former failed, he wouldn't be able to gather the footage he needed. If the latter failed, he was essentially defenseless.

Hopefully he'd connected all the right wires...

Keep distance from the harpies while firing the machine gun at the closest one.

"This is what you were built for, old girl," Karl pats the side of the bridge of the aging PT boat with warm affection, spinning the wheel to bring the craft about, pointing its bow in the general direction of the densest cluster of harpies.  "Can I lock onto them...?  Eh, target locks are overrated.  FIRING ALL WEAPONS!"  With a chattering roar, the quadruple Bofors mounted on the bow of Pt-48 opens up on the harpies, tracer shells stabbing out as if eager to fulfill their intended purpose for the first time since World War II.  A brace of Exocet missiles cough to life on the roof-mounted rack, hurling themselves more or less skyward towards the harpy flock.

This is not the sort of target they were ever intended to engage.

Arthur begins moving so as not to remain a stationary target, and searches for something that he can throw at the harpies using his mech's tail
