Drowned merchants

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I have multiple walkways to my fort, but some merchants prefer to swim and they tend to drown themselves in the pool.
Is this a bug or do they have some reason to path through the water?

Better question is how can we reproduce this behavior and teach our dwarves to swim safely?  WHAT DID YOU DO, MAAAN??!

Your pathways are all 1-wide? Is the water 7/7 everywhere?

Is water flowing over the walkways and pushing them into the water?  The screen shot is too small to make out any real details.

I would suspect that there are tiles of 1/7 or 2/7 water that they're walking in, then getting pushed by flowing water into deeper water and drowning, but I'm pretty sure they won't choose tiles like that to path on if there is an open path on dry land.

It's a known bug.
