Yliss looked at the people and their discussions for a while now. She doesn't feel like she could meaningfully contribute to anything, and just stood there, lightly walking around here and there.
After a while, she decides to simply sneak off silently, taking a Master Seal from the convoy - specifically the one she put a hair strand around because she got it from Milly - along the way. She feels like it was time to improve herself that way too. In her own eyes, she earned it given all the fights she endured and the accompanying highs and lows.
Yliss wants to finally show Rio that she was perfectly capable in her own right, and no longer accepts being second fiddle compared to her in battlefield contributions.
Then she readies the Seal and... hesitates.
She reflects on her time on Earth, when she was still Satoru Nakamura. An immense pressure put on her past self by her parents, basically being treated like teenage and young adult Hikkikomoris get treated by their parents for the sin of bringing home average grades. Few she could call true friends during most of her time. She spent a lot of the time hanging around on Futaba Channel, various hobbyist boards and overall being both a chatty person and someone doing really rough stuff when she feels like that person deserved it. A few got doxxed that way, most got trolled and mocked into oblivion.
But there was also a different side of Satoru, a side of wanting to prove himself. She remembered having done many things that piqued her interest, like game-making, painting, crafting models, writing fan fics and short novels, drawing mangas, but also cooking, baking, having been part of a fishing crew once, half a year of barista work, and last but not least, apprenticeship at a local sushi chef.
She did many things, and she always noted how she got the hang of it easily, almost effortlessly. In the circles where she published her works, she usually got praise and recognition, and both the fishing and barista work got admired by co-staff because she got good at a frighteningly fast pace. But with how fast she managed to create notable works, she also grew bored of it at an equally-fast pace. That included the apprenticeship, but she decided to stick with it because the only alternative would be a corporate slave, and that would be a worse fate than becoming a wakiita and eventually even an itamae.
Then the "isekai-ing" happened and after getting used to her new physical form, she kept afloat with oddjobs and eventually got the attention of a master swordsman who trained her. But her getting easily bored eventually caught up with her, and she disappeared alongside the master's katana and one of his scrolls. Except the katana couldn't be unsheated by her for some reason and the scroll still didn't make much sense to her to this day. She still travels around with both in her backpack, in hopes she might, one day, find out the secret behind both. That or at least giving it back to the master and apologizing for it if they ever meet again, the second-best option.
A situation that grows more and more likely the closer she moves towards Kaisei.
Yliss looks at the Master Seal once more. She did everything in her past to escape the burden others have put on her, to escape being in the shadow of their judgment calls. Now, she still wants to escape being in the shadow of Asuna, by upstaging her as a master of the blade.
But she is tired of struggling to gain a reason to exist after all these years. After all these years, after all these struggles, Yliss considered a new option for the first time in her life both on Earth and on Generia.
She decides to finally become her own person, instead of surpassing someone else.
The Master Seal has been put on with that conviction in mind.
