The Horse is Too Powerful; What Do?
« on: June 08, 2019, 02:13:36 am »

My Python-man Necromancer, Nofflam, has taken upon himself the deed of slaying an undead horse. The problem is; it just wont die.

This abomination was risen to be my first undead servant, and has followed me around everywhere I went. I quickly realized its hostility to all things living, as it has tried to kick every animal, beast, and person we came across to death with its broken legs. It even fucked up a Sasquatch which had to misfortune to try and ambush us in the woods. I've decided that if I'm going to get any more holy deeds done, this damned soulless killing machine needs to be out of the picture for the time being. None of my attacks have succeeded at beheading the steed, bashing its skull in doesn't produce the desired results, and now it's pissed! What do?

Try luring it to a volcano and push it in. Alternatively, have you tried training lashing? You may be able to jam the skull through the brain with a whip and split the head, which will put it down for good.

Necromancer skills don't increase or rust, so lashing out of the question. I'll definitely try that volcano one, though, if it'll follow me there.

Necromancer attributes do not increase or rust. You can still increase your skills. I have a necromancer axeman who has gained two levels in axes since he became undead.

Ah, thanks for letting me know. So far, the horse has been softened. Not dead, softened. On the way to the volcano, we stopped by a hillocks and it got the shit beat out of it by townspeople. They died or escaped its wrath, but certainly did a number on the beast. The journey continues.

It's like Frodo taking the ring to the Cracks of Doom.

Must have involved giant eagles. Can't get anything done without them.

Guys, be very very careful next time you play DF. Obviously the horse became so powerful it broke into our world and killed the OP.

Before dealing with stronger opponents make sure first your wrestling skill is legendary. Get a shield.

Get their attention, then hide behind a tree or a corner out of their line of sight. If you can sneak on them even better, as first strike can be very heavy strike. Avoid charges by dodging back and to side. Use "." to wait them to get close (it also gives you some rest). At first use always fast strikes, so your hits land on them. Try hitting them in head and body parts of head, but if no good targets are shown, hit them at the legs to slow them down. Don't sneeze at using scratching. Scratching causes bleeding and damages protective clothing, which eventually will fall off opening unprotected spot to place a successful hit with a weapon. Successful scoring a hit to a head with an ax can resolve conflict immediately with a head rolling off, which is my favorite method when dealing with endless hordes of trolls.
