This is our backstory we're talking about, so... the clearing'll probably get us a fey wild-mage of the woods, and the hallway'll get us a nitty-gritty bureaucratic government agency situation. (You know, assuming my wild guesses are in any way valid.)

I have no particular preference between the two. Both sound entertaining. Have at thee.

Glass is, as usual, correct.
Yep, as ever, I bestow upon Glass the expected +1
I'm gonna say we go with whatever Glass's idea is.

1) Clearing in a forest.

You're in a clearing. A flat, wide stretch in the greenest woods you've ever seen. The only things you can make out are a narrow path some yards in front of you; and a tall tower, made of ivory brick that seems to be impossibly spotless, even from this distance.

If you walk the forest path, you might eventually find a kingdom or civilization and someone there can help. Or they might kidnap you out of fear you'd be a spy. So perhaps the tower would be a better choice. Less people to cause a fuss. However, what kind of lunatic lives in a tower in the middle of nowhere anyway?

1) Walk the forest path. You're bound to find civilization eventually. Hopefully.
2) Head toward the tower. They might know a thing or two about where you are. IF they're home.

2. A wizard is the kind of lunatic that lives in a tower.

2) Head toward the tower. They might know a thing or two about where you are. IF they're home.

The tower seems to be a safer bet. Didn't you hear something about wizards living in towers in the book? Sadly, when you botched the spell you dropped the book. You're pretty sure it's back home in your bedroom. Oh well. At least it's safe. You think.

You decide to head to the tower, and by the time you reach it you'd wager an hour had passed (the sky was slightly darker than when you first arrived). The tower itself, aside from the impossibly-white brick, is pretty standard fare as far as wizard towers go. Tall and narrow, with only a blue and gold flag as its ornamentation. You notice light shooting through the wooden door's window, making the evening sky look even darker.

Nothing ventured; nothing gained. You stride up the stairs and rap on the door three times.

The door makes an ancient squeak as it slowly opens to reveal . . .

A child?

"Hello", he says before he eyes you up and down suspiciously. Then he notices your wand and you swear you catch a moment of surprise appear on his face before he snatches you inside and shuts the door. "You. You're a wizard? From which State do you hail? From what Tower?" His almost-squeaky toddlerish voice forces you to suppress a giggle as you prepare to respond.

1) Sputter like an idiot and demand to know who he is first. You don't have to answer to children.
2) Give the young wizard your name. You're a guest in his house after all.
3) Ignore his question and ask where you are.
4) Invent a lie about which 'state' you're from and which 'Tower' you claim.
