Spoiler: Tower Status (click to show/hide)

We've found a collection of notes and documents inside a locked vault in our Fortress-City. These notes amount to two Experimental Development Tokens, one of which can be spent to reduce the difficulty of developing completely new technology.

Thought A: advanced chemistry, working with the chemicals of the Ichor Sea.

Thought B: understanding the floating discs.

Design philosophy: understand and make our own archaeotech, tame the ichor sea.

I'd rather we break new fields of science then teeter with old toys.

ElectroStatic Lifter

Simply put, this device utilizes an electrostatic discharge that is present in the tower's air, between its islands, and definitely present near the city.

This Lifter pushes itself off the ground and into the air by rapidly spinning and then catching that charge, while it rotates. In order for the Lifter to catch this electricity, it needs a yellow-hot "Rod" of iron, as this discharge is attached to of all things, heated metal. A thermal exchanger attached to a boiler heats up this massive bar of metal and thus, gets the machine afloat.

Physically, it looks like a Crowsnest of a ship, with an iron bar that holds up a spindly cage that burns hot, while its crew toil and carry things all underneath a cloth tarp to protect from the sun.

Armor could be attached  by bolting it on  the sides and bottom.

I am down to research the chemical applications to weapons and mining from the chemical sea.

Design: Operation Fire and Wine.

The chemical sea and the areas around it are likely rich in caustic and useful chemicals for a variety of applications. By researching the various applications of these chemicals, we will come to understand how we can best use our environment to our advantage, both in the production and acquirement of resources, but also in direct combat when the time comes.

This will be done by sending operatives down close to the Ichor to collect data. They will fist begin with a series of observations and scans to determine what they can of the Ichor, it's composition and potential derivitives. Next they will engage in a field study. During which they will use lines of wire or rope to dip things briefly in the Ichor and observe it's effects in order to collect more data on it's composition and effects. Lastly, others will search for crevices where small amounts of the Ichor have been caught in the Blackstone, which can be studied in closer detail and on a smaller scale.

The ultimate aim is to understand better the chemical composition of the Ichor sea,  as well as gain insight into the containment of it, production and uses of derivitives and associated chemicals.

Ooh, interesting design, Blood. Do you have potential ideas for Magitech perhaps?

Roboson, could you maybe add a note to study contaiment as well? We need to know how to contain the ichor somehow. I recommend a force field.

Arcane Technology:

Our greatest scientists have been looking at the notes of the vault. Some of them were initially dismissed as the ravings of a madman, but as we begin our ascent through the tower, they’ve been looked at again. Every advantage is needed, after all; if it could lead to some small advance, why should we not commit the resources to learn? So our scientists look through the notes. Some tell of things that are in fact what we think they are, basic physics and such… others, not so much. At the direction of their bosses they decided to experiment with the nonsensical ideas anyway. One was something about spirits, which after seeing the formula the scientists naturally took to mean a form of intoxicating beverage. They proceeded to take the "recipe" and make a brew - and quickly learned that it wasn't exactly the kind of spirits they thought.

The physical world is not the only one. There is a second one, not in another location, but the same… just sort of, beside our own. The scientists took their drinks, and after savoring the shockingly good taste, could suddenly see wondrous things in the spires of the fortress city, things nobody else could. If it had been one, we could suspect that someone went mad from the experiment. But all of them reported the same. Pursuing the notes further, now with a serious eye, our scientists have learned how to change this from simple knowledge for the sake of knowledge into practical gain.

The other world is described by the notes as a world of spirits. There are human spirits, but just as if not more common are natural spirits, spirits who embody concepts and elements - we’ve seen spirits of joy and anger, of water and light, and more. All very interesting, but how can we use it? Well, we’ve also discovered, in the notes, a means of drawing in and containing spirits who can provide wondrous properties to whatever tech we happen to put them in. Using artificial crystals that attract spirits, the type dependent on the formation of the crystal, we can use their powers in our technology.

---

Before we can begin to use these astounding finds for our equipment, we must first make the crystals. The few we painstakingly crafted for testing will not last long as we build up to war. Thus, our first step is not to make gear, but to create an industrial scale process for creating them. We've dubbed them spirit crystals, which if a tad unimaginative is at least descriptive. We've sectioned off an area for the production facility, contracting dozens of our citizens to swell the ranks of the "arcanists" who specialize in dealing with the spirit world. The laboratories are filled with machines taking the various chemical and metallic ingredients, and forcing them into crystalline form. The arcanists then proceed to inscribe the proper runes on them, and then trap the spirits inside. Then, they go and do it again, and again, producing the crystals to fuel our creations at an industrial speed.

Arcane Technology:

(Normal) 2 + 1 = 3

We of Enabria were ecstatic to find a method of brewing an extraordinary liquor in our cache of documents. Support was had for the idea of working from that recipe... then it all went wrong.

Or right, depending on how you feel about it.

The morning after the party, everyone assigned to test the Spirit Spirits found that they had lost their entire memory of the previous night. Records of the night show that they got incredibly drunk much faster than expected, and proceeded to... [section of the report smudged by a stain and unreadable]

But. All is not lost! Eyewitnesses of the event report that everyone who had partaken of this wondrous beverage seemed to be experiencing great and tremendous hallucinations, shouting and laughing at things nobody else could see. If only they remembered what exactly they saw. And most incredibly of all, their eyes reportedly glowed a bright blue! Most incredibly of all, nobody involved in that event got a hangover. The miraculous beverage may have caused hallucinations and memory loss along with extreme drunkenness, but no hangovers! Truly, this is a great and glorious day.

Revision: Spiritual Ethanol

The exact process of which we made the spirit booze is far from perfect, being far too strong in some flavors, which overshadow others. After conversing with the Brewers Guild, we revise the formula to concentrate and separate the alcohol from the other ingredients. This produces a highly potent ethanol, that is filtered off and collected, and leaves a concentrated crystal which amplifies spiritual effects. This crystal is hard and very blue. Small ones could be worn to induce the same effects, while larger ones effect the area and people around them.
