You very much should be worried... or just deny him? If he has no other reason to stick around, he'll leave immediately if his petition is refused.

What you have here is a golden oppurtunity: a known vampire!

Accept the offer. Then messily kill the vampire in a small water reservoir, and use the resulting blood-water to produce a line of immortal vampiric super-soldiers. I suggest using other petitioned residents for this-- humans and elves will take to the vampirism much more easily than dwarves, because of their lack of alcoholism.

Vampire fort. What could possibly go wrong? :D

Hire him.  Art always demands a blood price.  Assign him to the "special" tavern in the catacombs where the dwarves keep their best wine.

Then wall him in and rename the location to "The Screaming Vampire."

I often fall right over when worried. In fact, when I am uncertain as to whether or not something concerns me, I often grade the distance and speed at which I toppled for use as as a metric.

Anyway, he's gonna eat yer dorfs. Kill 'im or lock 'im up.

With Bone Daddy "improving" your beds? Yeah, I'd be worried too.

Also worrisome is that there appears to be no more plants or fruit left to brew.

I would feel worried if this were my fort.  Eventually though, through repeated exposure, I hear that such worried feeling will turn to a !!Fun!! feeling instead.  The fall of a fortress tends to always make a great story to share with friends.

Hmmm, you are all missing the point, I feel that the astronomer is more dangerous, definitely don't grant such a learned menace residency or you will regret it.
