Welcome, Initharite Engineer, to Harren Island.
Core Thread

Your people have landed in an area you've dubbed "The Rimefields", notable for it's extreme cold, frozen waterways, and deadly frost. Your people have pushed their way south, combating the environment every step of the way. While your people attempt to understand and utilize the unique materials available to the island, your efforts are frequently stymied by a mysterious group known only as The Pact. Their headquarters is a centrally located island housing a massive Fortress-City. Past them, in the burning lands of the south, lies another group representing a nation of the Old World: The Embral. You must do what you can to ensure that they can't bring the knowledge they gain here back to The Old World and threaten Initharite supremacy.

It is presently the Design Phase. As mentioned in the Core Thread, you will be posed a scenario to be answered with an appropriate design. The prompt is as follows:

The Old World wasn't always a mess of nation-states clawing and tearing at one another. Early on most were nomadic tribes of hunter-gatherers. Your people lived off the land, migrating as needed to ensure they could be fed and watered. Stone tools helped push your people forward, granting them opportunities they otherwise would have never had. Indeed, this is the first time your people stand out above the rest. Propose an item that could be constructed during this period and utilized by your tribe in some way. This choice, as with those that come in the following turns, will paint your nation's past as well as influence their opening armory.

You are also to create the unique resource that makes your nation special by the end of the fifth preliminary turn.

Any questions can be posed here or in Discord (linked in the core thread). As we go further and options open up I'll explain some of the finer rules in-depth, but for now that's it!

Qajaq
The slow, methodical sound of a stone scraping away shavings of wood, sloping and bending a carefully rock-sanded plank into shape along the forming body of the kayak, was music to Nanuk's ears. He had spent days on this craft, forming its skeleton and now creating its body, and he expected to spend a couple of days more, but every minute that he spent was worth it: the man took pride in his work. Of course he did -- creating kayaks for the tribe was a very special position, and one that Nanuk had learned only through decades of careful practice under his father's watchful gaze. A mediocre kayak (or, as the people of the tribe called them, qajaqs) could still be used, but a mediocre kayak was not acceptable. Instead, with every individual piece of wood carefully split with a stone axe, and then carved and sanded into shape through various other, specially chosen rocks, a proper qajaq could dance through the water, carving the seas with its narrow bow as its rower turned and sped towards what he was hunting. That was what Nanuk wanted to create, something to be proud of.

The qajaq (finely crafted through days of effort, making them something individually treasured by each community of the tribe, but making each one a masterpiece) is a one-man boat, extremely narrow with sharp ends, the body smoothly curving in order to ensure a streamlined shape that allows the vessel to move extremely quickly in the water when a capable paddler is in its seat. That seat is only a small area, most of the qajaq's top closed and part of the body of the craft, with sealskin sealing the rest of the area between the kayaker and the craft itself. What this means is that capacity is a little limited (though successfully hunted prey can be stored inside the kayak, where the design will keep it safe) and it's a one-man vessel, but the qajaq can pull off unparalleled maneuverability without risking filling the boat with water or throwing its occupant. It comes with a two-ended paddle used by the kayaker.

OK TAKE TWO DAMN ENABRIANS TAKING MY FUCKING INUIT LORE

Voyaging Canoe
The sounds of the sea and the flapping of his sail greeted Saia's ears as he woke -- he had spent the night asleep on his canoe, as did most men of his tribe when the voyaging time came. The life of a member of the tribe was a life conducted often on the move, over the open water, and key to that process was their canoes -- normally, Saia wouldn't be alone with one, as the craft were large, allowing family to stay together as they sailed, but right now he was, well, having a little bit of a spat. It would be fine -- after the days of the voyage they would probably have forgiven him. And well-made craft were capable of going for days, food stored in the back of the canoe, the sail catching the wind and lazily but purposefully drifting along the waves...

The Voyaging Canoe is a large canoe built primarily of wood, with a large sail made of long, narrow palm fronds woven together tightly, and light wooden outrigging built at the side of the craft. The craft don't exactly take a short time to make because of the amount of stone-carved wood that has to be put plank-by-plank (each plank split and shaped carefully through merely different kinds of stones) together and the careful weaving of the palm fronds that make up the sail, and they aren't exactly fast or maneuverable, but this cost comes with the main benefit of the craft: being able to travel shockingly large distances and voyage for surprisingly long times, days at a time, allowing the tribe incredible overall mobility and nomadism over the water.

So, for my unique resource, something that's been floating around in my head (I don't honestly like "freezon" or even just general "heat manipulation" - it's a bit too obvious for this setting, and also tastes of some of the things Gavrillium was used for).

The ideas are for a material that can manipulate light, and one that manipulates force, described a bit better in the discord. However I can't really think of how to integrate either in this first phase.

...Also, I like the idea of starting with a boat but I wanna give another option so people don't feel penned into one.

Inithari Bows

The tribe that most historians trace Inithar back to were denizens of a land of many dangerous things. Many dangerous things which could, quite easily, kill the man who hunted it. There were many tribes in the area, but only that one survived - but it was not because of warfare, but because the others ended up joining them. Why? Because Inithar's ancestors were the first in the area to invent a means of hunting their prey from a distance; the first bows and arrows. The craftsmanship on each bow was exquisite, but they were far from decorative weapons, allowing the tribe's hunters to avoid even getting close enough for the hunted to become the hunters. Archaeologists make note of Inithari Bows for their craftsmanship - many examples that they've found have been preserved in burial chambers, and somehow still functional. They used stone arrowheads.

It would seem there shall be simular choices in the future. I like the bows too, but boats are nice, since we'll likely need them.

We'll need to see what each prompt asks for - I imagine it won't be a series of "what defined you in this period of time".

Idea.

Skystone

Skystone is despite the name, a special type of ore more like a type of crystal. What sets it apart from most things is it's green-blue coloration, and it's sensitivity to changes in charge. Put simply, in the old days simply holding the stone and willing it brought about a change in the air around them, bringing wind. This came to make them seem holy, a gift from the sky fallen into the earth.

In reality, these days we actually know what causes this. The nervous system of a person, and a so-called aura which is emitted from the body, can be focused to create this effect in the Skystone. However, the same types of effects can be caused through electricity when applied to it, with some control. Moreover, the effect is far better amplified due to the higher level of power inherent in such techniques.

Note, am about to read IWAR. Just this idea in my head. Maybe it can be used to give our troops an unparalleled amount of mobility on the field of battle.

Read IWAR on the Abberan side. So, Ideas.

Snowflake
Making use of a Skystone/Caelium Crystal Engine, this craft pushes through the sky at great speed, the Skystone generating Air in the thrusters, which is then immediately expelled out the nozzle. The use of Gavrillium in parts of it's construction also makes it rather lightweight, and the ---- mounted on it's wings are capable of ---- ??. It's shape is rather like a flattened triangle, with the nose and cockpit leading it's movement.

Overall, a brilliant aircraft that makes use of our technological expertise.

Note, this would obviously be a bit later once we have some interactions down.

Skyboots
The Skyboots are pretty simply. Made from Skystone, a small generator allows the user to control them with their aura, allowing quick forward movement rather like skating. Their production also takes into account air resistance, so simple bracelets made of skystone are added to create leading edges to allow high speed movement without any of the cutting air resistance to the face and body that such movement would normally involve. Likewise, being controlled by the user, it's possible to glide through the sky using them, though it's more like a very long jump, or simply jump great heights before canceling momemtum when you go back to earth with a application of wind to slow your fall.

Not so much a later game thing. Makes use of the Skystone's natural response to a person's aura for control, and a battery to greatly improve it's power to allow near skating at high speeds.

Skysteel Katana
Made from a mix of Skystone and traditional steelmaking methods, Skysteel has a unique property of any edges having an almost molecular cut when swung with any amount of force. This is mostly due to it generating a extremely fine razor edge of wind around such edges. So, using this, we've made a long & strong blade which when swung, will bisect anything in it's path. For more penetration, thrusting is also viable, as it will penetrate with ease, before you can simply flick it out.

Ealry Game, perhaps with the skyboots for quick close combat. Granted, a handgun would serve just as well, with skysteel for the bullet point.

Metaphobium Gates

Found in the Rimefields we arrived at, deposits of a strange metal can be found just about everywhere, coated with frost. This material, when forged, tends to cause things to... Well, we'll not quite sure, just that the heat tends to cause warps in space?

A more comprehensive study has shown this material can, with the proper handling, create wormholes, twists of space which can connect two distant areas. Setting them up takes a bit of work, but once set up, we can send troops and supplies anywhere in a matter of 15 minutes. And those are simply to connect the right gates.

These Gates, while difficult to handle when more than one is active at the same time, nonetheless means we can simply skip most of the sea when deploying troops. Reinforcements will be just a warp away.

Those Strange Sheep
One of the things we found when settling here were sheep. It seems a bit strange for them to be able to survive here, so we studied them for a bit.

First, they are really good at disappearing when you aren't looking right at them. Second, their wool seems like it actively resists changes. The Fur is almost always very warm, and cutting it is difficult. The fact that it also seems to keep it's shape seems to suggest it also has inertia dampening properties. Further study revealed that they actually use this full fur coat to jump off cliffs or hills sometimes and just roll down with gravity, before standing up completely unharmed. It's a very thick coat, but it seems to have served them well in surviving, as it covers all of their bodies to some degree.

Because Sheep, that's why.

More seriously, this stuff retains it's temperature very well over time, doesn't really break or tear, and holds it's form. So a Jacket that has been subjected to cold remains cool for long periods of time, while one subjected to heat remains warm for a long time. The wool also sort of bends light in such a way that unless you're looking directly at it, your eyes could just sweep past it. It can effectively be summed up as Status-Wool, since it resists state changes. That also includes force to a degree, but not as much as the original wool, this is more generalist.
