I should also amend that we should wait to build any new defenses at the refinery until after the current situation with the southern natives blows over. We can't afford to send any new developer drones there because we'd have to send at least 1 security drone with them to make that a safe move, and we need all hands on deck right now. Also, I vote that when we do divert personnel to the mining area, we also post 1 medical drone there. The reason for this is so that if any natives show up and get hurt by our defenses and/or bots, the drone is right there to help heal them, so we don't have to wait for it to cross 30 km of unsecured terrain to reach them. Have it carry a small quantity of water, too, perhaps; just enough to sustain any patients until they can be brought back to our main facility.

The colony fence is already basically done, there's only a kilometer left. Once we're finished with that, I'd support some defensive structures at the refinery though. We also want to see about clearing space for that biocenter or whatever it was called, and finishing off the landing platform so we can bring down the first wave of colonists.

Then maybe we should also add 1 more developer drone to the mix, bringing us from 4 to 5. That way, once the fence is done, we can afford to send 1 developer (with possible escort) to the mining area and build basic defenses there. The rest can work around-the-clock to build the orbital receiver so we can bring in the bio module, and we should also have some spare manpower that way to build another Drone Hub and expand our network (we're going to hit the cap pretty soon). We're going to need that extra hub's network capacity so we can have the drones we need to lay ground for the bio module, get it up and running, secure our current holdings, and also work on expanding our mining operations later. I vote for this measure, by the way.

So I'm seeing these comments about Protocol Drones and I'm not sure where they started but I'm going to say this right now. You don't have any of those, or any Drones designed for diplomacy, your mission was designed to terraform and colonise lifeless world's, diplomacy was not part of the design philosophy. You could probably invent protocol drones later on with the colonists help.

Gotcha. I started those comments out of curiosity. Thanks for the confirmation. We'll just have to focus on getting our own people down and established here, then.

I guess Protocol Drones are also known as Colonists then.

+1, but I really think we need to send some food and water with the native in addition to the jewelry. Voting for this so no confusion. Like I said, it'll show that we took care of him, and that'll go a long way towards earning some goodwill.

Requisition 2 Security Drones and 2 Developer Drones.

Have one of the developer drones create some sort of bag or container like those used by the natives, and then fill it with the same style of jewellery we gave to the northern tribe, then it should make some sort of restraints (such as a pair of manacles and a chain a drone can hold). After it's done that it should then go back to finishing off the fence with the other five developers. If four developers completed 5/6ths of the perimeter in four days, (each developer thus completed approx 5.2% per day, each), then six developers can complete the final 1/6th in half a day, so the perimeter should be complete by midday tomorrow. Hey, it's like Middle School math all over again.

When the armoured natives arrive, we should have a pair of security drones escort the captive out of the fence, with the native carrying the bag of jewellery and chained to a drone. The other two security drones will be stationed within the compound in such place that they can easily get to their half of the fence as quickly as possible. Once we've got the group's attention, we'll then release the captive and prompt it to go join its fellows, with the jewellery. Then both security drones should return to the compound, and take up positions where they can each easily move to defend their portion of the fence. The chain-link fence should not impede any of our nonlethal armaments, be they rubber bullet equivalents or tear-gas grenade equivalents. Hosing armoured infantry in rubber bullets shouldn't cause any permanent damage, but probably won't be particularly pleasant for them either.

I expect the natives to do a bit of scouting around, but by returning their friend and giving them a gift, we can hopefully show we don't actually mean them harm.

Once done with the fence, the Developer drone should start work on the landing pad for the colonists, and clearing a site for the bio center. Meanwhile, the medical drone that was looking after the captive should start preparing for whatever inoculations/immunisations/preemptive drug cocktails will be necessary for our colonists to safely function in this atmosphere.

I do not condone the Developers leaving the colony to build defences at the refinery until the armoured natives have left.

+1, but I really think we need to send some food and water with the native in addition to the jewelry. Voting for this so no confusion. Like I said, it'll show that we took care of him, and that'll go a long way towards earning some goodwill.

Foundation STage; Day 11

The night before the armed band arrives, four streaks of light fall from the sky as the new drones are dispatched in preparation for the potential conflict. During this time the Aerial scout watching the natives manages continues its silent observation, remaining unnoticed by the posted sentries, there is no significant change among the natives, though the scout does observe them doing some kind of strange ritual during the night, though whether this is religious or pragmatic in nature is unknown, aside from this however, the camp is quiet.

The colony meanwhile, is anything but, the Developers race to finish the perimeter fence in a flurry throughout the night, alongside the two new drones, while a single one breaks off to work on a few smaller trinkets, more gifts like the one given to the desert tribe, and a simple chain and manacles. The task is not particularly complex and by the morning the gifts are complete, along with the chain manacles. The remaining five drones mean while continue their work during the night, experiencing no interruptions they have nearly finished the fence by morning, a small gap remains but it will be completed during the day, and it should be more than enough to dissuade the natives.

The new Security Drones in the meanwhile are placed on standby, while the other two move into the prison in the morning to secure the captured native. It doesn't put up any kind of fight, the sight of two drones being more than enough to intimidate it to the point where it silently allows the Medical Drone to attach the manacles to both the native and one of the Security Drones, it is then handed a small bag of food and water, and brought outside to await the small army approaching the colony.

Come morning the armed band continues its straight charge towards the colony, they have an impressive grasp of how to navigate the desert, and about two hours before midday, the first scouts make contact with the fence, some start immediately making their way around while others rush back to inform the rest of the force. When the bulk of the small army crest the last dune to get a view of the colony, or more accurately the new perimeter fence, there is a moment of confusion among the natives at this sight. The fence stands outside of the river valley, and well before they can get any view of the colony itself, and there is a short bout of questioning the cartographer, but it don't last long, and soon they make a cautious advance towards the fence.

They are only halfway there when they spot your Drones advancing over the edge of the valley, captive chained to one of them, making their way towards the small force. Immediately they react, and unfortunately it seems they where jumpy, the ranged native immediately open fire on the drones, while those without ranged weapons mill around in confusion at their commanders. The weapons they use are crossbows and muskets, nothing compared to the armour of the Security Drones, however no piece of armour is completely impenetrable, and be it through expert aim or incredible luck, one shot buries its way into the right leg servo of the drone carrying the chain, jamming it and causing the drone to stumble to the ground, a stumble that, while not destroying the drone, damages its sensors significantly and cripples its main cannon. There is a concern that the captive will make a run for it, but as the other drone steps forwards to stop that, the captive crouches to the ground, clutching its leg, a crossbow bolt struck its right leg. The armed band meanwhile appears to be in a slight panic, the firing of shots and the stumbling of the drone spurs them into action, and some of them charge the fence, soon followed by the rest.

The sudden rush, along with the unfortunate incapacitating of one of the drones, nearly causes a great deal of concern, fortunately it seems the work done on the fence pays off, they are unable to smash through ti and start laying into the fence with their weapons, hacking away at it, but it does them no good. meanwhile the ranged natives continue to fire at the remaining non-incapacitated drone, but there is no miracle shot this time, the shots bouncing off the drone which moves to interpose itself between the captive and the armed band, before opening fire.

In a scene reminiscent of the ancient First World war on earth, the combination of barbed wire and machine gun annihilates the natives, and though the shots are kept non-lethal the effect is no less devastating as the natives, stuck on the other side of the fence, start rapidly falling to the firing machine gun. Their mounts rear about in panic and pain while the some of the riders are knocked straight off their backs

At this point the short battle is interrupted by a loud screech, and one of the few natives who didn't charge, wearing slightly more ornate armour than the rest (likely the commander) starts screeching and shouting orders to its comrades. Those natives who can immediately retreat to and the marksmen stop firing, miraculously it appears that despite the confusion and rampaging Hexapods, none of the natives where seriously injured and they quickly back off behind a dune at which point the commander starts scolding them, silently observed from above by the Aerial Drone. Eventually after a rather long argument the natives again approach the fence, but this time it is only five, the commander, cartographer and three others slowly approach the fence on their mounts.

Recognizing this as meeting the criteria the active Security Drone removes the manacles and steps back. The captive however is still clutching its leg, and makes no attempt to move towards its comrades, in fact it makes no attempts to move at all, a cause for concern, the natives at the fence don't seem to notice this, and start shouting, rather angrily towards your drone, the warriors at the back starting to make themselves ready for another charge. At this point you take over command of the Security Drone, and immediately instruct it to get the captive to it's comrades. The drone slowly and carefully (as carefully as it can at least) starts nudging the captive towards the fence, this seems to shake the captive out of it, at upon getting a better look at the natives, it hobbles its way straight to its comrades to one of the fence gates, though it does so without any of the gifts. Upon leaving the gate there is a short but presumably heartfelt reunion, you have no idea what they're saying or what emotions they are expressing, but there appears to be a great deal of concern regarding the injury.

Nevertheless, after this reunion, the natives gather up and after sounding a horn to gather their scattered scouts, make their way back south without any further attacks.

Reminisce business in the colony continues apace for the rest of the day, the fence is finally completed after which the Developer Drones turn around to begin work on the Orbital Receiver Pad. Bringing down the Biopod inside the colony grounds itself would be risky, the tiniest miscalculation could result in the large pod smashing into the colony structures themselves, it would probably be safer to bring it down outside Colony Grounds, but it could be done inside if you wished. The medical drone that had been looking after the captive is now starting work on the requisite medications for the colonists, a process that should be finished in a week. Wildlife continues to be cataloged, and the farms are nearly at operational level, just a few more samples will be required.

The mining site continues its work but is again observed my more natives, who this time approach much closer, forcing the Security Drone to scare them away. The convoy gets also gets tailed this time all the way to the Colony itself, but again, not approached.

The gifts the Saakin where given have stopped moving 68 kilometres southeast, and there is a lot more commotion around them right now.

So the southern natives did not have to be killed, that's good, but they managed to incapacitate one of your drones, not so good. They are on their way back to the cities, the injured former captive is spending a lot of time talking to the cartographer, who knows what will come of that.

I think this means we need to build a drone repair shop or something, also it looks like we'll need to build a new Drone Hub soon.

We should also send a developer to the mining site with an armed escort to build another fence and
some turrets.
