Very sad news
Apparently DoctorX that contributed so much in modding for the stalker games (and even had his own " Call of the Zone " most excellent game) passed away , may he be at peace in a better zone than ours.

he didn't pass away, he simply returned to the zone

his most prolific creation was the Storyline which was in call of the zone but also featured in Anomaly from what i know, so if you have played through anomaly's story you have played through DoctorX's creation.

a memorial of the zone if ever there was one. i sincerely hope they put in a small memoriam cameo for DoctorX in the upcoming STALKER 2

Ah yes, the insatiable lust of corn and rice, clearly two of the most erotic foods.

DoctorX's work can be found in pretty much every post-CoC standalone mod. Truly a pillar of the Stalker community.

Damn. The modding community is a little poorer for his passing.

Some excellent short movie to put you into the STALKER mood, "Irradiation" :
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r_9f1_z8y1U

Anyways, i just learned that the most excellent standalone mod OGSR just got a new release
download links :
Code: [Select]
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1irGXQ5P4hCxlTrW-Y1Lo1LVbVpWeQB2M?usp=sharing
https://disk.yandex.ru/d/UdWrQpPXwHMzEQ?w=1

changelog since previous version (previous version was from 19/03/2021) :
Quote
The engine has been updated to the current version without support for weapons models of CoP
Fixed quest with mercenaries and military BTR
Fixed the bartender's quest at the military base
Updated shaders
Added new terrain textures in high resolution and with correct bumps, steep parallax works fine with them
Updated options in the menu
Added textures by CarlKuwait
Added English translation of texts and books by CarlKuwait, Hudson, Chocohex, Schizosaccaromyces
--
To make the textures of translated books work, the gamedata.db_xlocale file has been renamed to gamedata.db_xpatch_locale, for this the OGSR_Configurator has also been updated.
Fixed icons for radiation, bleeding, etc on the hud. so that they are not too pale.
Fixed a problem with the attitude of the military to the actor when he uses a transponder. In some cases, they remained enemies.
Basically a must download if you like  OGSR.

note from the dev :
It is recommended to completely reinstall the game as the file structure has changed. Back up your _appdata_ folder before reinstalling!

always love stalker and stalker updates.

im always on the prowl for stalker likes but its such a unique type of shooter/rpg/sandbox. i mean there's chernobylite, rust (im tired of the toxicity of rust), and tarkov, and the non sandbox ones like metro (exodus is close) but none quite stalker-clone.

Not a game, but Sodaz made an excellent short film (about 14 min long), based on STALKER. It follows a Merc, as he goes about a mission to retrieve some valuable documents.

I noticed Radiophobia 3 has been released, and unlike the old Radiophobia 2 that required Shadow of Chernobyl, this one is a standalone game :
https://www.moddb.com/mods/radiophobia

Haven't tried it yet as it's a very big download so can't say more.

Spotted this on reddit, ever wondered what if you mixed The Long Dark with Stalker ?
Look no further because it exists and it's a standalone mod called Alone in Windstorm.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ocbKEOIXAV8

Download is on the page of its translation patch
https://www.moddb.com/games/stalker-call-of-pripyat/addons/alone-in-windstorm-english-translation
(read in the description for download links)

From what i read there is a manipulation to do in your system language setting to make it work due to cyrillics characters used in filenames, as described in that video :

Patch 1.5.2 has been released for Anomaly 1.5.1 , it's a bunch of bugfixes while they're working on the big next update (1.6)
https://www.moddb.com/mods/stalker-anomaly/downloads/stalker-anomaly-151-to-152
Spoiler: changelog (click to show/hide)

Note that it will certainly break most addons you may have so wait for them to be updated for 1.52 if you can't play without them.

For those that play the Stalker Anomaly standalone game but miss the atmosphere of the original games, make sure to get Old World Addon :
https://www.moddb.com/mods/stalker-anomaly/addons/152-old-world-addon

there's some addition to make the old world addon atmosphere even closer to the original games
https://www.moddb.com/mods/stalker-anomaly/addons/classic-foosteps-and-ui-sfx-for-owa

note : other anomaly addons may most likely be incompatible with Old World Addon

Recently discovered Goldsphere, it's a standalone mod for Shadow of Chernobyl that is an acclaimed completely new big adventure that got recently fully translated in english.

https://www.moddb.com/mods/goldsphere-completion
get the "full repack" and make sure to get the hotfix too as it fixes several bugs and mistranslations (another hotfix is on the way too)
there are mirrors to google drives for both the mod and the hotfix in their description if moddb is too slow for you
(you must start the game with the "XR_3DA.exe" that is found in ...\Goldsphere\bin\ )
So far i'm enjoying it a lot and i understand why so many people think it's one of the best Stalker mod, nice story, nice developped characters.

The start puzzled me for a bit as everything i was trying was resulting in my character being killed until i finally found exactly how to finally enter the zone without dying, so if you need it at the start :
Spoiler: some help (click to show/hide)

If the exagerrated "head bob" (a common annoyance of the stalker games) disturb you as much as it did to me, you can tone it down by pressing the tilde key and enter
Code: [Select]
cam_inert 0(default was 0.7)

to disable it completely :
edited : just get the no Head Bob addon that is now available on the mod page

One of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. video game developers killed in action near Bakhmut
https://www.pravda.com.ua/eng/news/2022/12/25/7382287/

The S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series game that I was able to play many years ago was excellent. I think it was Call of Pripyat.
