Jeeeeeesus, a simple lean-to takes twenty logs to build?!
Is there a way to skip quests? I have one telling me to build a shelter, but I ain't finna waste that much time and resources on it. Also it makes no sense, if anything a lean-to would take a few branches and sticks but instead I'm out here hewing down trees for it...

My other question is, player characters mostly seem to have "soul" next to their names, but I've seen a few folks who don't. What does that mean? Are they soulless abominations?! They didn't appear to have red hair in the character portraits, but perhaps my eyes deceived me...

Edit: aw crud, started a new page. Yeah, I made it out of the tutorial, obviously! So far I am reasonably bewildered by the rest of the game. If only I'd figured out shelter-building back on Rook Island, I coulda made my home there and lived out a simpler life. :P

Don't feel too bad using resources on the ground; if I remember right someone left behind like 300 logs by Skilvrel Grove. (Not in it, South...west I wanna say?... FYI; check the ground for stuff. Every tile. There's a lot of groundstuff.)

Your second question, I believe this could have been answered by asking questions in the tutorial. They're 'sparks'. And yup, NPCs they are. I think.

A Spear, think knife on a stick levels of primitive. A rock can do in a pinch too. Don't use a rock unless you're patient.

stone knife, bark rope, sticks
if you want full spoilers, there's a link to a spreadsheet with recipes pinned in one of the discord channels.

Hm... this thread exploded. Tempted to give it a shot but it's still too soon after Marosia shut down for me to dive into one of these again.

How much RP is there?

RP? What's that?
Is that what you kids call Rock Picking these days?

Edit: seriously though I dunno. Can't really answer considering I've only been playing a few days, but most/all communication takes place ingame or on Discord, as far as I'm aware there is no talking ingame yet. New stuff gets added all the time, though, so that'll probably change sooner or later!

I have joined the fray. Currently just started tutorial island but the way it is played has me really excited. I especially like the discord notifications when my actions are done. I got a bruise picking up a stick so I know I'm in for a ride.

I believe we're talking about full scale colonisation here.  You don't just leave all your shit in the van when you move house.

I guess that's what happens when you get over-excited. xD
Look forward to seeing you on the mainland, assuming I live that long!

I feel I'm doing really good so far. Completed the food quest, got a hammer, axe, and knife off the ground and reverse engineered them then at the end of the hour I managed to miraculously research and construct a spear to hunt rabbits. Now I'm just trying to get hides from the rabbits to complete the clothing req.

EDIT: Just finished the tutorial mission. Not shabby and on my way to the mainland.

New question: are muckroots hallucinogenic?

Muckroots are used for a certain kind of medicine, but there are hallucinogens out there which isn't muckroot.

Not mandatory pvp. There's a pvp flag (occupy) where you can just prevent people from using a building and it starts a fight when they do. There's also sparring.

Hm... this thread exploded. Tempted to give it a shot but it's still too soon after Marosia shut down for me to dive into one of these again.

Surprisingly hard question. The game is idle, meaning it's quite immersive. Nobody had weird names like xXslayer69xX. The game was probably designed for RP in mind, but players got more interested in just building little villages all over the place or unlocking tech trees. Actions on the world have consequences... like if you run around conquering orc villages for the lulz, the orcs rally and fight back.

But we do use a lot of spreadsheets and discord, so the lines are quite blurred. But I'd say if you RP, someone will play along.

I just finished newbie island.

Would you all recommend that I faff about doing my own thing for a while to get basic skills up, or hook up with some other people and try to coordinate or something?

Nothing wrong with faffing about; you probably don't have the skills to make large contributions to anything yet.
