They fly by using ink to propel themselves through the air, effectively swimming in air
So how do they move when they run out of ink?

They are less dense than air. Air is to them like water is to Terran octopi.

So what stops them from being blown away in the wind?

Good question. I will need to think on this, or think of something else that would work better

Fact: Animal People for the Atom
The Atom Continent is host to a variety of Animal People (Like the animal people from DF) there's a large variety of different species of them, but there are no bird or fish people.

(The Atom continent makes me think of all those 50's sci-fi movies, with there nuclear powdered everything, which makes me think about fallout minus the apocalypse.)
That is the idea that this continent is supposed to evoke.

I don't actually know a lot about DF, despite being on a DF forum. Elaborate?

Animal people are variants of the animals that can talk like and have attributes of people

DF animal people are basically people with the heads, some other features, and traits of the animal they represent but otherwise they function like people, the closest thing you could get to a visual representation of what I'm saying is probably the movie Zootopia.

Ah, I see. So not furries?

I'm thinking for ambience in the horror continent sometimes little creatures live inside common objects and come out during inopportune moments.
