I think I will release an optional download for this mod that patches it for use with the popular graphic sprite sets (i.e. Meph, Vettlingr). If anyone has any other graphic sprite sets they would like to see a patch for let me know and I will see what I can do.

As long as the entity files for each race* are either separated or you merge the changes in one single file like the vanilla entity_default.txt then it should be quite playable.

*the civ raws will surely need to be checked but the same might apply for any other file they share.

Goblin Fortress doesn't modify any vanilla files, so that mod is compatible with anything that doesn't drastically alter the game. So, Human Fortress and Goblin Fortress are completely compatible with each other giving you three playable races.

I will release a minor update to this mod that will remove the changes it makes to the vanilla entity_default file. (Currently, this mod makes one minor change that doesn't really effect anything anyway.)

These are the other three changes that this mod makes to the vanilla files:

Added human food poisoning syndrome to edible underground plants (plump helmet, pig tail, cave wheat, sweet pod, quarry bush and dimple cup)

• Changes to plant_garden and plant_crops:
Added [GROWDUR:1500] to edible surface plants

These changes force humans onto the surface and makes their grow seasons much longer.

Without knowing what changes the elven mod makes to the game (which we won't know until it is released), I won't know if it will be compatible or not. Unlike these two mods, the elven mod will also be using dfhack which can make even more drastic changes to the game.

Once the elven mod is released I can take a look at it though and see what changes it makes and if I can make a patch to make them work together. The elven mod seems like it will be making a lot of changes and adding a lot of new features though, so we will have to see how that changes the other parts of the game.

Well, I added a poll to my Goblin Fortress mod for future features, so I figured that I would add one here too.

I already plan to expand out the clay industry for mass production of clay blocks and to allow for the creation of most items using clay. I will also add a dozen or so new glazes and decorations for pottery.

I am also planning on adding the following:

Wood mechanisms
Clay mechanisms
Mass production charcoal
Mass production ash

I did have a few other ideas though that I would like your thoughts on:

What would you like to see expanded upon in this mod:
> Baking Industry: add a dozen baking recipes such as bread, biscuits, muffins, cake, etc. using ingredients such as flour, milk, butter and eggs.

I can't test it at the moment, but I am really interested to learn how the town/city guard squads work because they have squad limits of 15 and 20 respectively in the raws. Am I wrong in my understanding that squads are hardcoded to a limit of 10?

I am pretty sure that there is no cap. Once you fill up the first 10 in the squad, it goes to a second page. But, now you have me second guessing myself as I can't remember exactly. If you get a chance to try it out, let me know the result. :)

I decided that I am going to attempt to round off my fortress mods with "Elf Fortress". I had started this project in the past, but got a little overwhelmed without using dfhack. However, I have some new ideas and believe that I can make it work.

So, I will be making an Elf Fortress mod that will be completely compatible with Goblin Fortress and Human Fortress. Just like my other Fortress mods, it will be another vanilla-esc type mod that does not use dfhack. It will not remove any labors (like woodcutting or mining), but I should be able to remove all axes and picks. I can also set all skill gains in those areas to 0 and add extremely high rust rates making those industries worthless if you happen to find an axe or pick (not that you would ever cut down a tree or dig in the dirt). All of the workshops will look like trees/natural groves (like forest retreats in vanilla df), but will remain a single z level.

This is a sample of what some of the workshops will look like:



All items will be grown from seeds at these tree looking sites. Elves will be able to farm and have access to exotic animals as pets (like in vanilla df); however, I do not think that I will give elves access to grown logs, making building walls, floors and ceilings very difficult/impossible (as elves do not build structures in the vanilla game).

I will have to make sure that the player still has enough to do without the ability to build or dig though. I can possibly add some "magic" sites that do things like summon water (making barren areas fertile) and the like. Let me know if you have anymore ideas here.

This mod will of course require some rp from the player as other civ caravans would still bring wood items for trade. It would be up to the player on how to respond to that.

AFAIK not being able to cut down any trees at all would result in total overgrowth even in the most harsh environments. given enough time, every tile valid for a sapling to grow wil leventually grow a tree - its jsut a matter of time.
don't elves harvest trees too? just without cutting them down.

Everytime I make some progress with the elves something else comes up lol

I ran into this a little bit in a heavily forested area (it was hard to find a place to put that 13x13 workshop lol), but I didn't think about all tiles getting taken by trees. I currently do not know of a way to harvest trees without cutting them down without using dfhack.

I guess one possible solution though is to only embark in inhospitable environments (e.g. deserts, badlands, mountains, etc.) with the intention of turning those areas into new forests for the elves by "growing" tree workshops and summoning water to make the area fertile for new trees. Although that would probably require me to add trees to those biomes and remove the SOIL tag from sand and clay.

I could also potentially go through and modify the vanilla trees to not grow so closely/quickly, but that may make it harder for other civilizations (though more realistic).

Let me know if you have any ideas for this.

Placing stockpiles on top of saplings stops them from growing into trees.

Otherwise: Make tree-cutting elves. ;)
