Signs are special powers a kobold is born with. The sign can be seen visibly by a black, raised mark on their left shoulder. Most kobolds cut a hole in their clothing to display their sign. The cabinets both have a spare kenaf loincloth in them. One has a gray langur bone bracelet and the other a +peach wood cup+.
List of signs:
Owl - increased mental attribute gain and starting novice teacher
Viper - novice swordsbold and immune to poisons
Salamander - immunity to fire and starting novice skills in all metalsmithing skills
Lizard - can regenerate wounds by standing still, even mortal wounds
Badger - increased punch, kick, bite and scratch damage, stronger
Frog - amphibious and naturally profiecient swimmer
Rat - trapavoid and easier to stealth
Tiger - natural proficient climber and novice ambusher
Bluebird - at peace with wildlife and faster
Eagle - flier and has large feathered wings
Dragon - immune to fire and can throw fireballs
Elk - faster and immune to cold
Black Mamba - neurotoxic bite and fangs
Horse - three times as fast and increased kick damage
Eel - can shock opponents by touching them, natural proficient swimmer
Cat - at peace with wildlife and natural legendary climber
Hawk - flier, all are members of the royal family, large feathered wings

You grab the cup. You go down the hall. There is a staircase at the end of a long hallway, and six dorms on the sides. You see five kobolds chatting in a large nook with a long table and two chairs. The nearest one is still far away, so you can barely pick out his rat sign. The rest just seem to have black blotches on their shoulders at this distance.

Somebody rushes over to a lever and pulls it. Seven other kobolds rush over to levers and franticly pull them. Another one runs screaming into the waterfall and falls down inside the drain.
