Next game will start in few days. I'm debating Kingdom Rice Bonus, Schools of Thought and Dynastic Marriages to be added, but probably end just enlarging the amount of conquerable states (currently map is upped from 38 to 59, with most of new lands near Qin and Jin).

Looking forward to next iteration. I really thought I was smart going in on neutral Zhang in the midgame as I could have threatened the whole heartland of Chu in one swoop... but fortune wasn't on my side that day. Somewhat ironic then that by the time I'm able to take it, the game is over.

The diplomacy aspect of the game is good and tense-- there's real mutual value to not fighting two fronts at once, but at the same time everyone knows only one person can win.

The Diplomacy was definitely a critical part of this match, and combined with my fabulous luck wrt NQT's attacks and Doom's defence that cemented it really. There were quite a few points where things could have gone sideways for me.

In preparation to start 2nd game on this (enlarged) map, here's the thing I wanna implement:

Quote
SCHOOLS OF THOUGHT:

When creating your State, you must decide which School of Thought you follow; all 4 bestow certain benefits on you.

Legalist: Kingdom bonus raised to +10, +5 Rice extra from each KINGDOM-state controlled after 1st.
Taoist: Pillaging lowers Rice of the Province by 2 instead by half.
Confucian: Investing requires 3 Rice instead of 5.
Mohist: Bonus +3 Rice when Defending (still requires at least 1 Rice to Defend).

You cannot change your School at any point of the game, so choose carefully!

Yay or nay? What do you think?

Intresting legalist seems like gives large numbers but be hardest to get up.
Taoist seems to favor agressive play and has harder time being defensive while Mohist will have 4 to every defence or more as long as they provide 1 rice which makes for good turtling.
Confucian on other hand seems to be really made for large investments non Confucian only get 20 rice bonus if they invested 100 rice while Confucian would get 33 rice bonus.

Weakest of 4 four seams be leagalist although they give big point jump they have to take kingdom state which other players will be very protective up.

Yay to the idea.

Would Mohist provide +3 to both combats when being attacked by two forces in the same turn? (My thought: yes.)

Legalist could steam roll once they got a kingdom, but I think it's pretty balanced.

Nah, it provides extra +3 Rice.

If you put down 1 Rice, with Mohist bonus you have 4 Rice for defense. That split between 2 attackers means 2 Rice against each.

That kind of assume Taoist isnt playing to their field, which should be complete aggression against npcs for those first 3 which likely push them into

Taoist
1. Invade(10 points) -> 18 rice
2. Invade(9 points) x2 > 34 rice
3. Invade(9,9,9,7 points) > 58 - 64 rice

Well this means if roll of dice with them then they massivly blob up, so Taoist player left alone quickly spirals into huge points if only npcs around them.
Unlike rest Mohist bonus will only start kicking in when most of players meet each other, it favors player who have larger borders with us as each of your provinces are easier to defend then normal.

I guess it all comes down to whether outright attack from turn 1 is a good strategy. Players have been split on this, and I have favoured investing first, but I suppose the all-out attacker would have to lose three times in a row before their strategy could be said to have failed, and you are right that the Taoist has even more to gain from a lucky win against an NPC.

A test bed for national/religious/what-have-you modifiers: click here

It also comes with another new idea, that of the central NPC state actually doing something.
