Dwarf Fortress But! Series (DF in different time periods)
« on: October 23, 2019, 08:24:02 pm »

So this is going to be a little experiment of mine. Basically, I'm going to be taking the vanilla dwarf fortress experience and editing it to take place in various time periods. As of right now, the available time period is Dwarf Fortress But Cyberpunk, with more to come later. I won't be changing toooo much compared to my usual work, just enough to spice things up. I'm probably going to focus on refining cyberpunk for awhile before working on other time periods.

DF but Cyberpunk features:
-Gritty modern atmosphere. Less cyber and more punk, but with magic.
-You make weapons from steel and ceramic armor from aluminum+various other materials depending on how you choose to do it
-Guns with various modern bullet types. Note: Sub-machine guns and machine guns use "magazines" as ammo instead of bullets. This is because rapid fire isn't possible in df, so I am simulating it by having the rapid fire guns shoot big singular projectiles that do slashing damage, meant to represent emptying your magazine and firing a hail of bullets. It reads awkwardly but its the best I can do.
-Technology has caused changes to the DF-universe metaphysics. Animal people went extinct and giant animals turned into violent cyberized monsters to represent the death throes of the natural world.
-If you kill something with cybernetic parts/a mechanical creature and butcher it, you will gain blocks of the metal it is made out of.
-Vehicles and tanks. Normal vehicles are civilian-tier with no weapons, but tanks are special and have AI-Golems as pilots, meaning they can operate independently of a driver (ie you can train them as war animals). This may change with the mount update.
-Biofuel (grass-powered) factory drones produce things like rubber, latex, and polymer fabric.
-Some special soil types that yield resources when cleared away.
-Pollution has caused the grass and trees to be brown/yellow/gray instead of green.
-Elves got hit hard by the diminished of the natural sphere and now have rust/gray coloration. They also lost their protection from wildlife and use modern weaponry and armor. However, they will still bug you about trees.
-Dwarves are more or less the same but maybe a bit more ruthless and pragmatic. They value power more and are willing to use forceful interrogation if it gets them results. Think of them as a harsh but fair megacorp.
-Goblins are now on the same technological level as dwarves (as are other races). Think of them as the evil megacorps controlling the world from their mile-high towers with their demonic CEOs.
-Humans are humans. All over the place.
-Satyrs, Trolls, Kobolds, and Ogres are now adventure mode playable races.
-Satyrs are basically the Vegas faction. All about personal freedom and making a buck.
-Trolls rebelled from the goblins and formed their own Trolletariat Party to fight their goblinoid oppressors. Results may vary.
-Kobolds are the scrappy 3rd world guerilla faction.
-Ogres are cave-dwelling truckers who operate on Mad Max rules. Not the most civilized folk.

Guns:

Combat Rifles (AK-47 lookalikes) use 7.62x39mm bullets
Assault Rifles (AR-15) and Bullpup Rifles (self-explanatory) use 5.56x45mm bullets
Carbines (M1), Pistols, and Revolvers use 5.6x15mm bullets
Shotguns and Assault Shotguns (double-barrelled, AA-12) use 12-gauge Slugs (for solid ammo) and Shells (for pellets)
Sniper Rifles, Heavy Pistols, and AT Rifles use 12.7x99mm bullets
One and Two-handed submachine guns use 9x19mm magazines
All Machineguns use 12.7x99mm
Gatling Guns use 7.62x51mm magazines
Artillery Cannons use 105mm artillery shells
