I will be learning Crusader Kings on this; wish me luck
My advice for your first game is to be somewhat passive and react to things as they come rather than trying to learn everything at once. Understanding will come in time and even losing wars can be fun. One of the best CK2 games I played was after I lost a war, I had to scheme and form alliances in order to overthrow my liege and it took 2 generations of planning to do.

Don't know how improved it is in CK3, but in CK2, playing as a lower level lord (count) is harder in that its easier to get a game over, but it is easier in that there is less going on. Less pots on the stove, basically. If you feel overwhelmed, playing a count somewhere might help you learn more of the basics.

Honestly the addition of tooltips will help you a lot to learn I think. I've only played about 20 minutes but it seems a lot more understandable already. Then again 1k+ hours in ck2 here so take my word with a grain of salt.

Haven't had a chance to get a real good grasp of the game yet, but the decision to include stacking tooltips (that is, you hover over a tooltip and it includes tooltips you can then hover over) is a decision as reckless as it is just. Only problem is that the two modes for doing that are "wait for a second while it decides to lock into place for you" and "use the middle mouse button, because we're still pretending your mouse has one of those instead of a wheel you're unaccustomed to using as a button." Why not right click to stick the panel?

I honestly use my mouse wheel as a button more often than as a wheel! Especially to "open link in new tab".

Surprisingly, smooth and no crashes.  Haven't really seen a bug yet.

There's some glaring things I miss, like ambitions having been removed. I've been making notes in my head, intending to share it here. But overall I have a good impression. I think that if you liked CK2 you won't dislike this game (if you don't know if you liked ck2 I'd say go play that first, it's free now). I can't say if it's worth 500 if you already own ck2... But I don't think it's not worth it either.

They added a switch character option on the pause menu so you can switch characters without doing the whole "exit game, load game, pick new character on loadup" dance, which is nice.

I must say. My first impression was that the UI was clean and clear, but I am growing increasingly annoyed at it in practice.

So, compared to a fully dlc'd ck2, what features were cut and what were brought in?
I'm kinda wondering if there's going to be a string of ck3 dlcs called 'Conclave', 'Charlemagne', 'Horse lords' etc.
