Fortresses affect available starting animals
« on: December 06, 2019, 12:21:29 pm »

Suggestion: Make animal domestication knowledge of a fortress affect the starting animals available to the civilization, the animals that might be present in other forts and the animals that the civilization may trade.

Discussion: The idea comes from the latest episode by Krugsmash where he tried to domesticate badgers and make them available to his dwarven civilization. Unfortunately it seems this is not possible for now but it would fit really nice with the next update that appears to going to change mounts. It is just a way in which one of your fortress could change the world.

So, the availability of domesticated animals isn't changing not because it was never thought of, but rather because the current entities can't handle these kinds of changes. It's why I am perhaps just as excited for the law and customs arc as I am for myth and magic, as that's when entities are set to be reworked a good deal. (There's also a lot of economy related stuff being limited by entities not being terribly good at dealing with resources like domesticated badgers)
