Hello, me of a year from now. I'm going to give you some reminders as to how we were doing when this message was written, so you have a little more context to parse my following questions.
I've been training judo fairly steadily over this year, only once or twice a week due to all my commitments with karate and such, but I managed to get to orange belt, and it's helping with the goal I decided to pursue it for in the first place - to help contextualize the karate kata I know by filling in the skills gap they require. The sport of judo itself is still rather too ... sporty for my taste - techniques are tournament-oriented a fair bit of the time - but I enjoy it a fair bit.
Karate is going well. Nothing's really changed, yet everything has - as is the way with long paths. My knowledge of legitimate bunkai principles is growing, though to be honest the only kata I think I've actually gotten to the point where I can halfway practice it in sparring are the gekisai katas, and even then only part of them. There's set to be a really good black belt grading this year, so I'm excited for that. Overall, I've had a good year as far as karate goes. I've found a good new aim to focus my energies on in applying the kata rather than just refining techniques and the like, and I'm hoping this year proves to be productive with that in mind.
I didn't get much writing done on either Respect Your Elders or From A Dead World - too busy waiting for myself to be in the mood to write. ...well, actually, 'not much' writing isn't quite true - I got three turns of Elders out in a year. Regardless, way too much time spent not writing, so I made a promise to write something every day, anything with a creative bent. Hopefully you kept that promise.
I fell for two people this year. (Hate using the term 'fall in love' - love's a choice, this process isn't) Both cases were handled with a significant trend of improvement compared to the last two, which lasted 5 years and 5 months respectively, and both caused significant mental duress compared to the ones from this year. First case was a recurrence of my attraction to the 5-year person, which lasted around a month or so before I resolved it by telling them about my feelings. This caused the affliction to fade within a week, a strategy which proved itself a second time with the second case, with that person who lives in the capital currently. Any feelings of limerance only lasted around 2-3 days after I confessed my infatuation, which I ended up resolving to do after only a week. This, along with the relative amount of time it took for my feelings from past entanglements to fade, suggests that it takes approximately 1/4 to 1/3 of the time I held my silence for the feelings to fade, starting from the day of telling. Comes with risks of its own, but eh. Workable for now. Also, the tendency for me to slip into overly clinical, robotic terminology when discussing my feelings is something I've been noting for a while and really need to get to work on reversing.
Anyhow, context given! So tell me, me of around 12 months from now, how have things changed, if at all? Let's see, specific questions...
Have you gone back to school? Continued to exist in semi-limbo as far as that situation goes? Decided on any major life direction?
How's your progress in karate and judo going? How'd the black belt grading this year go?
How's your progress in writing stuff for your quests and other such stuff going? How many updates for Elders and FADW have you put out this year?
What developments as far as falling for people? It happens at least every 6 months and I haven't figured out a way to prevent it yet, so I'm sure we'll have to deal with at least one occurrence this year. Mayhaps this new method will actually work sustainably, who knows.
