Slow going on the trap building, mechanisms aren't being built and installed fast enough

I'm not sure what I am supposed to be looking at.

There are so many ways you have made a massive mistake that will come to haunt you. Your name shall go down in history as "Smunstu the already-dead".
Indeed, your determination is kinda impressive, and also completely suicidal.

Picture found scrawled on a beehive in dried blood

You are literally running towards the zombie hangout spots.

And here we have the exact moment when she realizes that she ran into both zombies and dingoes, and decides to get out of here.

Be careful around the dingoes, I think they can smell fear.

And here we see the dingoes take pursuit of their natural prey, gobelinus obliviosus
The goblin tries evasive manuvers...

... only to end up closer and between the dingoes and zombies, I guess she may be hoping they stay away from each-other and therefore her.
Unfortunately, zombie humans are faster than she is.

She did not last long.

With her dead, the zombies go after some tougher prey.

Hematite

I run out of refined coal, which is annoying. Our supplies of wood are inaccesable due to being on the wrong side of the drawbridge in the caverns. I briefly open the bridge, but stop when the forgotten beast "Gened" comes running towards us.

Speaking of which, Gened has decided to fight every creature in the caverns.

And has become very injured in the process. I think he may be killable.
Get the militia, it's time to find out. Open the drawbridge!

[...]
Wait, where is he?

Oh.

Eliminated by a draltha, what a way to go. He basically fought everything until finally being killed.

Does nobody at this fort have basic survival instincts?

Well... At least that ended safely.

Hopefully our dwarves are a bit smarter in regards to self-preservation.

Speaking somewhat-of-which, should we go for .03? There are various bugfixes, and I don’t see any disadvantages.

I'll update it. Speaking of updating, I've been busy the last few days, but should be able to go back to playing now. Currently in early summer.

Still going, probably not going to have much to update with.

Edit: Discard that last part. Quick Question: Did any of you get emotionally attached to a fortress guard?

Nice. I'll add you to the list.

Looking forward to it, auze. You're getting pretty close to the two week mark, do your best to get done soon.
Didn't see that edit. Hope not everyone is dead. :P

Yeah, updating has been a little weird as I am simultaneously excited to play and scared to touch the thing for fear that I may miss something. Here's a quick mini-update to tide things over, I may just finish with a less in-depth updates from here on out.

Hello, I put this off way too far. Now, time to try and make up for that before this fortress dies, or the thread does, whichever comes first.

In order to get more wood, I reopen the caverns temporarily. I need to also dump out a ton of bodies from here.
Things are looking better...

2nd Malachite

Well, that peace lasted for all of 15 minutes.

I hate this place

Fortunately, the beast seems to be getting caught in it's own dust. No clue if it will get affected by it.
And now to try to save someone who is down here

She may not make it, but you bet I am going to try.

On that note, there is a new vacancy in the fortress guard. Unfortunately, he died to quickly to see what syndromes the
dust carried. I bet the animal caretaker can still flee...

Never-mind

At least we now know what the immediate syndromes are.
I think she is probably doomed.

Fun fact: the forgotten beast's dust blast is so powerful that she is being launched into the air by it.
That is not considered healthy by most medical experts.

(note, if any of the spacing is weird, I typed this on Notepad and then copied over here)

Mini-Update as I speed through the final few months:

Obviously that dorf that got up close to the FB didn't survive, both her and the guardsdwarf died slow and painful deaths...

[...]

[...]

[...]

And then the Forgotten beast committed suicide. Again.
I have questions.

Yeah...

Final Update:

All of the zombies disappeared, so I decided to let some winter migrants come in (by bridge, should've used the labyrinth instead).
I did not expect the echidna corpse.
We drove it off* with only 3 4 casualties**.
And then the zombie horde bum rushed in.
The upper level has been compromised.
And then Granite came, and it ceased to be my problem.
So, I recommend cutting off the lower layers, while the horde takes a trip into our very well stocked*** hospital.
Sorry.
Here is my file, plus the text document where I typed my updates, as well as all of my pictures for archival purposes.
Good luck, Laterigrade.

*by which I mean the echidna became tired of mauling them.
**On the bright side, Del gets to have a short break for the rest of eternity, or until the necromancer fixes that.

This. This here. In three sentences, you have hit upon the very root of why succession fortresses spin so madly out of control! I must sig.

Also, hello. PTW :))

And then the zombie horde bum rushed in.
Well that doesn't bode well for the health of the fort.
