. . . we clogged the magma pipes with ICE??? lol
Smallhands' greatest achievements are both amazing and usually accidental.

Well, well, well. Guess this fortress has finally seen sense and i have been picked to be overseer. To think i Lady Avolition would be picked. Im not surprised, they clearly see that i am a cultured dwarf of taste. Unlike the other dwarves here. To think, they left me to die when that troll skeleton came to life. But now i am eternal. Big changes are happening here, i am done with the tired decor and the lack of flavor in this place. I many be undead but i clearly have more taste than them. It has what i have clinged to, when i first returned i was nothing but a drone, a meer puppet to the whims of the fortress. My first order, build me a tower. Such a breathtaking world we live in yet, these heavens perfer seeing dirt all day. My tower will climb towards the sky giving me a window to the world. I will sit at my desk, eating a delicious roasted giant leopard in a tomato wine sauce with a side of longland grass seeds. I will turn smallhands into a work of art. I wish it would be my hands but i cannot. I am compelled to focus on cooking. It seems like i cannot full break out of this cycle.

Salmeuk, having grown tired of the usual lifestyles available to citizens of Smallhands (namely, alcoholism and pretending to have "the sickness" to get out of work), wholeheartedly backs this new wave of redesign. From the safety of his private room, far way from the magma tubes and collapsing tree farms, he shouts his encouragement and dares anyone to criticize the new plans, the details of which he has yet to read but knows are likely good fun and totally not dangerous or whatever.

Hopefully this new tower won't be in the goop like the last one

Ah finally some food with legs, my predecessor did an adequate job. But after serveal years of beak dog and dog meat, its time we spiced it up. I may not have the skills he has but if all i can do is cook for all of eternity than cook i shall. This month on the menu, no more is it beak dog on the bone. Instead i have served up a fine Dwarven Syrup roast, using the blackbird eggs and sweetpods we have, i mixed them up into a delicious meal.  In other news, i have assigned the more artistically inclined dwarves to start engraving and smoothing the walls here. Honestly this place is a dull lump of clay, lets shape it into a gem of our civilization and to any of those industrious dwarves who keep moaning on about magma tubes and the like. Feel free to voice any and all complaints into any bin in the fortress. Any dwarf caught disobeying will be happily reassigned to clean up duty, seems the last overseers though get corpses and remains laying around was like totally fine and what not but this isnt going to pass around here anymore.

Through the vile goo, a silhouette of a creature was spotted. Jumping down a great ledge, its hands clawing down the stone and slowing its decent. The dwarves working on the tower were meet by a giant humanoid with a head of a bull. The creature turned to face them revealing a massive chunk of face missing, revealing its hungry mouth and large sharpened teeth.

As the other dwarves ran to safety to call for the overseers army, a certain dwarf charged the beast and jammed his iron pick into the beasts left foot, bringing the beast down and slowing it to buy time. By the time the overseers army arrived, they were met by a sole survivor. Salmeuks right arm oozing blood, he simply walked away decending into the fortress, leaving behind the corpse of this foul creature. In honor of this, our current overseer will display the body of this creature inside the tower. An eternal reminder of the brave dwarf who fought solo against The horned beast.

By Armok, Salmeuk did all that one handed

Hopefully we have a good unfevered doctor around. I know Imic's dead and so is our mad scientist. I don't know if we got any remaining medical personel short of salmeuk himself

Edit: and if memory serves, wasn't Salmeuk a pacifist or at least averse to combat and sacrifice?

38 years this fortress has stood proudly but tiny. It has survived necromancy, goblins, forgotten beasts, traitors, !!science!!, flooding, magma leaks and the most dangerous enemy of all- dwarven incompetence.

Smallhands has crushed each and every enemy save one: weevilmessiah, the regal god of thalldom and his servant Ikud.

Excellent turn Avolotion, you've done Smallhands proud!

I would like to take year 40 and test this fortress on my new laptop. However that first requires somebody taking year 39. I have an idea for the fort's 40th anniversary.

Thanks, the fort was a lot of fun. Sign me up for another go. Really want to see how this fortress goes from standard fortress to layered city climbing into the air. Complex architecture wrapping around itself, rooms collapsed into eachover and burried rooms awaiting their return to use.

Also you missed werebeasts on that list. Werebeast are for sure a fortress killer.

I'll probably pick up year 39 as soon as I can work myself up to it.

Fort is running at 21 FPS, the ground is having a panic attack in places, and what looks like a conga line of zombified Hungry Heads has formed on (I think) Z-level 32 of the caverns.
I love dwarven status reports.
