We have 400 stones...somewhere. It's truly a mystery because they're not in any stock piles or even visible on the map. Great.

I believe you were seeing the stones that are in the constructions. they remain tracked as 'stones' even though they have, well, become walls. maybe not though!

damn. I lol'd heartily at your turn, knowing exactly the kind of painful, burdensome experience it is to try to clean or organize a fortress this old. you begrudge all previous constructions or complex stockpile setups. or previous overseer's need to overproduce some miscellaneous trade good. or the abundance of unlabeled levers. I think we have levers from, like, the first few turns still. lol

Smallhands proves that chaos reigns supreme. second law of thermodynamics.

Yeah, stones in constructions show up in the stocks menu. You could try DFHack's cleanconst command to "clear" them. Might help a bit with FPS, but the increase isn't usually so much, imo (if there's any gain at all).

Save acquired. Fps is hovering at around 22 on my laptop on initial unpause. It hops between 20 and 40.

my first thought: who, in Armok's name let the mugma on the tall bar get turned into obsidian?

second thought: I don't know who made that massive red tower over by the southeast but I'm afraid its coming down come my turn. My ego won't allow the middle finger the tall bar and surrounding structures made to the goblins to be obstructed by a tower that doesn't deserve to be bigger than the tavern

third thought: WHO DESERCRATED MY TAVERN WITH A STATUE OF SPRIGGANS

fourth thought: My glorious tavern and Recon's legacy will not be tarnished by incompetence and traitors just because my dwarf happens to be in the underworld atm

... I'll happily take the fort to its conclusion.
Now I'm suspicious that you to meant its final conclusion.

It is the magma umbrella that he is talking about.

Fort is running at 21 FPS, the ground is having a panic attack in places, and what looks like a conga line of zombified Hungry Heads has formed on (I think) Z-level 32 of the caverns.
I love dwarven status reports.

Update:

2 months into fatcats save. Fps is plodding but improving. A few DFhack commands does wonders. Some serious trash disposal is needed.

This fortress is lacking in serious maintenance.

Log of Avuz the Most Unholy 1st of Limestone 187

My lord weevilmessiah has been unusually quiet lately during nightly prayers until tonight. Having successfully condemned that arch heretic Recon to his domain, he bade me set about creating an abundance of life and death plus some associated tasks to turn Smallhands into a new citadel of thralldom with me as His Most Favoured.
So far my tasks were small and stealthy such as putting water in the magma pumps, blocking access to the food stocks and releasing the fire imp that slew the infidel.
But tonight was different. In his magnamity he gave me a new task. A change of plans: Smallhands is no longer going to be a temple! No, its going to be a new WardPuppets. He even promised a new slab with the secrets of life and death for my perusal once I make sufficient progress!

I could be immortal and bend the world to my will, to the messiah's will! I could bathe in alcohol every morning and force every goblin to strip dance at my whim!

I only had to set the stage for a dogmatic ritual of eld. Trinkets, circles of power, murder... all those could wait. My task begins with the most important step: acquiring control of smallhands.
What fortuitous timing then that Fatcat stepped down from Overseership citing the usual rubbish militiadwarves do when they get bored of power. The dwarves held an emergency meeting to announce a successor. With a few well placed favours and a suggestion to make more soap I have assumed the position of Overseer!

Nothing can stop me now so long as I tread carefully.

I set the unguided to executing the bear army ostensibly for fat for soap. An innocent enough task were one not aware of the applications of raw meat in contacting the underworld.

An age of thralldom awaits

-------------------

ooc bit of story to tide over while i repeat delphonso's turn. Not had much time to play lately. Most of it has been testing out methods to get water out of the magma tunnel while dealing with ~27 fps

no worries, it can be tough to filter the chaos of an old fortress like this.
