If you get stuck with anything on the moddding-end of your overhaul, just leave me a message, I'd be happy to help. :)

I'm with magnificent Meph here, if there is anyway I can help out, I'd be happy to.

Also, I sent you a PM Vett  ;)

Also also, I didn't notice the PM you sent me earlier!  I feel silly having posted on this thread without checking my messages first!  Sorry about that.  8)

I'm starting this up again. Done a lot of work on this for the past few days.

I'm thinking about adding some "mythical metals" but base them in actual alloys. Like Orchalcum being Nickel-Aluminium-Bronze and so forth. I just don't like long names.

Other than that, I've been reading up on all the ore-related geology articles I can find, as well as going to the institution library to read what they have.

Yeahm the names are not set yet. I went with mithril since the metal is not an Iron based alloy. King Steel or Deep Steel is nice, I like both of them, sounds dwarfy enough.
I usually prefer a one syllable prefix for useful alloy names like that.

King Steel sounds a little awkward- maybe Royal Steel? Oh - it probably should be King's Steel. If you want to go Tolkien without the proprietary name, you could also use True Silver.

And if you want to draw from metals out of real world mythologies, maybe there's something here:

Celestial Bronze (Greek - also called "Mountain Copper." Deadly to monsters.)
Imperial Gold (Roman - Enchanted gold. Again, deadly to monsters. Won't harm mortals.)
Of course you mentioned Orichalcum (Greek - perhaps based on Auricupride, a copper-gold alloy.)

Cold Iron - supposedly a charm against fey and dead spirits, etc, what defined it as such varies from source to source, and I think this name could be appropriated as it's own distinct metal type.
Star Iron/Sky Iron - actually meteoric iron, but again, the name could be appropriated. Sky Steel sounds good too.

I would also suggest, from the norse myths, the names of the two chains and the final wire that were forged by dwarves and used to attempt to and finally bind the great wolf Fenris, in order of strength:

Loeding (perhaps Loednite)
Dromi (or Dromite)
Gleipnir (or Gleipnum)

Looking forward to seeing what comes of this!

So far I want to base the mythical metals on actual alloys. As is shown in my most recent notes:
Code: [Select]
Tier - Chromium, Cobalt // Tungsten
Chromril - Weapons and Armour - 2 Cobalt, 1 Chromium, 1 Tungsten, 1 Flux, 1 Fuel
Tungsten - Weapons - Tungsten ore + 4 Charcoal
Cobalt - Weapons and Armour - Cobalt ore

Tier - Iron
Thunril - Weapons and Armour - 1 Thorium ore + 4 Steel + Flux
Steel - Weapons and Armour - 3 Iron, 1 Mangan, 1 Flux, 1 Fuel
Iron - Weapons and Armour - 1 Iron ore

Tier - Copper // Nickel, Tin, Aluminium
Orichalcine - Weapons and Armour - 2 Bronze, 1 Aluminum, 1 Nickel Silver, Raw Glass
Bronze - Weapons and Armour - 3 Copper, 1 Tin
Copper - Weapons and Armour - Copper Ore

Tier - Titanium // Molybdenum, Aluminium, Niobium
Titansteel - Weapons and Armour - 1 Vanadium Ore, 4 Titanium
Titanium - Armour - 1 Rutile, 1 Rock salt, 1 Sulfur

Wouldn't greek for mountain + copper be: Oros + Chalcos -> Orichalcum?

I don't know about imperial Gold, it sounds like a recent fabrication.

If you want to extend your norse metallurgical vocabulary, here is a few glosses:

Eir - Copper or bronze, cognate with English Ore
Málmur - Ore or general term for most metal.
Isarn - Homonym for járn (Iron), preserved without haplology, compare german "Eisen"
Járn - Iron, english cognate.

Could be, on closer investigation. I did see a note that the romans may have thought orichalcum meant "golden copper." (Side note, interesting article here.)

Hm! It does seem that way. I expect there's some overlap similar to all the slightly varying stories about cold iron.

THe Mod is almost finished and working. I have been fiddling a lot with the last finishing touches, such as color and material values as well as reactions. So far the features present are as follows:

- Loads of new stone "biomes"
- Loads of new Ore
- New metals (cobalt, chrome, tungsten etc.)
- New alloys (Chromril, Truesteel, Titansteel, Truesilver, Orichalcum)
- Asbestos Clothing
- New substances and reactions (sulfur, lead crystal glass etc.)
- Guns and Black Powder

The mod has full graphics support for all new features and many new graphics will also be updated for the vettlingr Tileset as well. I will be looking into making a light version for implementation in other mods, ie. a version that tweaks existing vanilla content without adding new stuff.

This is great news!  Your continued work is appreciated and the mod release anticipated  :)
Forgive me if this is a stupid question, but does it need TWBT?  Asking because I get too many crashes with it.
(So of course I'm also interested in the light version.)

So far it is heavily integrated in TWBT. Though while working on it I've found out some syntax that causes instability, but I can not confirm that it fixes all crashes. It is intended to be an umbrella mod for all my mods so far, so it will include the DBDB and honey industry fix (Changes all jugs to buckets in reactions)

The light version will probably use ascii.

Why the jug to bucket change?

Why the jug to bucket change?
Jugs offer a lot of complications in stockpiles. It is hard to make a stockpile only for jugs and the content of jugs sometimes end up in bins, which makes them unusable. Buckets almost always transfer their contents into barrels, which is way more reliable.
