Task Force Xray - A PvE arms race against ayyliens
« on: May 05, 2020, 10:13:20 pm »

<insert fluff text I can't be bothered to type out here that can just be summed up as "Aliens are attacking the earth, and it's up to us, an underfunded and outgunned group of soldiers, scientists, and engineers, to stop them!">

This will be a simple (in theory) PVE arms race where the player team (the Task Force) has to stop an alien invasion, with humanity's survival on the line. Surely entrusting a bunch of B12 users with no situational awareness will work, right?

The rules are: no knowingly contributing designs/strategies that will cause us to lose missions for stupid reasons, follow all B12 rules, and be intelligent.

Spoiler: Phases (click to show/hide)

Spoiler: Starting Equipment (click to show/hide)

It is currently the Strategy Phase.

Known UFO locations:
UFO-001: Above USA, very small, no escorts
UFO-002: Above Europe, small, no escorts

Glass is, as usual, correct.
Yep, as ever, I bestow upon Glass the expected +1
I'm gonna say we go with whatever Glass's idea is.

I say we go after UFO-001: Above USA, very small, no escorts.

We apparently have six interceptors, so I suggest three at each. Should be a good judge of the difference in risk between Small and Very Small UFOs

+1 Testing the waters is probably a better idea than just going after just one.

After you prepare your interceptors for air combat, you send the first squadron (Condor-001, Condor-002, and Condor-003) after UFO-001, with 3 Condors returning (one being badly damaged with a wing nearly melted and the other being lightly damaged from burns) with the UFO crashing in a farm, and the second squadron (Condor-004, Condor-005, and Condor-006) gets sent after the small UFO, and only two make it back without getting destroyed, both considerably damaged, and the small UFO crashes inside a small town.

It is now the research phase. Find something to research. Perhaps you might want to look into half decent ground equipment designs, or maybe something else?

Design:
While Black Hawks are a fantastic troop transport for the role they are designed they carry few personnel and are frankly a bit expensive to simply ferry soldiers, scientists, and engineers to small crashed vessels which may or may not even have any resistance. Thus i suggest purchasing some used Buses off the internet for continental operations they can carry more men travel more inconspicuously and we can pretty easily make them modular by removing rows of seats install a pen for alien containment or a couple of sealed tubs for transporting artifacts and scraps of machinery simple solution for complicated problems.

-snip-
The dropships (like the Blackhawk) are meant for troop transportation. We recover loot and everything alien that's bolted down/not bolted down via salvage teams that arrive when the AO is clear, so our scientists and engineers can interact with the ayylien shit back at base.

Yeah but if the operatives can throw the shit in the back certainly doesnt hurt to save on the budget. Also I just like the image of highly trained and equipped operators with a captive alien stuck in downtown traffic in a school bus.

-Blackhawk: A transport helicopter. Has a decent amount of room.
-Can carry 8 soldiers and 1 vehicle
-Max 2 (but time consuming to repair if downed)
Maybe we can put the bus on the helicopter to add extra troop space?

Gladiator: Since we have vehicle transport space on our Black Hawks we should probably use them up, the Gladiator is a unmanned ground vehicle that is remotely operated from some operator back in base with radio waves, or one of our soldiers can personally take control of it for more precise usage on the field. Equipped with a .50 cal machine gun on the top and a 360 degree camera for our operators, armored composite plating to shape its body where it holds vital wiring and you have a form of mobile Armor platform that can be delivered through a transport aircraft.
