Astarte

With all her time spent under Nyna's thumb, Astarte was quick to notice the rage quickly building within the Lady, causing her to take a quick step back, "I'm only theorizing my Lady. The orders are there if you wish to review them yourself" she stated, trying her hardest to keep the rising fear off of her expression. This was exactly what she was worried about, this child simply going off on her for the actions of those who rely on her to get their commands through.

Yava
"I am Mischa," Yava said, before nodding to Sola "She is Lara."
This wasn't her first time around the block. You don't just offer up your name so easily in the underworld, not unless you know and trust who you're dealing with. Sometimes not even then. And she certainly wasn't going to go taking any unnecessary risks until she had a better grasp of what this was all about.

"What do you wish to discuss, Miss Ambrosia?"

Jessie

"I sound good." the girl insisted, "Why are you bothering me?" She kicked the vending machine again, and this time she was lucky enough to dislodge her prize. A look of joy shot over her as she hurriedly ducked down to grab it.

Astarte

That step may well have saved Astarte's life. Nyna was on her feet before Astarte even realized the Lady had drawn her weapon. Thanks to the step back, she wasn't able to close the distance with anywhere near the same ease. Instead of whatever action she had planned, Nyna stopped at pointing her blade at Astarte's throat. "You should keep your damn theorizing to yourself." she snarled. But that was the end of it, she whipped her sword around and returned it to its sheath in the wheelchair. Nyna remained on her feet--unsheathed in her own way--with her back to Astarte once more. "Leave me. I'll handle the paperwork on my own." she sounded sullen. Were she not a cruel and brutal monster such a tone might have induced sympathy. Indeed, that very sullen tone had been precisely what Nyna had used to snatch her station out from under Astarte's nose.

Yava

"I'd like to know why two meisters showed up on my doorstep with one of my necklaces and no passcode." Ambrosia said, "By the names you gave, neither of you is admitting to being a Lady or Dame, so you must have some reason for being here. Surely you're not disgruntled customers? I make a point of remembering people."

Jessie

Jessie smiled a bit when the girl got her chips, but her expression turned downward quickly.
It was clear that nobody was caring for this child: she was covered in dirt, her clothes were threadbare, her glasses were broken, goddesses-sake. And if her reaction to getting a bag of chips was anything to go by, she must not have been getting much of any real food. Anything had to be better than this.

"Couple of reasons. One, you look like you're in need of some help. I'm not questioning your ability to do things-" Jessie held out her palms placatingly, "-but it's pretty clear to me that you've been out on the streets for a while, and there's definitely better opportunities out there. Second, I was asked to look for somebody like you. Which may not sound great, I know, but nobody involved is trying to do you any harm." Jessie wasn't actually sure of that, but damn if she was going to show that. "And third - and most importantly to me - because I've seen how you were being ignored out here, and it hurt me. Someone stepped on your hair. That's not okay, and I'm not going to stand for letting that happen when I can do something about it."

There she was going with the morality speeches and shit. At least she was acting on this one. Or trying to, at least.
Do it for the kid, at least. Try to be real, try to live up to this for the kid.

Yava
The cool expression Yava wore up till then briefly faltered. So... she had sensed Sola too. Which meant that however she was doing it, it wasn't just detecting the actual presence of holy weapons, but something deeper. She inwardly shuddered at the thought of what else this woman might be able to sense, but at the very least it seemed the aliases hadn't immediately fallen apart. Best to keep rolling with the waves.
"Disgruntled Customers? No, actually," Yava shook her head, "As Lara said, she bought necklace from street vendor not long ago. She is sucker for trinkets and such, couldn't help self. We stop here for lunch only because looked decent enough, really. Though, If I knew that little necklace would draw so much attention, perhaps I try harder to talk her out of buying back then... Oh, and before I forget: Empidonax flaviventris... hmm Yellow-bellied Flycatcher. Pretty little green and yellow bird. Thrive in forested areas and moist environments, like bogs. Darts out from foliage to catch insects in flight."

Yava

"Honey, I'm not stupid." Ambrosia said in a condescendingly sweet tone, "That is an awful lot of coincidence to write off, especially while dealing with a Water holy weapon. Drop the act and start answering my questions."

"You're not going to intimidate us." Sola spoke up for the first time since Ambrosia revealed herself, "Whether we're here by purpose or mistake, we will not cower to your simplistic threAAAAAA-"

Ambrosia's bloodstained nails retreated from Sola's neck. "Shut up, Zippy." she sneered.

The attack was sudden and shocking, especially for Sola who clearly was not used to being on the receiving end of attacks. The princess was crying and clutching at her neck, feebly trying to get it to stop bleeding. It was only a flesh wound, but Sola was too preoccupied with her panic to realize that.

Jessie

"You were looking for me?" the girl asked, " Well, I guess if you really want to help." This time the punctuating kick was to Jessie's shins. The girl turned to flee, fading into the crowd before Jessie had time to pursue.

Jessie wasn't sure why, but she couldn't for the life of her remember what this mission was about. That was pretty bad, given she was smack in the middle of it. She'd come over to the vending machine for a reason, but then the entire mission had totally slipped her mind. She wasn't usually the one who did the forgetting, so it was more than a little disconcerting.

Jessie

"Fuck-"
Goddesses-damnit.

Jessie leaned against the wall for a moment.
"Lali, remind me what the fuck I'm doing here. Because, I shit you not, I cannot fucking remember."

Yava
The thief sat there in stunned silence for a moment. She had to fight to keep her hands where they were, lest she provoke the crime boss even further. She was almost certain now that the woman was indeed a meister herself, speaking of an 'awful lot of coincidences to write off'. Those nails... well they probably were gems. Which meant she would have to weigh her options going forward even more carefully. Especially since Sola was now bloodied and in a panic.
"...Fine," Yava said, doing her best to hang onto her cool, "Yis, as you detect, we are meisters. And yis, we are not here... purely by coincidence. We saw necklaces several times since we arrived in city. Enough to recognize they are not just cheap trinkets, but something more. We eventually find street vendor who said she got one from some little hoodlum, probably thief or something trying to fence it. We figure why not use opportunity to investigate further, put curiosity to rest and maybe find business along way. We try several establishments before this one, bearing necklace out in open quite obviously like we see others doing before. This is first time it actually provoked response though."

Jessie

"You're supposed to be making contact with the target. Young girl with long hair?" Lali said, clearly confused, "She was right next to you for several minutes, but now she's heading north on Cavalad. Are you okay, Alice?"

The instant Lali said 'young girl,' Jessie remembered everything, it was almost as if she never forgot. Save for the fact that her target had gotten a huge head start on escaping.

Yava

"Finally, some honesty. I think I'll wait to believe you entirely, but I appreciate that you're trying." She waggled her fingers and one of the men grabbed her a napkin to clean her nails with. She made a display of the action, and seemed to revert to a much more affable attitude. The message was clear: Further lies would lead to further violence. "You say you were looking for business, I doubt I'm the partner you're interested in, but I'd still love to hear what you have to offer."

Something about Ambrosia was starting to nag at Yava. The woman's friendly neighborhood mobster act act had slipped a little, and Yava had seen a glimpse of the real person beneath. Alongside the expected not-so-friendly mobster, there was something else that didn't sit right. She just couldn't place what.

Monika

Despite the rather... Morbid description Kirari gave Monika, coupled with her classic creepy stare, the Major barely seemed to flinch. Yeah, it was creepier than normal, but Monika was used to Kira's oddness... Even though Kirari's was another matter entirely, "So, the question I have to ask you is this: Do you regret any of it, and more importantly, do you think you're the same 'Kirari Arceneaux' that you were all those years ago" she asked bluntly once the other girl was done speaking, still remaining in her relaxed position even as she tried to gauge what Kirari was actually thinking.

Astarte

As soon as the sword was thrusted towards her neck, Astarte tensed up, watching as the tip of the blade just barely stopped before piercing her throat. She kept still up until Nyna sheathed said blade, turning around and dismissing her from her duties, which finally let the Captain move again, quickly performing a short bow, "... As you wish Lady Nyna."

With that, Astarte turned around and swiftly left the kitchen, not stopping until she was out of the front door, which she made sure to close behind her. Outside, Astarte stood for a few moments, staring blankly into the horizon as she went through the events that had just occurred... Before angrily slamming her fist into one of the supporting pillars of the entrance, storming away from the house and back to her own office. That child infuriated her to no end, but she had at least done her duty. If Nyna refused to show herself on the battlefield, then that would be her problem.

In the meantime, Astarte had a war to prepare for.

Yava
"Well..." Yava began, pushing aside her growing unease for the time being to focus on the pitch... given it could well determine their survival, "Despite her looks, my friend here is great fighter when she has her weapon. Great enough that as you can see, she is not used to being one to receive blows, only give them out. Like greased lightning she is, could easily destroy whole swaths of opponents before they realize what is happening. Meanwhile, I have worked in property reconnaissance and extraction long before I even became meister. In fact, experience and skills gained from it are how I became meister in first place. With proper intel and preparation, I can exercise as much mayhem or discretion as required for job."

Kirari

"I don't know." She remained motionless, speaking to the air ahead. "I've been trying to figure that out." She let out a small sigh. "I was hoping you could help me." She didn't bother clarifying which question she meant; to Kirari, they were one and the same.

Quiet stretched out again, a pregnant silence allowing her thoughts to gestate. She began slowly, uncertain of her own words. "I think . . . I don't want to go back to doing that. I still want to do it, but it would hurt people I don't want to hurt."

"That's all the answers I have."

Yava

Ambrosia laughed in scorn. "Oh my, you certainly are something aren't you." she said, smiling wickedly, "If only you had even half an idea who you're dealing with. Someone like me has no need for meisters that have turned to petty crime."

"Someone... like you?" Sola managed to choke out between gasps.

Ambrosia smirked confidently. "You know I really shouldn't answer that, but since you asked so nicely..." She reached up to her left eye and carefully removed the contact that had matched it to her right. It left behind a pupil-less sphere covered in red and blue patterns and symbols.

Astarte

In her home county Astarte was a person of importance, but when it came to war she was much closer to the rank and file. She commanded all the forces of Hell, certainly, but she was still far removed from the true command stations held by the Ladies and Dames. Hell's militia had been assigned to set up camp along the border in Nyght, and scouts had reported a Katrian camp on the other side, no doubt preparing to attack come morning. Astarte had a dozen tanks at her disposal, likely a pittance relative to the Katrians, who would easily have thrice that. It would be pointless to try to match those numbers, there simply wasn't enough time between raising the militia and deployment to train more than a few new tank crews.

On the other hand, the two Ladies that had accompanied Astarte's legion were a blessing. For starters, neither of them was Nyna. Further, even if Katrian had brought a thousand meisters, they could never get away with sending out more than three or four, and a well-trained Lady was easily a match for any one Katrian meister. Sure they couldn't compare to the might of Dames, any of whom could deal with three Katrians single-handedly, but they were still a far cry about the mass-produced meisters that Katria pumped out.

Lady Hytay Mercurial was a close combat specialist wielding an Earth baton that would reliably crack just about anything.

Lady Gene of Kalasutra used a ball of Shadow to fight, Astarte didn't know what her weapon was that generated it. The Shadow she created weaved around her body at high speed, creating optical illusions all around her as it twisted and turned. Her weapon was apparently incapable of offense, but she'd found success in simply shooting her baffled foes.

Since neither was particularly well equipped to cross a battlefield, Tyran would most definitely be playing defense. Once a Katrian meister attacked, Astarte would pull her forces back and the meisters would take over. It was how all battles went, but that didn't mean she had no control. It was up to Astarte to minimize casualties among her troops and ensure that the battle didn't end before her side's meisters could engage at all. It was important, even if it was far from the glory of holy weapon combat.

Eilyth

Brigadier General Cara Donly looked like she wanted anything but to be awake at this late hour. A feeling Eilyth could surely understand. Eilyth and Cara had been able to strike up a decent working relationship, in no small part thanks to Leah already knowing the general quite well. Cara was a strict but hands off commander, so long as you stuck to the important rules, she didn't care much about the details. She was still a bit harder to deal with than Leah had been, but that was just the expectation when you moved up the ranks. It was Cara who had called Eilyth to the command tent at three in the morning, mostly likely to discuss the upcoming attack and what role Eilyth would be taking. She already knew her battalion would be taking point in the operation, but she'd received no instructions in regards to how she herself would be involved.

Yava
That... certainly explained how she could detect their statuses as meisters. And their elements. And it left Yava with no end of questions buzzing through her mind. She sat there for a long moment, staring at this woman, this walking, talking impossibility before her. And as she did, she felt the infinitesimal nature of this scenario wash over her like the crashing waves of high tide.
    "H-how...? How even...?"

Eilyth
Despite being ungodly early as it was, Eilyth had wasted little time in answering the summons. She figured General Donly wouldn't have called a meeting at such an hour if it wasn't urgent. Judging by how she looked like Eilyth felt when she arrived, that hunch was probably about to be proven correct. Which meant she was about to get thrown a curveball. Good thing she had stopped counting them long before she even met Amicus.

Yava

"Well, you see, there's this ceremony with a knife and marble. Very painful, I don't really want to talk about it." Ambrosia answered wryly, "Honestly, how dense are you? There's no reason for me to do business with women who are already meisters when my business is creating meisters." She had a contemplating look on her face as she flexed her fingers. Yava couldn't tell what Ambrosia was thinking, but it was clear that it wouldn't end well for the thief or her princess. "Honestly, I have no use for you at all, do I? Your luck must be pretty terrible for you to stumble right into my forge. You might have been able to lie your way out if you only had to deal with George here, no offense George."

George rolled his eyes, "None taken, ma'am. I would have let them go if you weren't here." He looked pretty amused, despite his participation in the conversation being even less than Sola's. It was apparent that he knew where Ambrosia was going.

"See?" Ambrosia continued, "Terrible luck. Getting worse by the moment. Last chance to spill everything. Maybe you'd like to share, Zippy?"

Sola had all but recovered for her shock, and was no longer giving the appearance of choking to death, although she was still bleeding quite a lot. "I'll make you a counter offer." she said as calmly as she could muster, "Let us go and I won't turn you into mincemeat."

Ambrosja burst out laughing. "You're quite the piece of work, aren't you? I can appreciate a woman with spunk, if not wisdom."

Yava might have thought the situation was deteriorating further, but Sola caught her eye. There was something new there, something distinct from the cheerful and naive princess Yava had been getting to know. It might have been a trick of the light, had Yava not seen the briefest glimpse of it once before, when Sola ruthlessly dismembered Nyna Thallus.
