Eilyth
"E...Eilyth," She answered. There was much to be asked here, nothing made sense. Yet things were already becoming too much. She couldn't stay here much longer, her instincts told her that much. The base, reptilian part of her brain practically begged her to hurry up and get the hell out of there. She figured the best way to do that was to just follow the vague instructions Leah had given her when she sent her to meet this... this... thing.
"I...don't know what service you mean, but... here," She said, offering Leah's disc to the empty void "Leah told me to give you this. Said you'd know what to do with it."

Eilyth

The eternal darkness shook its head. "ApoloGies laDy eilYth, that Has noThing to dO with me." The water Eilyth was swimming in seemed to constrict and speaking became difficult. "You had best be going, ma'am. It wa sa pl ea su re to me et yo u."

Eilyth
"Wait, wha-" The question was cut off by the sudden realization that she was submersed. Not even focusing on her pain and rage could help her now. The pervasive madness of this realm combined with her own primal fear and finally crashed down upon her like a tidal wave. She screamed in equal measures rage and terror, breath heaving, arms thrashing against currents she had never learned how to tread because she had vowed to never venture into their power again. With all the might she could muster, she fought and clawed her way towards the exit that had disappeared. Or any exit. Eilyth didn't really care anymore, she just wanted out of this realm, out of this water, away from whatever this thing was. She had to get back to her own reality, get back to Amicus, and mom, and Leah, and Bridgette, and even Patricia. As the madness crept further her thoughts of home began to turn obsessive, and she clung to them like a raft amidst the growing storm of her own panic, using them as further foci to try and find whatever passage would remove her from this dark hellscape. Find it before she died of the terror that seized her tighter and tighter with every moment she stayed immersed in this invisible ocean... or simply slipped under its waves and drowned, just as she had all those years ago.

Eilyth opened the door to the backstage room, still shaken. It was a well-lit, cozy little lounge that made running the sound systems nice and comfortable during long services. There was a woman there that Eilyth vaguely recognized as one of the techies from Leah's company, although she didn't know her name. The woman was pretty invested in fiddling with the soundboard and hadn't noticed Eilyth's entry.

Yava

Sola looked a bit startled when Yava spoke to her, but quickly regained her composure. "Always." she said, "My butler, Horacio, always dines with me." Sola sounded legitimately confident, as if dining with a servant was a perfectly normal thing. It might have been false confidence put on in an attempt to deflect from her awkwardness, but Yava got the much sadder impression that it was legitimate.

Monika

As soon as Marionette switched her focus back to Verna, Monika allowed herself to land, skidding across the ground with locked knees before coming to a stop. Now that she had some distance, she could try one last trick to stall Marionette, at the cost of leaving her defenseless to anything that came at her. Namely the monster she was currently trying to slow down. Regardless, Monika brought up her free hand, using it to help with her aim as she flipped the grip of her halberd, lifting it to her shoulder like a javelin. She'd have one chance to get this right, and at most it would only slow Marionette for mere moments, even if she hit.

Shortly after, Monika narrowed her eyes, focusing on her target and quickly going through the calculations needed to hit Marionette from where she stood. Once she did so, the Major pulled her arm back, before letting her halberd fly, twisting her body and firing off a blast of heat from her hand just before it left her contact, launching the Holy Weapon at incredible speeds at her chosen target.

Yava
"Oh, I see..." Yava said. Looked like her hunch might've been right. Still, pursuing a likely forgone line of questions was better than sitting in awkward silence. That, and she honestly felt kinda sorry for Sola, in a way. "But, what about friends? You surely ate with friends too, sometimes, yis?"

Eilyth
She collapsed to the floor on her hands and knees, gasping for breath. She reached a hand up to her neck to find Amicus there, immediately stroking his head as she had wanted to in the nightmare, and breathing a heavy sigh of relief. The squirming tug she felt in response was an obvious sign of worry, but in all honesty Eilyth didn't think she could explain half of what she'd seen after they were parted if she wanted to. Her mind still raced with the ebbing fear of an infinite, pitch black, all consuming ocean and the mysterious voice that apparently resided over the realm that had spawned it. Several times in the span of a few moments, she had to remind herself that no, she was not soaked, nor was she submerged, to avoid from emptying the contents of her stomach onto the floor. Finally the worst of it seemed to pass as her mind came to grips with the fact that it was back in her familiar reality, and on dry land. That it was safe again... as safe as you could be in this world, but even still infinitely more safe than... than that place. Looking around, she forced herself up and to her feet, wiping away the cold sweat of terror. She was still haggard, but she forced herself to re-center, to adopt the neutral mask she had spent the past two months crafting. The one that came out when someone did or said something that broke through the PR mask and threatened to reveal the turbulent maelstrom just beneath. Satisfied that she had at least contained her state to a half-passable level, she walked over to the techie.

"You... must be that friend Leah was talking about," She said, holding out the disc. The same one Cath-Helel had refused. She felt her skin itch just from holding on to it at this point, but didn't let it change her expression. "She... said to give you this. That you'd know what to do with it."

Verna

Monika's blazing halberd sped through the air at blistering speed. Marionette was quick enough to spin and face the attack, but not enough to dodge. With explosive force, the halberd tore into the beast, blasting a massive hole in Marionette's stolen torso. If the monster could feel, it was certainly in shock. Verna smiled, this was her chance.

{verna goes for heads theme}

Before Marionette had time to turn around again, Verna charged. The monster had no trouble deflecting Verna's ranged attacks, if Verna wanted to kill her, there was only one thing she could do. With a cry of determination, Verna shoved her ball directly for Marionette's head, igniting its power. Her power wasn't designed to be lenient, even without activating its pain canceling effect, it still refused to go easy on her. She hated that, it made fighting like this hurt so much. But this time she didn't care how much it hurt. She was full of hate, causing it to scorch her arms and hands violently. But so too did it scorch Marionette. And with the force of Verna's arms behind it, the ball was just strong enough to destroy a decent chunk of Marionette's head.

But Marionette didn't fall.

The Flesh Knitters lashed out violently towards the now-defenseless Verna, within an instant taking off a chunk of her face. The murderess screamed, already at her limit for pain after making such a risky attack. She tried to activate her pain canceling, but it was too late, the pain was simply too much for her to exert that much control. And so when Marionette also dug into her chest, she felt every prick, stab, and tear. Her body was rapidly dissembled at a rate far too fast for her brain to process, all she could understand was that she was in complete agony. Perhaps that would be all she would feel for the rest of her life, if it didn't end here.

She had promised Kirari she would kill the monster, but she failed. Worse, she was failing Kirari's one request. She was going to die. She wanted to apologize, but she wasn't even sure she had a mouth left to apologize with. It was hard to say if she was even Verna Hembrite anymore, the needles were consuming more than just her body. They were eating at her very soul, commanding what were once parts of her to join them. She wanted to resist, to fight on and return to Kirari alive, but she wasn't any good at resisting. Throughout her life, Verna had always been a slave to others. Spending time with Doc and Kira had been a nice distraction, she was sad to see it coming to an end.

After mere seconds, most of the front of Verna's torso was gone, exposing her innards. Several ribs had been stolen by the needles, and she was missing at least a few chunks of organ. It was a miracle that she had managed to stay alive, and Marionette wasn't about to let her continue. One of the needles set its sights on her heart, planning to take it for the beast. Verna's eye saw its path, and something in her pushed. She had nothing left to fight with. She fought anyway. Verna's ball intercepted the needle, knocking it aside and saving her life.

"Not bad."

Marionette was suddenly flung away from Verna at a blinding speed, smashing into a nearby wall with a sickening crunch. Verna was only just conscious enough to see a nude angel float down next to her, catching her before she fell to the ground.

Beyond Verna's perception, Marionette turned her broken neck to face Monika. Her face was a mangled mess, with only a single pristine purple eye seeming to carry any real expression. An expression of contempt. And then she fled, leaving Monika to clean up the horrible mess she had created.

Monika

Surprising even herself, her halberd managed to connect with its target, almost bisecting Marionette as it flew through and impaled itself into the ground, far from the grip of its normal wielder. For a moment, it seemed like they would successfully stall her out, cutting her from her supply of flesh and allowing backup to arrive. At least before Verna chose to charge her, wanting to take advantage of Monika's opening and finish the monster once and for all.

"Verna, wait!" Monika called out, a moment too late as she watched Kira's friend/date charge towards the monster, attempting to put it down for good with a blinding flash of her own power. But it didn't work, and soon enough Monika was forced to watch Marionette quickly begin claiming yet another victim, using Verna to restore her own stolen body. Without her halberd though, the Major could do nothing but witness, resigning to her fate of having to add another to the list of individuals she failed to help.

... Until woman, completely nude, suddenly appeared and caused Marionette to suddenly fly into a wall, catching the falling Verna at the same time. Despite her distance, Monika could also notice the look Marionette give her before they ran off. A look of contempt, one birthed from the fact that Monika had thrown her own weapon and nearly tore her in half. In a way, that itself was worrying, seeing as she was now a direct thorn in the side of one the most dangerous individuals on the planet, but Monika didn't dwell on that fact for more than a second. Instead, with Marionette leaving the stage, Monika instead chose to run towards Verna, ignoring the situation and lingering panic around her to focusing on the individual who fought with her, and the one who came at the end to assist,

"Nerys' ass, it's even worse up close" Monika muttered as she approached the two, kneeling down to examine Verna without a single flinch from the sight of her injuries, flicking her eyes towards the woman who had knocked Marionette aside, "I'd ask if you had a method of healing, but I highly doubt that you do. Regardless, thank you for the help, miss..?" Monika continued, moving her gaze at the area that surrounded them. She cursed the fact that she couldn't use her position's weight to get a medical professional on site at this moment. When it came down to it, she was a fighter, not a doctor.

Monika

"I'm dead people." the nudist replied calmly. She glanced down at Verna, who seemed to be barely clinging to life. "There is naught to done for the maddened one, her wellbeing is up to her own. Freedom arrives with haste."

'Dead People' beckoned for Monika to follow as she fled back the way she'd came.

"No objections, ma'am."

Jessie

Jessie took a moment to breathe, and think.
This was a job where they were going to kidnap a child.
A child.
But... it was also a job. Someone was paying to make it happen.
Which meant that it was going to happen, whether or not she personally approved of it. It may not be by anybody she knew - heh, "knew", as if she could assume she really knew anybody, with nobody knowing her - it could be complete strangers that did it, but it would get done.
At least if she did it, if she took the job, she could make sure it was done mercifully.
"I'm in."

Monika

As expected, Monika gave the so-called "dead people" a confused look, one that persisted even after they ran off, presumably from the way she came, leaving Monika with Verna's fallen form. For a brief moment, Monika simply watched her run away, only to shift her gaze back to Verna, placing a closed fist on her chest, "May your recovery be swift. You've earned that much, Verna" Monika stated to the 'maddened one'. Then, rising to her feet, Monika swiftly made a detour to retrieve her Holy Weapon, the halberd finally beginning to return to its natural white gleam after being superheated for so long. Nevertheless, despite the force that lodged it into the ground to begin with, Monika easily tore it from the earth, only to turn around and run after the woman who had dealt the finishing blow to Marionette.

After all, 'freedom' was something Monika would be hard pressed to pass up.

Jessie

Neridus had no shortage of metropolises, but Merf was another beast entirely. It wasn't the largest city, in fact it was rather middling in regards to sheer size. Yet it was by far the most crowded. This was due in its entirety to the the sheer density of buildings. Each and every street in the city was edged by a forest of buildings that reach up into the sky, forcing the inhabitants to squeeze into spaces far too small for their number. Crowds of pedestrians swarmed roads that were meant for cars once, before the traffic became so bad that it became faster to walk.

Somewhere in those crowds was Jessie's target. A target that would be impossible to find were it not for Lali feeding her regular updates on the little girl's location. How Lali could find the girl in the crowds was a question best left for the goddesses. However she was doing it, it was going to make Jessie's life a lot easier. All she had to do was intercept the girl and convince her to come along. Once she'd extracted the little one, she'd pass the escort off to Hellia and join Mack in watching for trouble.

Thanks to her weapon, getting to the girl would be easy. It might be impossible to hide herself from everyone in a crowd like this, but there was no way any individual person could keep track of her for more than a few seconds. Convincing the girl to follow would be harder, but Hellia had given her a gadget to use if verbal persuasion failed. It looked just like one of the packs of gum the boss carried at all times, but Hellia assured her that it would function as a powerful sedative. Drugging a young girl in broad daylight was bound to cause a scene, so it was a last resort option.

"She's at Marta and Cavalad, ETA three minutes." Lali's voice came from the small pin Jessie was holding. Another of Hellia's toys, it was actually a long-range radio. All members of the team had been provided one to ensure they could easily keep in contact throughout the mission.

Eilyth

The techie nodded, taking the disc. "Hether." she introduced herself curtly. Clearly not one to talk, Hether immediately went back to her fiddling, leaving Eilyth to squirm in silence as thoughts of Cath-Helel's horrid fear world ate at the edges of her mind.

Despite her sense of unease and the presence of her family, it was hard for even Eilyth to be unhappy when the wedding finally started. Leah and Brigitte were a genuinely happy pair and the atmosphere around them reflected that. Also, at least three of Eilyth's sisters were clearly upset that they weren't given the role of Beloved.

A role which Eilyth had to consider deeply when the time finally came. A dramatic display was out of the question, but during the cheek kiss she might have just enough time for one question. One question that might change everything, depending on what she asked.

Monika and Kirari

Monika followed the strange woman back to her car where Kirari was waiting. "Dead people" evidently didn't have any sense of shame, as she made no attempt to hide herself until reaching the car. She did get in the trunk to retrieve some spare clothes while Monika climbed in the back seat, for the first time giving the two a chance to talk since their imprisonment began.

Yava

Sola tried to hide it, but she had clearly caught on to why Yava was following this line of questioning. "C-certainly." she said with much less confidence than before, "But it is, um, infrequent. I am a very busy woman."

Yava might have wanted to press her new boss/friend for more information, but her chance for small talk was cut short when an employee came directly over to them. "I see you are two finely cultured women. Do you have any interest in birds?" It was a bizarre question asked in a bizarre circumstance, and neither Yava nor Sola knew exactly how to respond.

Astarte

Nyna slammed the door as she entered the house. It was the size of a small mansion and largely empty, so the sound echoed through the entire building. The captain of the guard had been waiting for the Lady to return, but likely wished she hadn't.

Astarte and Nyna had never been on good terms. The captain had been on course to be elected the Lady of Hell before Nyna swooped in with her sob story and stole the aristocracy's hearts. Now Astarte was stuck serving under a temperamental child who wouldn't hesitate to execute her for talking back. It was a wonder she hadn't already lost an arm or something.

Given that Nyna was already in a foul mood, the news Astarte had brought was probably not going to be well received. And that didn't bode well for Astarte's continued health. Nyna enjoyed lording herself over the peasantry, feeding her sadistic desires with their fear. War wasn't her style, wanton killing, no matter how cruelly done, would never satisfy Nyna nearly as much as creating a state of constant fear around her.

But regardless of what Nyna wanted, Astarte had a duty to fulfill. Tyran didn't have a standing army, at least not in the traditional sense. The more democratic states might have a small contingent kept in reserve, but even they had to raise a militia in times like these. The counties in Vyne all had a small guard that served as border protection against neighboring counties--although among the feudal states, Vyne was by far the most peaceful--and took the lead during times of war. Each county was expected to raise between five-thousand and ten-thousand troops, most of whom would be men. To help streamline the process, there was a reserve list of those who were committed to joining the militia should the call go out, and thanks to frequent clashes with Katria Hell's reserve list easily met the five-thousand mark. This would be the first time that Tyran had gone to war since Astarte had become captain, and thus the first time she had command of more than her two-hundred-odd guards. It was an impressive responsibility, assuming she lived long enough to get Nyna's approval to raise the militia.

Kirari

A conflicted mix of emotions rose once again as Monika clambered into the vehicle with her. Relief, fear, joy, and dread all intermingled in a mix that made her stomach turn over itself. "You're alive," she said, in a near-monotone, the maelstrom failing to disturb the glassy surface of her face. Caring for people is. . . difficult. She opened her mouth again to speak, and found she had no idea what to say. Simultaneously, she wanted to thank her for being a friend, warn her of the unpleasantness of what Kirari was about to tell her, admit that terrible fact, and ask about the fates of Verna and Doc.

Instead of doing any of those things, though, Kirari acted on an urge. A sudden instinct, coming from some inexplicable place deep within, and gratified as she so often had done before. Without warning, the woman lunged across the seat. . . and wrapped her arms about Monika in a hug. "You're alive," she repeated, tone identical to the previous iteration save for it coming out in barely a whisper.

Astarte

As soon as she saw the door open, Astarte a deep breath that she didn't realize she was holding. Truth be told, she was dreading this moment, having to break the news to Nyna that they would be organizing for war. The two never truly got along, too much bad blood between them after Nyna stole Astarte's rightful spot as Lady, but the captain knew how Nyna operated. She simply enjoyed lording over those below her, ensuring an image of fear that surpassed her seemingly frail and weak appearance... Which would be respectful if not for how atrocious she could be. Still, Nyna would naturally despise the concept of war, being forced to fight others on equal footing instead of lording her strength over others.

But, Astarte was one who followed orders, and Nyna would have to accept this news whether she liked it or not. After all, it came from a higher position than she, and if she had to be forced into doing it, chances are she'd be forced to.

"Rough day I presume?" the captain began, pushing herself off of the wall she was leaning on as Nyna entered the house. Better to begin lightly, seeing as Nyna was not in the best of news... Which would make her job so much more easier.

Monika

For her part, Monika was oddly respectful towards the so called "dead people", keeping her gaze averted for their sake, even if they themselves didn't bother to hide. Granted, she did take a few moments to scan her over before doing so, the gesture existed nonetheless. Regardless, the fact that "dead people" was without cover was nothing compared to what came once Monika opened the door to the car, seeing her assistant/friend Kira-or rather, Kirari- sitting inside. Offering the other girl a smile, Monika slide into the car, closing the door and resting her halberd on the shoulder facing it, leaving her open to look at Kirari as the other girl made note of her survival,

"Well, you did tell me not to die, so I had a promise to keep. I couldn't just leave you to-" Monika began in response, seemingly waving off Kira's worry before being abruptly cut off by the later practically tackled her, wrapping herself around Monika and whispering out the same line she said before, as if in disbelief that she had survived. For a moment, Monika was... Somewhat confused, mostly out of shock that Kirari, the same girl who always had a hard time showing her emotions, would be the one to initiate a hug like this. But, after that moment, Monika bent over to hug Kirari as well, one hand placed on the back of her head whilst the other went around Kirari's shoulder, "Yeah, I am. And I'm glad you are too."
