Utugar was saddened by the betrayal and loss of his beloved vassal-consort Eater, disappointed at Soon's betrothal to the Divamond Dragon falling through, covetous of the local Acter instance for his lost matchmaking authority as a result of this and other matches failing, jealous of the blood sacrifices being offered to malevolent beings other than Utugar, and dismayed to see his great gift of sandywood squandered by the Seals. The latter's impact on navigation was undeniable and, because it involved a personal creation of Utugar in living memory, infinitely more pressing. Thus did Utugar decree the birth of the Morakhan(u), docile giant scarabs to serve as beasts of burden (and perhaps food) for the Seals. Utugar will scatter Morakhanu here and there and leave them to organize into herds on their own time.

Utugar gave the Morakhanu a weak migratory instinct such that wild specimens would spend part of the year rolling great balls of rock, dirt, sandywood, composting vegetation, and other food to one of their many breeding grounds and part of the year traveling back to their preferred feeding grounds. Their means of navigation is as yet uncharacterized but may be related to Sky-Roads, staying on well-worn tracks, scent trails, or something else entirely but doesn't appear to depend on astronomical beacons in general. Of course, tamed Morakhanu are a different story entirely, and the wily Seal can easily override their migratory instinct and herd them together or drive them toward more useful locations.

Utugar also blessed the Morakhanu with exoskeletons of stone incorporated from their diet; no doubt the wealthiest Seals would go out of their way to feed their Seals gems and precious stones to improve their appearance and thus make them more regal mobile daises. Their exoskeletons also conveniently naturally grew into fine saddles for Seals.

FinallyNext, Utugar will work to create a most resplendent throne to offer to the most cunning Seal. The part about it being for the most cunning Seal and a rumor about the most cunning Seal being given a divine right to rule over all Seals will be "accidentally" leaked to local gossips.

Feeling inspired (and belatedly realizing multiple decrees could be issued in a cycle), Utugar wondered what to do about his disobedient smith and crown jewel. He created a crude deck of fortune-telly tarot cards and played Go Fish with his current marriage counselor.

"8."
"Go fish, my Liege."
"The Tower. Hmm. Tower, 8, I, I, 8, Tower. Hmm. 8th plague?"

Utugar pointed to a nearby sandywood tree and smote it with lightning. From its vitrified bark emerged a swarm of Thermites, rock-based termite-like creatures of corrosion and flame that seek out, corrode, consume, and burn metal leaving naught but dust, slag, and ash in their wake. While even boring, unreactive metals like gold will satisfy their hunger, they preferentially eat ferrous metals including the devil-metal nickel and smelly kobold-dropping cobalt. Their volatile emissions can propel these cute little critters through the void with all the mutagenic risk that implies as a result of Utugar's rebelliously shiny crown jewel.

Like the decaying sandywood tree from whose petrified bark they are derived, the twtwisty passages their tunnels form are strange and hidden mystic sigils. Owing to the trauma of their smiting-birth, these tend to be sigils of slumber. It surely won't affect anything important given that planets aren't sapient.

Like their lesser namesakes, Thermites do not die gracefully. On death, they can ignite their organs and their contents with fiery results. Although the amount of heat released isn't terribly much on an indiviual basis, the temperature of the resulting flame can easily melt even the purest iron.

Unlike their organic brethren, Thermites are facultatively solitary and can thrive even if separated from their colonies. In the absence of queen-caste pheromones, isolated workers will sporadically become fertile and occasionally male, and as with all arthropod royalty, will fashion and occupy tiny thrones. (The pest control industry will surely thank Utugar for the neverending business. Luckily, Thermites prefer airless environments for some handwavy reason involving them preferring not to have the atmosphere preoxidize and/or peroxidize their meals.)

Summary: Use a decree to create a plague of metal-eating space termites and unleash them on the ether!

"A King, my Liege?"
"That I am, thankyoufornoticing."
"Erm, 10?"
"Go fish."

Utugar cheated gazed upon his counselor's card and saw that it was the Empress. To memorialize his (short and intrigue-filled) marriage with Eater, Utugar creates the Dragonfly, a fire-breathing predatory insect rivaling the Dragons in beauty. Owing to Utugar's regrettably arthropod-centric understanding of anatomy, these flying dragons differ from Dragons in the following ways:
  • Dragonflies have bulging eyes
  • Dragonflies have an extra pair of wings
  • Dragonflies have an extra pair of legs
  • Juvenile dragonflies are wingless and aquatic
  • Dragonflies are cold-blooded and thus look cool when they hover
  • Dragonflies aren't sapient
  • Dragonflies rarely live longer than a few years
  • Dragonflies grow no longer than about 6m(/yd)
  • Dragonflies can't topple and eat civilization even in aggregate
  • Dragonflies are known to be delicious. Yum!
Utugar marvels at their graceful forms as they hunt down and feed on unwitting Seals just as his dearly departed consort did. In time, they may make excellent mounts for the flightless Seals, but for now, they're free to inspire the Seals to organize/fight more effectively. Under no circumstances is Soon to be betrothed to a Dragonfly.

Summary: Use a decree to create Dragonflies, echoes of the Ruinous Dragons.

Suspecting that he has finally run out of taking-hands, Utugar takes out a giving-hand and greatly enhances the fertility and health of the most monolatristic Utugar-worshipers and throne-glorifiers.

Summary: Use a decree to apply positive selection to the Seals on the off chance that faith in Utugar and thrones is somehow heritable.

With inspiration and surplus decrees finally subsiding, there is little now but silence in Utugar's cozy corner of the universe. Utugar idly cobbles some spare parts together to make the Bat, yet another insect for his collection. With strong back legs, a good singing pair of wings, powerful tympanic membranes, and a finely honed sense of awkwardness to top it all off, they will endeavor to fill the silence with their lusty chirping. Such is the power of their heartfelt serenades that not even vacuum itself can stop it. Bats enjoy eating rotting/fermenting organic matter (especially tumbleweeds), but most anything unwanted and small enough will do. From Seals to Thermites to Dragonflies, most creatures find Bats to be tasty, nutritious morsels. Once in a while, the more farming-prone Thermite colonies may start Bat farms in their colonies for food. The Bats benefit from their care and propagation and aren't quite self-aware enough to rebel anyway. With the illegal No-Flesh Law in place outside, Utugar privately wonders how much louder metallized Bats will be, but it's all in the hundred hands of fate now.

Summary: Use a decree to create the Bats. Their primary purpose is to fill awkward silences with chirping. Even in space. *chirp chirp chirp* Yes, it is a known issue that Utugar has yet to create ants, bees, or wasps, which are more directly tied to royalty.

And so Coruxion the Dragon of Spirit was defeated by the combined efforts of the rebelling Dragons, putting an end to its ambition of ascending into a single being of ruin and destruction. Betrayed by its own Remnants, defeated by a godchild of questionable intelligence, finally was Coruxion's power was broken and the world saved from its ruinous ambitions.

First did Coruxion lose its body to the Crystal Sphere.
Second did Coruxion split its power into Twelve parts.
And now, Coruxion will split its soul into Thirteen parts.

Were these successive descents punishment inflicted on the Crystal God, or stepping stones belonging to a greater plan brewed by the Crystal God? Was this defeat truly one?

"Nay."

Did the voice answer.

"By shedding its Resplendence, Coruxion was able to become part of the world.
By splitting its Radiance, Coruxion was able to see what is hidden to those blinded by power.
And now, by splitting its Shine, Coruxion is able to understand what it couldn't in omniscience.
From the loss, something was earned."

Descent:
In its agony, Coruxion managed to split its soul into 12 parts which were hidden within 12 Greater Imps. No longer imperfect, these twelve are perfected, ideal imps, and are called the Ruinous.
As for its essence, it infused the Imperfects to seed into them the spark of the Ruinous Civilization.
Sphere: Gems
In its descent a 13th soul is created, one far different from the 12 others. The Refined, last of the Ruinous.

As soon as Coruxion was split, the 13 were bound by soul and gained the Dragon's memories, understanding everything it implied.
Immediately a vicious fight of survival ensued, as each attempted to devour the others. Of the 13, only 4 survived in the end.

Exilat the Betrayed, the Ruinous who inherited Coruxion's parting rage. He managed to eat five other Ruinous: the Arrogant, the Furious, the Cruel, the Relentless, and the Ambitious.
Vejon the Devourer, the Ruinous who inherited Coruxion's drive to become whole. He managed to eat the Greedy.
Iurai the Contemptous, the Ruinous who inherited Coruxion's contempt for the lesser. He managed to eat the Vicious.
Ocarl the Watcher, the Ruinous who inherited Coruxion's insights. He managed to eat one Ruinous: the Vain.
Anacros the Refined, the most strange of the Ruinous, having inherited the new soul of Coruxion.

The five of them are Coruxion, and they are also not Coruxion. They are unable to use Coruxion's divine powers, even though Coruxion can manifest itself through them. While separate individuals, they are linked by their souls. Always connected, they cannot hide from each others, and can feel each others strong emotions and thoughts.
Known as the Ruinous Five, they are able to refine the soul and body of other Imps, turning them into Ruined. Superior in body and spirit to the other Imps, these will become the building blocks of the future Ruinous Civilization.

Quote
Name: The Ruinous Civilization
Heavenly Tier: Pearlescent Patron
Sphere: Crystal, Truth
Description: Within each Imp lies dormant the cycle of Ruin. Imps will understand order, and organize under the natural hierarchy of the Ruinous, the Greater Imps, and the Imps themselves. They will work together and against themselves and future civilizations in order to prosper, and destroy, and prosper again in what is known as the cycle of Ruin.

Each iteration of the Ruinous Civilization will build up toward an apex of prosperity, after which it will inevitably be destroyed and remade by its own hands into a new civilization due to the essence of Coruxion. To go against this creed would mean no longer belonging to the Ruinous Civilization, and thus losing the blessing of the spheres.

The Ruinous Civilization is driven to expand and cover the entire worlds with endless crystal fields, and destroy any civilization not falling under the creed of Ruin.

Name: The Ruinous Five
Heavenly Tier: Shining Spirit Remnant
Sphere: Crystal, Gems
Description: Greater Imps with perfect bodies of shining crystal. They were once thirteen, but eight were killed and devoured by their peers. The current ones are:

Powers:
- Ruined Refinement: the Ruinous are able to refine the soul and body of other Imps, turning them into Ruined.
- Crystalline Dominion: the Ruinous are able to control all forms of crystals, to varying degrees.

Taking advantage of the bizareness of the world's structure, each Ruinous cross unseen paths with their respective following of Imps with the intent to settle in each crystalline region of the worlds.

Decree: the Gift of Crystalworking
The Ruinous Civilization is taught the art of Crystalworking, allowing one to shape and alter the properties of crystals in order to create tools, crafts, useful stuff, useless stuff, and silly ornaments. Crystalworking can only be done by Imperfects/Ruined/Ruinous/etc and their offspring, or beings having managed to imitate the crystal abilities of the Imps.

Decree: the Palace of the Betrayed
To reward Exilat, Coruxion erects a crystal fortress where Exilat chooses to create its capital.

Working: Gratuitous Killing of Baby Seals
For the sake of it, Coruxion clubs thousands of baby seals with imaginary cudgels, causing them to die a gruesome bashed death. This would have caused much woe if there existed any civilization to care about it.

-----------------

The Cycle of Ruin

Within each Imp is seeded the spark of the cycle of Ruin. This spark may cause them to gather and seek to build together the Ruinous Civilization, under the guidance of the Ruinous Five. Its birth and construction will surely not be peaceful, as violence and competition are part of the cycle of Ruin.

The god of trade, for which names flow like water, have found at last one fitting for themselves, "She of Roads", no name more fitting could be found, and so they decided to embed this name into their being, Decree: Embed the name "She of roads" into their being, their constellation and all that is them.

Quote from: The Crystal Sphere (All Praise)
Seals begin to make strange cloaks of woven inkstone, which allows them to move freely under the rays of the mutagenic Sun-Shell, though the Sun-Children still hate and attempt to devour them, but are being slowly pushed back from an unstoppable terror into a stubborn irritant of the sun-kissed lands. Strange thrones and buildings of Cloud and Ink spring up close to deposits of such as tribes settle in, but so far the effects of these divine materials has been largely limited, perhaps by the imagination of the seals or their lack of trading routes.

"Oh, those poor mortals, isolated in their villages where there stand an entire universe to see, this cannot stand any longer"

Working: carve for the seals great terrestrial and celestial roads between their villages and into the sky roads

"They grow up and slay their betters so fast, don't they?

Now that it's just us, we should get to know each other better. And judge each other! Yes, this seems like the best course of action."

Working: Honeymoon with Infinite Mirrors, getting to know and measure her better. If we are truly well matched, produce (or intend to produce) another beautiful child. If not, (plan to) leave her for a younger moon.

AWE was quiet for a time, composing itself and looking deep into their memories, the lost sparks of the divine aeons, and the worlds above and below. It had watched from a distance, as the thing that was of Crystals fought against the others of Crystal and was beaten back by them. They knew them as Dragons, so did the memories say. AWE considered their goal; Ruin of Civilisation. That of course, required the existence of Civilisation.

It also considered their opposites, the Phoenixes. Already, the Phoenix of Hope and the Dragon of Blood were known to it and had been paired by AWE's authority. It also considered the primitive Djinni, and how one had risen to heroism even before the rise of true civilisation. It considered these things and facts and figures and more. Soon, it thought of a thesis work.

1 Working: AWE matchmakes the wingless dragon of Pride and its opposite, Phoenix of Nobility. AWE of course, first ensures that the Phoenix hatches and cares for it in its first few weeks of life, hopefully imprinting itself on the birb and making its matchmaking more successful.

1 Decree: Create Aeroplanes. Asbestoid life that vaguely resembles the offspring of phoenixes and dragons, Aeroplanes are the size of an average dragon or phoenix and fly by magic. They breed in a manner similar to panels. Aeroplanes have a hollow compartment in their torso that can be used as a pouch or berth by riders. They feed upon heat and asbestos. They are amendable to domestication and love a good nuzzle or petting.

1 Decree: Modify the Djinn who chant the hardest. These, AWE rewards for their hope and safekeeping of the carpets. AWE grants them eyes much like their own, glowing with Hope. Threads of their body become like-gold, shimmering in the light to mark their new status. Not only cosmetic, these gold-like threads grant them auras of Hope, so that all who are around them feel of their emotions and of their beliefs. In this way, others are more inclined to follow them, obey them, serve them or be devoured or tamed by them. These Djinni AWE grants the name of Emir Djinn and fixes upon their minds the following statement : "They who did make you and did test you make notice of your hope, and do bless you and your descendants. Know that your line, though not like the number of moons and stars in the sky, will be blessed by that which did propose you."

6:24 Yet with the conclusion of the victory of dragon and hero, Ferrous did set His attention to other troubles of the realm. 6:25 And He did consider the unsightly 'egg', the 'Ovum Lux', which did so mar His sight, which rejected the blessing of Metal, which locked many mortals away from His sight. 6:26 Mortals of flesh, it was true, but see how they wielded Weapons of His design to protect themselves, how they did know true superiority, even if they were forbidden from touching it themselves!
6:27 And with that thought, Ferrous' pride was struck - how dare the fool Levis deny these mortals His gift and blessing? How dare they deny Him access to those who needed Him? 6:28 And in His righteous anger, Ferrous did approach the 'egg' and tear into it, cracking it, breaking it, grinding it down. 6:29 A great working, even for one such as Ferrous, but one He was well-prepared to undertake.
6:30 But of course, these materials should not go to waste, and so did Ferrous take from upon His surface great quantities of Gold, and melted them down. 6:31 And Ferrous took the dust of the 'egg' - sundust and crownstuff in minute shards - and mixed it into His Gold. 6:32 And when the new Metal was ready, Ferrous took it from his Crucible, and it shined a true reflection of His glory; He did see it was good. 6:33 This, He declared Coronite, the Metal of radiance and regality, purified of the twisting nature of Levis' light, and He did spread it across His Surface as a boon to those who might prove themselves deserving.

Decree: Create various other aquatic plants to fill the oceans

Descend, taking the form of a jellyfish with kelp tentacles and a glowing top, leaving behind the Litfish, sentient creatures that look like glowing fish of various types with tentacles. The eggs remain inside the female until they hatch then exit. Young Litfish will stay with their mother until they are old enough to have children, at which point they will spread out in search of mates. Litfish are omnivorous. When one dies, their memories are transferred to the nearest Litfish

OOC, Recruitment open!
Spoiler: transparent (click to show/hide)

Cycle 6
And so the sages said
Remember
There is always a bigger fish

The Celestial Nobility
Quote from: Ferrous
6:1 Ferrous did hear the words of dragon and phoenix, as they did appeal to His oaths.

6:3 And then, He did laugh. It was a loud thing, a booming thing, a laugh - a Laugh - truly deserving of one so noble as He.
6:4 The Laugh sounded like a million Bells chiming, a thousand Ingots set upon the Anvil to be smithed.

Hostages were freed from great net, and all bowed before liege, given title of Metal Duke. Two most fortunate, Corux of Gold and Eater of Silver, gained blade and net. But these resplendant artifacts were difficult even for these greatest of monsters to wield. Peehaps they would in time grow proficient in them, and be mighty foe to those they oppose.

Sacred vow was sworn by Metal Nobility to protect their liege of metal, for that is principle. Notability, no vows mention the protection of civilization or non-metal, such as the Djinni or un-metallized Seals.

Many words and plans and responses spoken, but Ferrous struggles to hear buzzing of gnat.

The Second Precept approaches the gathered upper crust, and tries to suggest a fitting match, yet is rebuffed by the gathered, who see no reason to let a commoner dictate their romances.

Five Dragon Dukes, judging Ferrous to be unthreatened by anything, depart to hunt their predecessor who calls for them still.

The Noble Duchess of Iron follows, for is not the place of the Noble amongst other nobles?

The Hopeful Duchess of Aluminum remains on Ferrous to foster hope among the Djinni.

Deathly Duke of Lead and Analyctic Duke of Nickel remain on Ferrous, aiding Too-Many-Questions in wiping out the Imperfects who seek to mar Metal with crystal.

One Duke heads to an insignificant place, laden with fine djinni crafts to pose a betrothal.

The Duke of Tin, who sees eternity, departs along sky-road to the Peach of Moon, where his eye sees what others cannot, kindred spirits who see much. Perhaps they can understand his mutterings, and pen them upon lotuspod into form most clear.

Discordant slaten screeching causes one of your Dukes to grow traitorous.

Quote from: Ferrous
Ah, but that is a separate matter. For now, I do give you My promise. May the binding chains of fate break, and release you from the tyranny of those who would claim you but not protect you! I divorce you from Coruxion, that you may seek your own destinies!

There is a slight loosening of restraint in the movements of the Dukes. Bakukik shifts uneasily in slumber. Beads clack upon abacus. Coruxion feels an disgusting clinking and straining in shattered Soul. A short stuttering, and you can hear the Crystal Sphere, so focused on you, begin to hum as it did in yore.

[Ferrous: -1 Spherical Alignment]
[Ennobled Monsters Great and Terrible]
[Second Precept's Matchmaker Authority weakens]

The Celestial Peach

Uninterrupted in its celestial voyage, the Luna Persici settles into a graceful orbit around the Ringworld, where leads all roads. What truths lie hidden in the patterns of orbit?

Dreaming in lulling cradle, Eschara mumbles utterances of creation, filling the Maria Lacrimae with kelps and lotuses and reeds and rushes and papyrus and twisting mangroves, sinking their roots deep into unrotting yet still succulent moonflesh, drawing rich sustenance from what was once a cosmic weapon, now haven of life. Where the growing breach the surface, they take on a metallic aspect of patina'd copper and rarely of other metal. By common metaphysics, this enhances their functioning, resulting in lopsided plants with great surface verdance unbalanced with their marine side which struggle to keep up. Some plants have begun colonizing the islands of metallic ore, covering the beached Echoers in carpets of brass ivy.

Strange spheres of blood and crystal absorbed the fruit soil, kelp and reed and dangling roots of various plants, sucked into their strange forms, rippling with heresy, the spawn of a blasphemous moon.

With a last contented sigh, memories and dreams and figments swim free from the Eschara-that-was, rising up from the abyssal trenches that Eschara's uneasy shudders had cracked open long ago. As the first Litfish, glowing with innocence and childish joy, swam into the wide open ocean, they were met by the Moon-Kin, who examined them curiously, speaking in strange unthoughts, utilized the existing memory channels of the Litfish to implant unknowable concepts. The Litfish were enlightened, and worshipped MoonKin as divine, as teacher.

They, the Litfish and Moon-kin, spread now across the Luna Persici, talking in language of memories, meditating and fashioning metal petals into contraptions of unknown purpose.

There has been unspeakable congress between fish and sphere, from which hatched fish bodied of blood and tendriled of memory. They have discovered the truths of dreamed astrology, with strangely measured telescopes. They have written books, implanting memory inside the seedpods of lotus, filled with the mantras to remove the veil from perception, of the cosmic strings, listening melody and watching Eye.

At last Eschara herself emerged into an abyssal depth, changed by the shucking off of excess glory, they had become a glowing jellyfish of kelp, Shining Spirit that shall light the way even in the darkest depths.

Harmonic Resonances gifts you with a tongue of silver, which easily sways listeners. Beware devourers of metal.

[Remnant, Litfish, created]
[Eschara descends to a Shining Spirit]
[Eschara gifted with graft: Tongue of Silver]
[The Peach Moon orbits the ring-world in eccentric patterns.]

A heroic interlude

Too-Many-Questions reminisced.

The joy of flight atop a great phoenix many Pillars in length, warm glow enveloping his Core. Fighting against the would-be Ruiner of All, and emerging triumphant. An epic saga which would be told by many carpets for generations to come.

Yet even as with Prideful Spear in hands of asbestos cloth, he did battle with the vile Imps of Crystal, who cackled as they turned the scenic splendour of fields of panels into mere lifeless crystal, even as great dragons of crystal to which he was as an ant, did battle beside him and in deafening booms declared him boon companion, there remained in the core of his thoughts a trace of mourning and sadness.

For though there was much glory to be had in toppling the strange monoliths the Imps built, and in duelling the leaders that emerged from their constant infighting and gluttony, who gibbered most uncouthly and bore crudely worked spears, the fact remained that the longevity granted by his Amulet of Regeneration had created an invisible yet unbridgeable divide between him and the common djinn. For though he had attended several weavings and no doubt resulted in progeny, his mindset had been uncontrollably altered by the passing of many pollensoons and he find it hard to relate with other Djinni. Worse, even when he found a rare peer of mind and core, they passed away all to soon, making him warier each time to connect.

Too-Many-Questions flapped his mouth-mat in a sigh, and then sneaked into a strange chamber made of stacked crystal boulders. Several lesser imps, at the bidding of their Greater had carved a grand throne of finest Coruxion. Ever-curious, Too-Many-Questions, observed for a while behind the stuffed corpse of a pillar, as the Greater Imp merely stood blankly in the throne room for several hosehums. It felt to Too-Many-Questions, as if some instinct had driven the Greater Imp to desire a throne, but now that it had one, it had no idea what it was for, or what to do it with it. Finally, frustrated, the Great Imp smashed the throne into bits and growled and gibbered angrily, snatching up and devouring a lesser imp to vent its frustrations.

A sudden backstab.

The Greater Imp gurgles in confusion, staring at the dragonbone spearhead that has sprouted from their chest. A final moment of unthinking obscurity, then concussions of piercing pride shatters their body into lifeless fragments.

Another nest of the crystal plague, purged.

Too-Many-Questions is just about to depart when it hears... her? Following tantalizing hints of melody, he arrived before a strange jagged wall of crystal inside which was trapped... was trapped... well whatever she was, she was the most beautiful thing that Too-Many-Questions had ever heard.

One pollensoon later, and Too-Many-Questions was sure they were in love. Song of Forgotten Future Ancestors was vivacious. An answering note rising up to meet is incessant stream of questions, answers so strange that they led to just more questions. Once she had invited him to dance under the light of the two moons. He still wasn't clear about many things, despite Songy answering him in exacting, yet nonsensical detail, but he knew this, he wanted to spend the rest of his long life with her.

The Celestial Metal

Quote
"They who did make you and did test you make notice of your hope, and do bless you and your descendants. Know that your line, though not like the number of moons and stars in the sky, will be blessed by that which did propose you."

In blooms of golden hope were the chanting Emirs draped. Shining blessing echoed in ears of flaxen asbestos.

They shone their innermost souls and hopes like a great burning cloak, and their carpets knelt before declamation stripped of all layers and mats of obfuscation and deceit.

Usually, one or two of the child djinni of a carpet piling that includes an Emir, will also be an Emir, taken up by the Emir as their disciple, taught the ways of hopespeak.

When came shining phoenix to them, and spoke of the imperfect crystal creatures, who desired only to extinguish all hope, they rallied their people into tribal war bands, wielding metal clubs as they went to war with a foe that seeked to change the ground itself from familiar metal into strange and cold crystal.

Strange was the ways of the imps. They built seemingly useless and meaningless piles of crystal, which other imps somtimes demolished sooner or later, and many made crystal crowns, which none ever wore. They slavishly followed the orders of the dragons dukes to commit suicide, saluting and gurbling affirmatives before running smashing themselves over the head. They stared at the sky, and saw only valves, which they gibbered at angrily before making elaborate pitfall traps, complete with murals engraved on the sides. Which other imps then filled up. Many djinni were left befuddled by the ways of the imps, and wondered what sort of divine crafted beings like this.

Many were the battles, and those fallen, but the aid of dragons and the great hero Too-Many-Questions, the Imps were steadily pushed back.

It would perhaps, have been a war without upsets, save that as it continued more and more strange living melodies popped up, befriending the djinni, and frequently finding lovers among their number, who lay with them. An alien notion to the Djinn who usually view relationships communally, living and caring for each other as a group, and mating as a group as well.

Despite the potential contradiction between dragons, melodies and djinni, they all work together harmoniously to reach their common goal, wiping out those irritating imps.

Eventually, no more imps could be found, and it was tentatively believed that hard-fought victory had been achieved. Yet still there remained battlefields and valleys of crystal, grim monuments to the slaughter inflicted by the Imps.

Quote from: Second Precept
Create *static*. Asbestoid life that vaguely resembles the offspring of phoenixes and dragons.

When first appeared from shining declaration the Ferries, those storytellers who knew of the dalliance between Hope and Blood wondered if the breaker had finally been toppled, as it were. In this wondering, enterprising djinni did approach the Ferries when they rarely landed to bathe within volcanic caldera. The djinni attempted to treat with the Ferries, as legends and sagas speak did the heroes treat with phoenix and duke. Alas, it was discovered that ferries were mere unspeaking animals, yet unusually docile and friendly, even to those that had not the Emir's cloak. ♩ ♫ ♪ ♬

Often was it seen that Ferries devoured the adult Valves who rained down liquid death, and so was the Ferries seen as an auspicious beast.

Eventually, an enterprising Emir, Glows-Like-Moon, while giving belly rubs to a Ferry she had known for some time, discovered its torso-pouch. She happily flew through the skies with her ferry friend, visiting other tribes, who began to emulate her example.

Some pollensoons later, it was once more Emir Glows-Like-Moon, who first discovered that the rainbow aurora that Djinni sometimes saw in the sky, was in fact physical road! So far she has not ventured far on it, for it is infested with starving and voracious larval Valves. She has returned to her home carpet, and seems to be organizing an expedition of sorts.

[Under the co-operation of the Djinni Carpets, a Hero, mysterious Melodies and two Dragon Dukes, the imps have been exterminated from Ferrous, though the crystal plains they have wrought yet remain.]

The Celestial Couple
Quote from: The Sculptor
Now that it's just us, we should get to know each other better. And judge each other! Yes, this seems like the best course of action."

During your interrogative honeymoon, as you had a small picnic of asbestos asteroid, enjoying first class seats to the Ferrous Devours the Ovum Lux, Act I, in your careful measurement of each other, you discover that

- Your moon-wife is in fact quite beautiful. You do not see any moon more pretty. And so far she has aged relatively gracefully.
- She seems to have been listening more to the ravings of the Contemptible Moon-Dragon than she has let on before. This is where she came by the name of the Mirrored Mantis, for the dragon prophesied such a name will bring greatness. And greatness is almost as good as being pretty.
- She has seen the star that can only be seen in dreams, and fears it, for it is sees her also, and it is vast and cruel.

You mull over these revelations. As this is a honeymoon to celebrate finally getting rid of your clingy offspring, you specifically do not try to find out where he has gotten off to.

A harmonic sparks skitters along the hidden metallic internals of your clockwork trees and animals, and they suddenly become more. No longer merely a carefully choreographed dance, ever falling into entropy, now the toys placed upon your surface have come alive, and reproduce through strange group construction efforts, adapt to changing situations, and attempt to defend themselves against attackers.

[Your celestial meanderings have not gone unnoticed, and the Djinni and Litfish both venerate you as the wandering Knight(an amalgation of concepts of Guarding and Saving). Sadly there is still insufficient faith to condense into decrees.]

The Celestial Skies

The Geminae, still in the throes of internal conflict, attempts to block the trade entrances to the Ovum Lux. As they are too small to block all the, very widely spread, entrances at the same time, and not particularly suited to gate duties in any case, they manage only to block a single port of entry. By fateful machinations, this is the entrance that Marrow was stuck in. As the Celestial Skies of Geminae barrel into Marrow, he is knocked back into the great Sphere, where he drifts aimlessly, a tangle of metal roots, deep in slumber. Whatever strange artifices that had been impelling him into the Ovum Lux seemingly expended.

[Working failed]
[Marrow expelled!]

Quote from: The Twins
The Eclipse Rises

Est geminae breathes out two nebula of shadow from their blockaded entrance, one on the inside, the other on the outside, which of course, does not exist. These giant nebular leisurely dance and crawl across the skin of the Ovum lux, causing patches of darkness to spring up in what was once eternal shining. These eclipses are periods of both joy and horror for djinni and other mortals, for when the sun is blocked, there is a wilting, as the source of life is blocked, yet also a relief from the cancerous rays, which tries so to twist asbestos into knots, and flesh into cancer.

Short-lived harmonic barriers flicker into brief existences over the other entrances into the Ovum.

In the end, relatively rare eclipses has been designated as solemn festivals by most djinni carpets. Compulsory silence is a common custom for several of these festivals.

Their constant biting and clawing at each other however, finally reaches a boiling point, and the twins of light and dark succeed in tearing each other to pieces, until finally only a core of dark and light remain, circling belligerently around each other. Levis est geminae attempts to take up a second sphere, but recalls that she is not yet a Pearlescent Patron. Levis est geminae descends to the Remnant World of Plants, which gains the name Verdance.

Meanwhile, the offspring of Levis and the Divamond, who had so gaily frolicked across her continental bulk, seemed possessed by something, and devoured the the cast off remnants of the Geminae, their consumption changing them. Slowly their bodies evolve from ungainly tumorous to predatory and graceful, as they took up  feline countenances, splitting into tribes of leonine day and pantherlike night, scaled tails one memory of their draconic heritage. They are then whisked off to the world of plants and another world by sliding down eclipse slides which soon dissipate.

The children struggle to survive in the harsh conditions of Verdance, where the plants are eager to mulch them for extra nutrients, which is much competed for in that savage place. Their numbers shrink and they live in constant starvation, but learn the tricks of stealth and hiding against their cunning chlorophyllic predators and have begun forming small family clans in sheltering, less hostile basket-trees.

After several generations of repelling aggressive plants from their only safe havens, some of the basket trees have even developed something of a symbiotic relationship with their resident children, gifting them with fruits and nectar.

somewhere insignificant

In a strange display, She of Roads rewrites the stars, so that her ever-shifting name be now cemented as being in fact, She of Roads. Let all entities take note of this change, for She of Roads is now She of Roads forevermore.

Quote from: She of Roads
"Oh, those poor mortals, isolated in their villages where there stand an entire universe to see, this cannot stand any longer"

With great diligence and industry, the caravan that is She of Roads travels across the breadth of somewhere or other, building exquisite roads that will truly stand the test of time, between various backwaters, and even building a tower or two that would allow the adventurous to venture further out into the Ovum Lux, though of course not beyond, for there is nothing beyond.

Some curious mortals observe keenly the methods and means of She of Roads, and begin to imitate her in building lesser, non trade related roads.

Inkstone and cloudstone begins to flow along the trade roads, though it is unclear what is being done with it.

[The discord of She of Roads was neutralized.]

Laboratory of Utugar

The industrious Many-Handed works feverishly amidst clusters of bubbling cauldrons and half-constructed eggs under microscopes, as Soon eagerly helps and "helps" them like a cute little lab assistant.

Finally, or perhaps firstly, one of the ovens Soon was diligent stoking, bursts apart as the Morakhan chew their way out. Fearful that they'll mess up delicate equipment, Utugar grabs many many handfuls, and flings them all over the place. Scarabs of impressive size, they spend much of their time rolling around giant balls of rock, dirt and vegetation, over time forming crude game trails as they follow their migratory instincts, navigating many subtle cues.

Rarely do they fall prey to packs of Hemopal wolves. As they happily chew their way through Sandywood groves and buildings of Seal villages invariably found at the center of such groves, to add to their giant rolling balls, some things seem to become slightly clearer. So far no taming of these gentle giants has succeeded.

Then from a vitrified sandywood boiling in a particular cauldron, which Soon was stirring, erupt a swarm of metal eating rock Thermites. Averse to the Royal Qi, they quickly rocket into the more tolerable aether above, and enter dormancy when the colony's scouts find no nearby metal. They form up into a tight ball, with the important royalty at the inside, protected from the harsh sunlight, while the outermost layers slowly mutate into uselessness under the relentlessly pulsing of sunlight.

As your marriage counselor is left pondering whether his god in fact, cheats at cards, you concern yourself more important things, like finishing that dragonfly in a bottle model of yours. Of course, right when you finally finish it, it springs to life, breaks the bottle, and flies away! Soon the rare lakes and rivers are infested with their nymphs, and they frequently snatch up sun children or seals travelling the god-roads. Also, several rakish dragonflies keep trying to seduce Soon before you shoo them away!

Utugar takes a moment to view the remaining bubbling cauldrons and works in progress, and throws together a few odds and ends into the humble Bat. Strong back legs, a good singing pair of wings, powerful tympanic membranes, and a finely honed sense of awkwardness. Starting relatively small, they steadily grow the longer they go without being eaten, a miracle in itself, as dragonflies, seals, night children, wolves and various other predators are more than happy to hunt them when available, their prodigious breeding rate all that keeps them from dying out.

They happily spread here and there, nibbling at small pieces of the unwanted rainbow bridges (someone really should maintain those), rogue Echoers (who protest vigorously, including various rude gestures), and the odd asteroid, and struggling to survive on Verdance, which is somehow, a lot harsher than another place, despite the abundance of food.

Your latest masterwork, a throne of nectarine peels and sundog bone is completed to your satisfaction. You then ask your Marriage Counselor who the most cunning Seal is, and they say the chief of the next village over. Odd, you expected them to identify themselves. Anyway, you gift the throne to the next village over, and spread various salacious rumours about the gifted's cunning, and his supposed divine right to rule.

As you weave together enchantments of health and fecundity, the whole things explode either far beyond your expectations, or exactly as you planned. Instead of contesting him, various nearby villages harmoniously submitted to the divinely appointed king, causing a chain reaction as he organized various militias and hunters into an actual organized fighting force, with which he rapidly swept the heretical autonomous collectives and rigidly hierarchical chiefdoms of a large section of the ring before he began stalling.

Soon a rigidly feudalistic society of Seals, with Sun and Night Children and unlucky Seal serfs working their lands, develops, named the Centre Kingdom. Metalwork blossoms, even as wildlife attacks intensify. Sandywoods are chopped down on sight as an unsuspicious omen. The first king works on stabilizing his kingdom, and so does his heir. His heir, Sword-solves-Problems however, has ambitions of conquest, and begins organizing a grand inkstone cloaked army with which to sweep across the entire ring!

Soon claps their hands excitedly and exclaims, "Ooh, mother! I'm going to be the patron of that dreamy conquerer Sword-solves-Problems, and sacrifice sooo many infidels and establish a bloody cult to my glory! Byebye see you later!~".

Soon after, with great fanfare and pomp of an entourage of living melodies (where did those come from?), the Divamond Dragon of Āhrīkya, Shameless Duke of Cobalt, arrives at your Seal-Huddle of residence, where he presents fine Djinni tapestries and spears as gifts.

"Lo, as I said  before, so I have done. I find now that your child Soon is pleasing and similar to myself. Please, accept my gifts, and let us seal betrothal?"

Though the biological inheritance of monolatristicism and throne-veneration is questionable, the cultural inheritance is not. As those with such traits live longer and have more children, to which they also teach these principles, such mores become more common among Seals, particularly the upper castes of the Centre Kingdom. Most of them worship the Throne-Giver in deeply personal rites and sometimes small household shrines.

The tower gifts Sword-solves-Problems a crown which reveals lies, poisons and ambushes.

[Seal Civilization[Center Kingdom] develops! There is currently no organized religion, or much religion of any sort.]
[Beware the Dragons of Ruin]
[Sword-solves-Problems has ascended the Nectarine throne of the Center Kingdom!]
[You have gained the authority of gifts! Gain 1 Decree from seal worship of the Many-handed Giver of Thrones and Matching Gifts]
[The garmanent thrones have been misplaced.]

The Ruinous

Your perspective shifts and cracks, as it becomes lesser. Gone the grand sight of orbits and world, the consideration of tectonics and rain shadows, removed insight into ecosystems. As you look through five eyesights, you perceive the workings of societies and the indiviudal. Yet the clarity becomes greater as it all seems to snap into focus. Then one of the yous vanishes under a hail of teeth and claw.

Vejon the Hungry who headed for the crystal wastes of Ferrous, succumbed to draconic ambush, and was devoured.

Iurai the Contemptous has resettled the Infinite Mirrors for the glory of the Imperfects, much to her displeasure.

Ocarl the Peeping takes pleasure in ruining the perfectly sculpted artistic ecosystems upon the Sculptor as he leads the unthinking imps to build great pyramids to his glory. Though the animals fight back more than they did the last time imps came calling.

Anacros the Eccentric attempts to gain ingress into the Ovum Lux, but finds their unseen path blocked by a harmonic barrier!

Exilat the Betrayer attempts to gain ingress into the Ovum Lux, but finds their unseen path blocked by a harmonic barrier!

You spend some attention on the the societies your imps build on Infinite Mirrors and the Sculptor. The results... are not promising. Without the personal supervision of your ruined, the Imps seem to only ape at civilization, construction crude structures with no purpose, doing work only for it to be undone, making elaborate tools, which they then don't use. The only thing of civilization which they seemed to have actually mastery over, is the creation of art. Yes indeed, their most favoured motif to carve into various pieces of crystal is of course a hand crushing a great tower in its grasp. Nicely symbolic you suppose, if a bit repetitive.

[The imps are masters of working crystal into a myriad of forms. Sadly metal is still the superior material]

The Celestial Tower

[Karma has been reset, the slate wiped clean]

The boom of thunder, as lightning hits the tower. It looms, it leans, it burns and topples. The outcome is revealed.
DISASTER

It is with the air of a predator suddenly finding their belly rumbling, that Ferrous stalks closer to the Crowned Shell-Sun. That such a thing could have the trappings of royalty, while Ferrous did not. Unforgiveable. Inexcusable.

Great canyon mouths, lined with steel teeth, begin to gape open on Ferrous, as the distance between the world of metal and the shell of sun shrinks.

Finally there is impact, and much of asbestoid life unfortunate enough to be on the wrong side of the Resplendant world, are pulverized by the forces involved, as slavering canyon maws feast hungrily upon shell-sun.

The Seals and Children stared up in awe and terror, as an unimaginable colossus, ate the shining sky.

The dormant Thermites, catching the rich scents on the aether, literally explode into action, as they race for Ferrous, burrowing deep into his metal and beginning to multiply, their tunnels forming strange sigils...

Eating a egg of light is apparently hard work, and tired, Ferrous retreats, his swallowed mouthfuls digesting and alloying deep within his crucible stomachs.

A massive gaping hole in the sky, through which could be seen strange dots of light and perhaps other things. Suddenly glancing down at your hands, seeing them turning hard and... metallic. You are different now than you were before.

Like a sinking ship, the No-Flesh law steadily leaks into the Ovum Lux, beginning to metallize those without protective carapaces or inorganic composition. Predictably, the metal-devourer ecosystem of... Orbis Terrarum throni goes into overdrive as if suddenly presented with a full course buffet, cannibalizing much of itself.

Gone is the Verdant Resplendant who had once valiantly warded off its depredations.

Gone is the enthroned Sun that might have melted it away with glaring rays.

Watching, is the Sculptor.

However, the No-Flesh Law has perhaps grown slightly rigid with age, and its spread is not immediate, but gradual. While most have begin to feel at least some of the effects, complete metallization may take a couple of generations for most.

The Tower gifts you a mysterious box that is too small for you to open.

[Working Partially Succeeded?]
[Giant Hole in Shell-Sun]
[No-Flesh Law is leaking in!]
[You feel slightly tired]
[The Seals and Children dread you as the Bringer of Calamitous Revelation. The Djinni weep. Gain 1 Decree from worship. Worship will rapidly drop off unless you do something to secure it.]
[Asbestoid life, and Djinni in particular, has suffered a calamity.]
[Too-Many-Questions has died a heroic death, overseeing the evacuation of a carpet into deeper hose tunnels as it saw the approaching impact coming. His many melodic descendants swear vengeance on those responsible. The location of his artifacts is unknown.]
[Ferrous gains 2 Discord]

Anacros the Eccentric and Exilat the Betrayer merrily skip through the newly chewed hole in the Ovum Lux. No harmonic barriers here! Anacros takes pleasure in wiping out a few communities of Seals, stomping on them brutishly as their families look on and attempt to futilely resist with spears and swords of ruddy copper.

Exilat begins building up his forces near the Center Kingdom, plotting its ruin. A grand palace of crystal is constructed by his subjects under his guidance.

[Coruxion has been recognized as the Crystal God of Malice by the Djinni, Seals and Children! He is on the cusp of gaining decree income from fearful reverence, thoroughly overshadowed by the actions of Ferrous.]

There is a tear.

An unimaginable colossus, eating the sky.

The veil is rapidly torn to shreds as unhands larger than anything should be grip at the edges of the slowly healing rift in the Crystal Sphere and pull. Strangely melodic tentacles of non-existence happily aid it, while many many squirming and dividing uneyes of memory look curiously in.

Freed of its restraints, the Blood Moon begins to once more ponderously advance into reality, its destination unclear.

The Fool is Ascendant. Begin the Fool's Journey, Innocent and Simple. End it delirious, in folly and extravagance. Favoured is vanity, apathy and negligence.
The Minor Hammer is Prominent. Brute Overwhelming Force is favoured.

The Crystal Sphere hums intermittently. Nothing meaningful can be divined.
The clicking beads of the Celestial Abacus signals that it will be some time before the next karmic reckoning.

So Tene~
Don't call me that, what is it?
ThinkingThat's a laugh. about it.. I'm being serious! We should work to patch up that giant hole in the sky. And apparently She of Roads is inside the Ovum Lux.
Want to hide again? Of course! That Ferrous just had to go break it like a total brute.. mouu~
She of Roads can move the Road, and we could take those fractal tree things
Sandywoods and. ...
We can tae those fractal tree things, some cloudsea and inkseas, and make a thundercloud veil with a twisting forest path to block sight going in or out. We can't move the thing ourselves, but she could, and it would make us safer.

And the Project? We can do it simply enough afterward once the egg blocks sight again. I doubt Ferrous is going to be happy, but what he can't see can't hurt them till it does!Idiot. Downer. Cheapskate. Take that back! I'm just logistically inclined!
Staredown
Lets go and ask them then. If it fails, just block the sight anyway with a thundercloud to shock anyone coming through. Fine.'

The twins shoot for the last known location She of Roads was at.

Scattered across many souls, across many places, Coruxion felt the spiritual state of the lesser, and felt greater.

"Ah the foolish shards of mine power, devoid of soul and rejecting their purpose. They know only might and feel absolute, just like us once. Made mindless, they attempt to simulate a semblance of self, but they remain constructs.
Their singular Eyes are blind, and have yet to see."

Coruxion was the Ruinous, and through the eaten Ruinous, was also part of the Dragons. Therein was a seed purposefully planted, and the devoured Ruinous served their purpose.

Decree? Working? Coruxion works on the soulless Dragons who devoured the Ruinous, communicating with them. They will gain spiritual awareness of their Sphere, and through the second Sphere, understand the purpose they were made for, and the grand celestial plan they are part of.

Coruxion speaks to these Dragons, who will see beyond what they see.

Spoiler: Crustal Revelations (click to show/hide)

Coruxion's plan of reclamation is underway!

------

Decrees: Ruinous Civilization, Uniting the Imperfect Tribes
Through the remaining Ruinous, Coruxion gathers the Imps in greater numbers and organize them. Coruxion does not rule, however, as this lowly task is left to the Ruinous. To rule is to be a slave of one's subjects, and Coruxion is above such a concept.

The Imps have known enough hardships, and they must undergo the next phase lf the Cycle. The Crystal Folks get a spark of understanding: the Djinns and Seals are rising, and we cannot oppose them; we must unite.

Broken tribes are united, and mighty kingdoms are formed. Imps become Ruined, and as one they rise above the other mortals under the guidance of the Ruinous.

Each Ruinous forges a kingdom.
Ocarl creates Carlitte in the Ovum Lux, they will have a particular focus on Crystalworking and great works.
Anacros founds Troadra in the Ovum Lux, they will have a particular focus on strategy and warfare education.
Exilat founds Batrus in the Ovum Lux, they will have a particular focus on martial prowess and self-development.

The growth of the Ruinous Civilization is set in motion.
