Lin's head failed to leave the table, though she did at least tilt it as far as her horns would allow to look at Kaya.
"Look, I'm only good at three things, and none of those is talking to people. Obviously. I'll just go silent or bore her to death with metallurgy or music theory or something." The belgor sighed again, picking her head up yet letting her eyes fall. "I can't just give her a spear or walk up and do a bass solo, that would be weird. I think. I don't know. Besides, why would she want to hang out with me?"

"I mean, I guess. I don't think about it that much. Usually. Today doesn't count." Lin took another bite of her cinnamon roll, and talked around it as she continued. "Isn't it supposed to be kind of a production, though? You gotta be all romantic and crap, and. . . actually know what you want to do. I don't know what you do on a date."

And with that, Kruger sheathes his rapier, taking an unusually deep breath before starting to sprint, looking for law enforcement in the area.

"See? That's what I mean. I don't know how this works." Her tone was half vindicated, half defeated. "That's why I need an in, or something. I can't just walk up, I need an excuse."

"Nah but....think about it from a logical point of view. You don't know a thing about Theodora, right? Think of it like reconnaissance. Or field research. You scope her out, figure out if she's all that you really want, what she likes, what she's like when she's just relaxing."
Kaya almost snorts.
"....of course, I haven't had a boyfriend OR a girlfriend before, so I'm not exactly a font of wisdom."
As Kruger seeks a nearby constable, he runs into Himiko and Joel returning from the cinema, looking around.
