Sessha uses Trick Shot.

The Baby Leviathan is riddled with a series of knives up and down its neck.
The Baby Leviathan is wounded. (wounded -> almost dead)

Trence uses Slash!
The Baby Leviathan is wounded.

Willis casts Absolute Zero!
The Baby Leviathan is surrounded by an icy tornado, and torn up.
The Baby Leviathan is defeated!

Victory!
Found 4x Whale Blubber, 8x Whale Steaks.

With that, the four of you successfully navigate past the lake, and onto the further shore, with only a short trip back uphill left to complete your detour.

To be continued.

On this side of the lake the trees are a bit more scraggly.. it looks like someone has been through here, ever, unlike the north side, so you have a little easier of a time moving around.  Not quite as many fallen logs, nor as many rose thickets.  You take a quick camp at the end of the day, knowing that tomorrow you'll make it back to town, enjoying your new whale steaks.  Yum yum.

During the next morning, as you approach the top you can see a nice clear area where some rockslide knocked down all the trees, creating a bit of high grassy meadow.. and there's someone there, since you can hear more orc related noises.

Coming closer, it becomes clear why the Orcs were so willing to adopt a cute baby creature.  They already have puppies!  Here's a pen with about two dozen riding wolves in it, and perhaps three or four orcs standing guard.. this time there's nothing for it, if you go east you might run into the barricade orcs, and if you keep moving west you'll have a very long way to go around and might just end up stuck again.  Nothing but to go through these orcs.

Encounter Start!

Two groups of four Gray Wargs.  One group of three Orcs.

"Those orcs look like weaker ones.  The wargs look untrained and relatively small, so they shouldn't have much but crude weapons and teeth.

Still, more might jump in if we take too long, so we should try to speed this up."

This does indicate an interesting strategy, if we ever need to infiltrate an organisation that doesn't know we can transform. Pretend to be a rare and valuable creature, get captured, turn back/murder everyone.

Trence takes a stance.

Willis casts Fireworks!  Sparkly explosions rip through the enemies.

Three orcs are defeated!

All the Gray Wargs are wounded!

Sessha uses Flurry of Darts+ on Warg Group A.

Four wargs are defeated!

Two wargs attack Willis.
He takes two damage.

One warg attacks Trence.
He takes no damage.

One warg attacks Sessha.
She takes one damage.

Trence counterattacks one warg, defeating it.

Cleanup is no problem, and the other monsters flee, scared enough to jump their way out of the pen.

The Wargs drop five Large Wolf Pelts.  One drops a Silver Nature Emblem, and one drops a Gold Nature Emblem.

One orc drops a Steel Broadsword. [+1]

"Huh, that's some more good luck.  Orcs usually drop junk, but getting a real weapon out of a plain orc is unusual.  Getting a plain nature emblem from a bunch of wolves is just normal luck, but the golden one is very lucky.

We'll have to use them when we upgrade our gear back at home.. they can be used to make more potent equipment."

Lets see, we had a Silver Death Emblem and a Golden Cold Emblem, and..

Huh, looks like we lost the death emblem in your backpack, Trence."

Anyway, there's nothing more to it right now, just time to finish the trip and see if you can find the proper lake..  which will take significantly less time, as you come into view of the mountain town from above.  It's got the same roofs, the same clock tower, the same park, and the same lake.. This is the place you were shown by the water spirit, and you let out a joyous whoop.

What next?

+1, it's good to get to know the locals in each place. Maybe find a nice cafe or tavern to sample mountain food in.

This town is pretty small, and the people in it are pretty friendly to outsiders.  Particularly since everyone's annoyed at the Orc roadblock.

In general there isn't too much going on.  They're supposed to have a festival soon, and you can see decorations on many of the buildings.  It's supposedly some kind of get together where everyone listens to music, drinks lots of beer, and eats lots of pork, but it won't start for about another month, so you'll probably not be here by the time it goes off.

Other than that, it's all peaked red roofs, fairly narrow stone streets, and thick wooden walls.  It seems like they get a fair amount of snow up here, so everyone's close together to make getting around easier in winter.

There are a couple good taverns.  Inside, all is fairly relaxed despite the orc blockade and various other problems, there's a few mid-level adventurers around, such as a witch with the hat, a small tinkerer with the goggles, and a big bearded guy with a big-ol hammer.  None of them make you feel odd, so none are hidden spies.

Asking about the lake, (and about any caves in it), you find out that it's much deeper than it looks, being several hundred feet deep, and there's a good number of fish in it, but it isn't considered dangerous.  There may well be an underwater cave, but nobody around here knows anything about one.

Underwater caving time!

It is terrifying. But Trence seems fearless.

Underwater caving is indeed extremely dangerous.  What would the first step be?  Renting a boat?

Ask Sessha what adventurers usually do when they want to raid underwater caves or shipwrecks. Ask witch if she can cast water breathing spells. Ask tinkerer if he can craft water breathing apparatus. Ask bearded guy with hammer how long he can hold his breath for.
