The back of an ore wagon wasn't uncomfortable for all of the mercs given how loudly Andre was snoring. Thankfully it did not take much to wake the man nor fill him in with what was happening.

"I can't say it makes sense but I can't see any reason to say no either. Can't promise that nobody won't get hurt either. Might even be me! Bwahahaha." Clearly the ox of a man had no objections either as he planted his feet firmly and got ready for this practice spar. At least he was well-rested.

Hortensia was absolutely abhorred having to listen to every bit of that song— her calm exterior had quickly become frazzled and immensely flushed. To top it all off, now Eirin was bothering her. If every time she went out she was going to be bombarded with commoner perversions and Aes Sedai clinginess, she was just going to assemble the largest public relations team she possibly could for all of her affairs involving this absolute nonsense.

"I am perfectly content with not watching these people throw their sticks and stones at each other for amusement, thank you." Her politeness was definitely slipping as a result of Thanes' song, on top of her obviously general lack of respect for the Aes Sedai.

Lydia finishes writing her last note, and closes her notebook with a crisp snap, stowing both it and her pencil within her purse, before clapping quietly and quickly.

"A wonderful performance, especially on such short notice.  Thank you, Gleeman, I do so enjoy the histories."

There is absolutely zero indication as to whether Lydia knows this is a bawdy tavern song or thinks it's a genuine historical piece, not in her consistently stoic expression nor her level voice.  It is very possible that this song's story might find its way into a history at some point in the future.

"Well done indeed."

"It would certainly seem we're not the only ones who think so, either!  Why, the gaze of Lady Calderon de Mendez has hardly strayed from you for more than a moment through your song."

She responded to the bard's wink with a cheerful smile and a wink of her own, before she nodded over to the noble entourage ahead.

"You really are quite skilled, gleeman.  Particularly to catch the eye of a discerning noble woman like her."

"Oh, I'm sure she would love to have some words with me right now. Though, honestly, I suspect she would find herself completely tongue tied and unable to express her true feelings for me if I went over and talked with her."

He made an intricate flourish with his cloak, and then extended a hand with a paper rose to the Aes Sedai.

"Thane Dovil, Lady Aes Sedai. A wandering gleeman, and adventurer. Might I inquire as to your name? After all, if we are to be travel companions, even if only for a short while, I cannot continue to call you Aes Sedai."

"You certainly can, though I imagine that might grow a bit unwieldly, with more than one of us here."

The Aes Sedai graciously accepted the paper flower, turning it in her fingers to examine the petals.

"Oh, quite charming! But if you would like my name, please feel free to call me Alvienne.  It might save some confusion."

"It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance, Thane Dovil.  Doubly so, if you've more ballads and stories to share--quite apart from entertaining our other traveling companions, I'm sure your recollections of the legends will be of greater appeal to my sister here than my own interpretations."

"Right then. We'll begin as soon as I reach that stand of trees." Sefton whistled, causing various heads to pop up around the camp. A swift glance from any one of the three Warders was sufficient to get them moving into their positions on the mock battlefield, beside the road and near a small inn.

"Don't disappoint. Then I'll have to explain to three Aes Sedai why a man has bumbled all over their plans."

Enemy Phase!

The mercenaries ready a defensive line against the incoming guards, who decide to focus their attacks on Baronel.

Merchant Axeman B moves to H11.
Quote from: Merchant Axeman B vs Baronel!
Merchant Axeman B attacks Baronel!
Hit: 85-20-8 = 57
Roll: 67, miss!

Baronel counterattacks!
Hit: 99-13 = 86
Roll: 96, miss!

The axeman, somewhat overconfident due to his numerical advantage, underestimates the strength of the high ground, but the height difference makes it difficult for Baronel to land his reprisal.

The others, unable to get into proper striking positions, simply move to reinforce their wayward ally.
Merchant Spearman C to I11.
Merchant Archer B to J9.
Merchant Spearman B to H9.

Player Phase!

Camira darts up to an aggressive position inside the "enemy" line.
Quote from: Camira vs Merchant Axeman B
Camira strikes in a flash of white steel!
Camira is as a lion on a hill!

Camira attacks!
Hit: 99+15-13=102
Autohit!
Damage: 14+1-4 = 11

Axeman B counters!
Hit: 85-15-32-15 = 23
Roll: 12, hit!
Damage: 18-3-1 = 14

Camira attacks again!
Hit: 102
Autohit!
Damage: 11

She lands two solid strikes, but her aggression leads her directly into the blunted axe blade.

Player Phase continues.
