You...  you shaved six levels off our glorious pyramid!  How could you?  Why... I remember reading a tale of how, on their way to trade with the dwarves, a group of elves stopped and built a pyramid so tall that the Great Toad himself made an appearance in the thread!

Why?...  Why have you done this?

I did it because I remembered people telling me of how pyramids too tall slow down the forum. Before I know this, I made a topic for pyramid making, which Toad locked, which is good. I have since sent him a message asking for that topic to be deleted so it doesn’t slow down the forum and waste space

8th Turn

Event

Strength Dice: 57
Temparement Dice: 4

The surplus carbon in the atmosphere has been mostly rebalanced, and global tempatures are restored back to a reasonable state again. The Crater Sea is now properly oxygenated once more through the restoration of The Harbringers.

The heavy metal surge from the last turn have stopped and all of it are buried inside the deep sediment as less harmful compounds now.

All of your population counts are a now bit higher than they should have.

Terrestrial Pancake
Generation after generation, the Coastal Pancakes that could survive on land better were selected, and can survive and reproduce on land now. One of the two adaptations that allowed this to happen was the development of roots through modification of filtering tendrils. These tendrils are now tough and continuously grow longer, branching out into separate lines and harvesting water and all sorts of nutrients. The second adaptation was initially appeared against the vestigial fragility of the outer pan, but with the influence of the increased resources harvested by the roots, spread to the rest of the plant, making it tougher than it already is.

All of this has resulted in their prolific and unchallenged spread through wet regions of The Barren Plains, as well as a substantial size increase. The water pump though, it as been reduced to a mere shape, as it no longer functional and does not work at all due to simply being too tough. Their modified roots also mean that they can no longer survive in or too close to permanent water, and are considered a separate species from the Coastal Pancake.

Since they lack a stem or any other leverage of any kind, they just grow like circular floor tiles, and their shapes are usually distorted by the influence of landshapes and the other of their own species. Their communities may look like flat floors made out of irregular, green and alive bathroom tiles if the conditions are right.

Status: LC

Description
A small stemless green plant shaped like a flat, rough circle. It is 30 centimeters in diameter. A ring of long and thin roots at the bottom of it dig into the soil and harvest it for water and minerals. It reproduces by growing miniature adults inside capsules just under its outer layer, which burst when the young is developed. The walls of its cells are very durable and sturdy. It is covered by dozens of tiny oil-filled pimples across its body, which used to be for buoyancy, but now do not serve much of a purpose beyond being minor storage units. It lives permanently plastered on soil like a depthless sticker, surrounded by the others of its kind, forming tiled fields of green. The remnants of a small water siphon is situated at the center of the root ring, and it is fully vestigial.

Habitat: The wet, close-to-coast regions of The Barren Plains.

Pooping Blish
A primitive beginnings of a digestive tract has appeared on this animal through an accidental DNA duplication making an additional, smaller and weaker mouth appear at the back of the blish, near the tuff. This mouth is connected to the main mouth with a tube that goes through the digestive insides, creating a short pathway for the food to be digested and the refuse to be excreted. There are advantages to this of course as this has allowed the food to undergo a much more extensive and efficent digestion than it would be put under in a semi-solid mass of digestive cells. And ithas also prevented any precious food from expelled along with the waste.

Inside of the blish, a new change has appeared, the nerve net that surrounded the creature has been condensed into an alternate shape, which is a chord that reaches through the front to the back and branches out into the rest of the body. This new arrangement in nervous system and therefore cognition favours mating opportunities more than the old one, so the blish that has these were hornier than average, so these blish gradually replaced the old system. The Crater Sea is filled with slightly hornier fishies now.

Status: LC

Description
An aquatic animal that is 10 centimeters long. It moves along the sea floor and above with its tuff of flagella on its bum and digests any organic debris it can find through its mouth that leads to its digestive canal, which leads to an anus. It has 10 black dots on its very front, 4 of them larger then the other 6. The smaller six form a hexagon that surrounds a square that is formed from the bigger 4, which surrounds a single jawless mouth. It uses these dots to smell the water around and act according to them, approaching or avoiding alike. These dots and everything this animal has as parts are connected to and commanded by a chord of nerves that runs from front to back of the animal that branches out to the rest of the body. A mane of thin and short crimson strands surround the head region, and functions as gills. It reproduces by external fertilisation of eggs performed by two distinct genders. The fertilised eggs hatch into tiny juneviles, which reach full size and sexual maturity not too long after.

Habitat: The sea, near the sea floor as its food is there.

Team Lagus Blob
flazeo25: Sexual reproduction by internal fertilisation and internal egg rearing: 1+2+2= 5

Childbearing Lagus
As the conditions became better and Lagus turned from the edge of extinction, the select few that survived already had something akin to the more advanced reproductive features in the future, such as budding instead of splitting in two. But now, the way this creature reproduces is much more complex. There are two different sexes with significant differences and these are the Lagus Eral and Alur. They are indistinguishbale from eachother, but the Alur produce heat around the entrance of their internal pouch when they are available, to signal Erals into mating.

Lagus Eral are the males, who carry the motile gametes inside a small internal pouch, which is connected to a set of tendrils that inject the cells inside it to the much larger internal pouch of Lagus Alur for them to fertilise the non-motile gametes inside.

Lagus Alur are the females, and they have big internal pouches that produce big non-motile gametes that get fertilised by the motile ones. These fertilised cells, which are ginormous and are packed full of nutrients, then go on to split and form into a swarm of tinycute  baby Lagi.

These babies stay for a little and their development is usually in sync. The Alur expels them off when they are developed enough, onto a suitable patch of algea for them to eat and goes on to its own way, leaving the young to their fates.

This reproductive system has proven itself to be quite efficent. It produces alot of young in short time, allowing easy replenishment of lost members of the species. It has also allowed some adaptations for the further refinement of heat reception, since an example of visual indicaion has appeared.

Lagus has no gills or a stomach of any kind. Also, requesting an anus (which would also be useless since there is no internal digestion) along with a reproductive system is not allowed, as they are too unrelated. So no, you guys aren't getting it.

SS vote has been unlocked.

Status: NT

Description
A round animal 5 centimeters in width and length. It slowly moves along the sea shore and digests any organic debris it can find, which is usually algea. It has a long tail resembling a flagella, which it uses to move around. Covering the body, a specialised layer of tissue prevents any nutrient loss. And under and around that, there is a calcite framework that keeps it rigid and provides pathways for cells to move. This is further augmented with a net of nerves just beneath the outer layer, which also controls its movement and grants it a bit of pressure reception that informs it of the depth. It has a defined front side with a head, which has two giant, organised patches of heat sensitive proteins, kind of like heat eyes, that allows it to detect the amount of ambient and directional heat, and a non-functional primitive jaw. It reproduces by the internal fertilisation by the gamet-injecting tendrils of Eral, and the internal hatching of eggs by Alur, who then releases the offspring onto a suitable patch of algea.

Habitat: Inside the algea growths that cover the shallow waters.

Kashyyk: A circulatory system powered by the mostly useless water pumps: 3+2= 5
GOTOTOTOE: Supports Kashyyk

Pipework Hivecake
The unrefined and very slow transfer of nutrients and chemical signals between the individual plants has been improved upon by the evolution of a network of internal veins that carry the said things inside the hive. This system is powered by the now internalised and reinforced water pump, which pushes the liquid inside these veins throught the hive.

This has allowed much larger colonies and bigger individual sizes as this is also very beneficial for the hivecakes as singular units as well. They are found aplenty and are a common sight on the surface of The Crater Sea.

Splitting in two has really started to become a problem. It takes weeks, and even a month to fully do it now. And it may very well go horribly wrong because of a wrong wave at a wrong time, rendering the split imperfect or failed, and may result in deformed offspring or no offspring at all.

Status: LC

Description
A small green plant shaped like a flat circle. It is 12 centimeters in diameter. A ring of long and thin, retractable white tendrils reside, and are used to form connections with others of its kind to transfer nutrients in some, and just as water harvesters on the others. Surrounding the edges of the pan is a coat of bonding proteins that allows it to stick to others of its kind. It lives permanently stuck to the sea surface through the dozens of tiny oil-filled pimples across its body. It can be found as mats numbering several tens of thousands plants, and never alone, as they die if they are separated. It features specialised subtypes. It has the ability to let others know if it is low on or has too much nutrients by using special chemical signals, which others will act accordingly by either giving or taking nutrients. This accomplished by a communal circulatory system that spans the entirety of a given hive, and it is powered by the beating of tens of thousands of internal water pumps. It reproduces by splitting in two when it gets too big.

Habitat: Open ocean.

Environment
On the southern hemisphere of the planet Aqautico, a giant warm saltwater crater lake called The Crater Sea resides.

Surrounding the sea, a hot barren, lifeless rocky wasteland goes on for hundreds of kilometers, stretching as far as eye can see.

And through the east side, four rivers called The Harbringers follow curved, close-by paths to the sea, coming from far away and who knows where. Where they come from is also close to a volcano. Along with the four rivers, there is a dry river bed, a remnant of a time when there were five of The Harbringers.

A smaller and much younger freshwater crater lake is also nearby, residing by the north of The Crater Sea. It is connected to the it by a small stream that used to carry toxic, heavy metals from the lake it comes from.

Multicelluar life is abundant, but is still relatively primitive. Vast growths of algea and collosal mats of colonial plants can be seen along the shallow coasts and the deep sea respectively. It is also present on the coastal regions, as vast fields of irregular green tile flooring that mostly surrounds the sea.

Gestation
A third caste within the colony emerges, whose oil-filled pimples have grown and merged into a single, large organ. Whilst other cells may continue splitting to grow a colony, This caste is the only one which produces whole new colonies, by splitting repeatedly within its oil cavity to make a juvenile colony. Using the oil-filled medium and some specialised tendrils to the child, it will continually feed it glucose and nutrients until the juvenile has grown large enough to be self sufficient. At this point, the gestator caste will effectively turn itself inside out and expel the new colony into the world, to grow and merge with other colnies as its own being.

Develop s gills between head and body to allow the Lagus to breath.

SS Vote Proposal: Two tendrils on it's head take heat adjustment a step further allowing it create sort of luminous glow to signal potential mates and provide source of light through heat.

Yes. But you lack any sense of sight, so you can just say that the tendrils create heat.

What specfically about our roots prevents us from growing too close to permanent water? I know that causes some plants' roots to rot, but aquatic plants with roots do exist, I just want to get a handle on what our specific issue is so we can adapt around it if we decide to do so. Is it rotting?

Yep, it is the rot and also your roots becoming incompatible with constant submersion in saltwater.

But the thing is, you don't even need to be concerned about it, you cover the wet coastal areas now, and are pretty widespread. The places too saltwatery for you are covered by your previous version, the Coastal Pancake, which occupies the niche of salt tolerant land plant as it is.

Wait, you know all of you are multicelluar, right? It is the whole plant that cumbersomely splits in two, not just the cells that compose them.
