I just wanted to say I appreciate the reasonable opinion-sharing and discussion that has gone on in this thread, in contrast to others in recent memory.

Also, isn't it awfully Bay12 of us to hijack some poor fellow's thread? To take his simple question and turn it into some far-reaching debate about the Future of Dwarf Fortress As We Know It?

We do have a long tradition of searching up ancient dead threads and using them to host a community fortress
