df-light-1.0

df-light-1.0 is an extreme cut down version of vanilla dwarf fortress that's playable.
It can act as a petri dish for other mods in development.

Longtime lurker, first contribution! hope its useful, I'm planning to use it more but haven't made anything else I want to post yet.

I think there are a few things to add back but I'm not sure what industries/supply chains got crippled in the removals
Paper and fiber threads so probably pigtails need to be added back.

2021-10-29-1525 - created df-light-1.0
with only these creatures:

('creature_standard.txt')
dwarves
elves
humans
goblins
kobolds

('creature_domestic.txt')
donkeys
sheep
chickens

('creature_insects.txt')
bees

and only these plants:

('plant_standard.txt') :pint:
strawberries, modified BIOME:ANY_LAND(above ground crop)
plump helmets(below ground crop)
apple tree, modified BIOME:ANY_LAND(above ground tree)
fungiwood tree(below ground tree)

OPTION 1

delete df_47_05_win\raw and replace with folder df-light-v1.0\raw

OPTION 2

delete ALL creature and plant files in the df_47_05_win\raw\object folder

and copy all files from df-light-1.0\modified files\ to your install folder df_47_05_win\raw\objects

*if you deleted ALL plant and creature files then copying the modified files to folder df_47_05_win\raw\objects will require no overwrite*

OPTION 3

delete these specific files in the df_47_05_win\raw\object folder

How about fish? Ideally there should be something for both fishing and shell industry - pond turtles, mussels, oysters, or nautiluses.

I see no grasses, which means your donkeys and sheep are going to starve to death.  Lack of shells and plant/silk cloth will also likely mean problems with strange moods.

On the against simplification without going over stuff people have already said.

Keep up the good work, im intrigued, we must go deeper.

This makes me curious, how many tokens can be removed from the Dwarf Fortress raws while leaving it still playable in both fortress and adventure mode?

That depends on your definition of ”playable”. Is it ”includes most core features” like this mod, or ”does not crash the game on startup”, or somewhere in between?
