I'm caught up. It appears Same was mid turn but hasn't posted an update in two months. I am going to embody the last remaining creepy carver (assuming they survive) and give the word fishing a new meaning... although this thread has been dead for over two weeks. I'm going to play out my turn and then (hopefully) remember to PM some people who posted here to help revive the project. The flyers are a bad problem that I am going to ignore for probably far too long but I'll TRY to have something to help with that by the time my year ends.

The game crashes when I unpause or even try to advance time by a single step. If I abandon the fort and try to reclaim it still crashes. If I use dfhack to embark anywhere on the site it crashes, looks like I won't be able to enact my plan.

The plan was make a pumpstack from green glass parts and orthoclase blocks in the tube but with no walling around it to save time. It would be powered from above and then a series of pumps would deliver the magma quickly to the eastern part of the panic room dining room onto a walled in set of bridges which would cast obsidian on the ocean surface which would collapse to the seafloor around a corpse at the bottom of the ocean without destroying the corpse.  Once the corpse is walled in all the way to the surface I would drain the water into the caverns through a fortification and then retrieve the corpse to take its rightful place on a pedestal inside of a newly created bonecarver guildhall. Then I would use obsidian to "fish" out as many drowned dwarves as possible.

Also, an archery range that uses the bronze colossus as a living target practice dummy with a method to recapture it. I would make sure the squad that trains on it only uses bone/wood bolts so as to not damage it.

I would love to see this thread endure.
Maybe you picked a wrong DF version ?

Can confirm that, not only does the latest turn crash instantly on unpause for me, too, in a completely fresh perfectly normal 47.05 - the last turn that doesn't was StrikaAmaru's. (We can infer that this is BluarianKnight's fault, somehow :P ) What init settings were you using? It's also worth mentioning that I'm on Linux.

Unless we can fix the Linu issue, I believe "wherever is last" means "you can play right now" !

Perhaps we're better off founding Fishheads II on account of the borked save.

Derailing for fishheads 2, but I just generated a potentially very fun world for this. Dwarves and elves are extinct by 250 but we can choose an earlier worldgen end year so that there's trading and migrants. Two evil oceans. One has blood rain and borders a reanimating desert, another just has evil weather and borders a good marsh.

Sounds like that might be a winner.

I'd like to see how the the good swamp/evil weather map goes !
Could be Fun to play with syndromes while building our piers.

The reanimating biomes tend to become too FPS unfriendly after some time, and the blood rain is just a glorified regular rain IMO.

just to return here, my apologies for the ghosting but I had run into some rather distracting IRL stuff around this moment and by the time my life returned to normal, I had forgotten about this thread... alas. I DID however find my first turn log entry, as far as I got before, well, I was distracted, so here it is:

---

Diary of Salmeuk

Today, I fell and drowned in the ocean.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

---

I am not interested in continuing my turn, as I sort of lost the thread on what to write about.. and this seems as deserved an ending as I could have received. I did not engineer this death; no, I had absent-mindedly requested a dwarf deconstruct some of the Cthulu temple as built by Spriggans, you know, the creeping green ghoulishness. . well that hunk of stone fell right through the floor below, which Salmeuk the dwarf just so happened to be standing on. This was surely some kind of revenge-of-the-gods, and Spriggans channeled something much darker than any of us had imagined in constructing that monstrosity!
